Mexico wins CONCACAF Gold Cup group after 0-0 draw against Costa Rica

Washington Post7 hours ago

LAS VEGAS — Mexico tied Costa Rica 0-0 on Sunday night to win Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and will play Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals.
Mexico's Santiago Giménez appeared to score on a bicycle kick in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time but the goal was disallowed by Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar following a video review. Giménez appeared to be offside when Carlos Rodríguez lofted the ball into the penalty area following a free kick. Orlando Galo's headed clearance attempt went in front of the goal to Giménez.

The Nerazzurri had already wrapped up a deal for the Croatian international in February. However, he stayed at Dinamo Zagreb until the end of the season just gone. Hakan Calhanoglu is still out with an injury. However, reports the Gazzetta, that is not certain. One of Nicolo Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan could drop into the base of midfield. Then, Petar Sucic could certainly get the start in midfield.

FIFA investigating racist insults against Real Madrid star at Club World Cup

FIFA have opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse aimed in the direction of Real Madrid star Antonio Rüdiger. This comes owing to developments in the Club World Cup meeting between Los Blancos and Mexican outfit Pachuca. Advertisement Real Madrid kicked their campaign at the CWC back into gear on Sunday night, in a group stage meeting with Pachuca. When all was said and done, Xabi Alonso's troops emerged on the right side of a 3-1 result, despite an early red card on the part of Raúl Asencio. The aforementioned Antonio Rüdiger, meanwhile, marked his return to the pitch late in the clash, following a two-month spell on the sidelines. And unfortunately for the German, he was soon at the heart of an ugly incident. After his defensive stalwart was spotted looking nothing short of furious with Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral at the Bank of America Stadium, Xabi Alonso confirmed post-match that Rüdiger claims to have been the subject of racially-motivated insults: Advertisement 'Racist insult against Rudiger? That's what Rudiger said, and we believe him. Now FIFA is investigating. It's unacceptable.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Al Hilal hand AC Milan's Théo Hernández ultimatum

Al-Hilal are confident of securing the signing of AC Milan defender Théo Hernández (27), according to a report from Fabrizio Romano. However, with the player yet to give the green light to the move, an ultimatum has been handed by the Saudi Arabian club. Romano reports that there were positive contacts between Hernández and Al Hilal in recent hours, with the Saudi Pro League side now optimistic of concluding a deal for the AC Milan player. They want to get the deal done soon in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises or the entry of a competitor for the Frenchman's signature. Advertisement As a result, they are now looking to force Hernández's hand by providing the player with an ultimatum. As per a report from Sacha Tavolieri, the Frenchman has been given three days to sign a deal by Al-Hilal. If that deadline is not respected, the Saudi side will move on to other targets.
