OPEN// PM: Egypt's economy shows resilience amid regional challenges
CAIRO, June 15 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Sunday said that despite geopolitical and economic challenges in the region and globally, the Egyptian economy has proven its ability to withstand and adapt.
Madbouli was addressing the "Development Finance to Foster Private Sector-Led Growth & Jobs" conference, organized by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation in the New Administrative Capital.
The event was attended by a galaxy of ministers, ambassadors, and representatives from development partners, the European Union in Egypt, international institutions, and private sector companies.
The premier highlighted Egypt's recent economic achievements, including the growth of the GDP by 4.3% in Q2 of the current fiscal year, the increase in the flow of foreign direct investments as well as the rise in non-oil exports by 33% in the first nine months of the fiscal year.
The unemployment rate has fallen to 6.3%, while the fiscal deficit declined to 6.5%, Madbouli said, adding that the public debt is expected to decrease to 85–87% of the GDP.
The private sector is the primary engine of economic growth, generating over 80% of job opportunities and contributing around 70% of GDP, Madbouli said.
He highlighted government's efforts to create a favorable environment for private investment through upgrading the infrastructure, injecting massive public investment in roads, railways, ports, energy, and airports along with launching the State Ownership Policy Document to create a more transparent and competitive market.
In order to regulate public expenditure, the government has capped public investments to focus on projects over 70% complete and enacted the 2024 Competition Protection Law to curb monopolies and enhance fair business practices, the premier said.
The government has also introduced the Golden License to fast-track project approvals, restructured the tax system, updated legislation, and streamlined non-tax financial burdens, Madbouli said.
Madbouli emphasized that structural reforms, which were designed in partnership with international financial institutions, were critical to achieving Egypt's economic progress, enhancing macroeconomic stability and promoting green transition.
He added that development finance for the private sector has reached $4.2 billion in 2024, surpassing public sector development finance for the first time, with a total of $15.6 billion mobilized since 2020. (MENA)

China evacuates 119 citizens from Israel to Egypt - Foreign Affairs
China evacuated 119 Chinese citizens from Israel to Egypt on Thursday via the Taba border crossing in Egypt's South Sinai governorate, Chinese News agency Xinhua reported. According to Xinhua, the evacuees entered Egypt from the crossing around 15:30 local time (12:30 GMT) and were then guided onto buses after completing the necessary procedures. The group included 117 students and two Hong Kong residents, who will be transferred to Cairo, the embassy said. "China is highly concerned about our compatriots overseas. "We completed all preparatory work efficiently within 24 hours and dispatched an action group to Taba overnight to organize the process of entry," Liao said. He added that the embassy worked closely with the Egyptian government overnight to request passage permits, necessary assistance, and security guarantees. Sun Xue, a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, said that the journey from Jerusalem to the Taba border crossing took about four hours. He noted that during the entry process at the crossing, staff and volunteers from the Chinese embassy in Egypt provided assistance and coordination. 'We are truly grateful to them," Sun said. China is the latest country to use the Taba border as a safe exodus path for its citizens from Israel, after Poland, France, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, following the Iranian retaliation on Israeli attacks. OPEN// Egypt FM in talks with his UK counterpart over ending Israel-Iran military escalation
CAIRO, June 20 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated on Friday Egypt's call for ending the current escalation and resuming negotiations to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear program. The top diplomat gave the remarks during a phone call with his British counterpart David Lammy that comes as part of intensive contacts over the current military escalation between Israel and Iran. The two ministers exchanged views on the escalating situation, with Abdelatty underlining the need to maintain European efforts and international coordination to contain the crisis and prevent the conflict from expanding. The ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and work hand in hand to de-escalate the situation and make the best use of available diplomatic channels to achieve calm in the region. OPEN// PM: Awqaf Ministry's new digital platform seeks to renew foundations of religious discourse
CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) - The Awqaf Ministry's new digital platform, a purely national project, aims to contribute to renewing the foundations and pillars of religious discourse in a modern interactive manner that keeps pace with contemporary digital technologies, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said. The project is part of the state's digital transformation strategy, Madbouli added during a news briefing held in the presence of the Awqaf minister, who announced the official launch of the new platform, following the Cabinet weekly meeting on Wednesday. The premier described the new digital platform as a significant shift in improving the ministry's performance and enhancing its services, highlighting the diversity of topics and richness of services on the ministry's platform, which would contribute to advancing human building efforts in the new republic at the intellectual and spiritual levels. Meanwhile, Awqaf Minister Osama el Azhari said the launch of the digital platform coincides with the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, observed annually on June 18. The platform is based on the ministry's four-part strategy, which focuses on confronting religious and irreligious extremism and contributing to character building and civilizational revival, the minister pointed out. The new platform features three main phases, the first of which was launched today, with an unlimited room for scale-up. The world's largest religious platform is meant to achieve all its milestones up to sustainability by mid-2027, the minister said. The first phase includes 60,000 pages, making it the biggest religious platform in the world. By the end of all milestones, the platform is meant to hit a staggering count of several million pages. The platform approaches religious issues from various angles, including legal, linguistic, philosophical, sociological, medical, historical, and other perspectives. It adopts a moderate line of thought that seeks to promote the true, great values of Islam. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and chatbot features are to be expected as part of the operational and interactive functions of phase three of the platform. The platform also includes a special section for an initiative dubbed "Correct Your Concepts," a strategic scientific project for reshaping consciousness, reviving right concepts, and dispelling misconceptions, to build a free, believing, rational human being who can contribute to civilization-building, the minister said.
