Celtic open against St Mirren as fixtures revealed
Champions Celtic begin the defence of their Scottish Premiership crown at home to St Mirren on Sunday 3 August.Kilmarnock against newly promoted Livingston is the only 15:00 BST kick-off on Saturday 2 August, with Rangers visiting Motherwell in the early evening.Falkirk, back in the top flight after an absence of 15 years, host Dundee United on the Sunday, while Dundee are up against Hibernian.Heart of Midlothian welcome Aberdeen to Tynecastle on Monday 4 August.Celtic finished 17 points clear of nearest challengers Rangers last season and have won 13 of the past 14 titles.Celtic visit Aberdeen (12:30) in the second round of fixtures, with Rangers at home to Dundee (17:45).The first Old Firm derby of the season is at Ibrox on Sunday 31 August on match weekend four, with a noon start.Dundee and Dundee United go head-to-head at Dens Park on 30 August, while Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Hibs are scheduled to meet at Tynecastle on the weekend of 4 October.The division splits in two after 33 games, with the final run of five matches due to begin on 25 April and end on 17 May.For the second year running there is no winter break given the increased demands of the European schedule.

Middlesbrough allocation for Rangers pre-season friendly revealed
The English Championship club will travel to Glasgow on Saturday, July 26. Rangers will first face Club Brugge. Middlesbrough's visit to Ibrox will come in between the two-legged Champions League second qualifying round tie against Panathinaikos. Now, it has been confirmed that Middlesbrough will receive 8,023 tickets for the friendly contest. A club update read: "Ticket information for Boro's trip to Rangers in pre-season. "Tickets are on general sale from 10am, Wednesday 18 June. "All tickets for this fixture will be print at home, and no physical tickets will be issued. "Full Allocation: 8,023 tickets". From dancing to dodging tackles - McGhie's journey to World Cup
Transferable skills often go a long way in sport and Francesca McGhie certainly sees the benefit of years ago, her main pursuit was as a dancer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, but it was a path which didn't enthuse her mum saw a social media advert for a girls rugby team in Prestonpans, and the rest is 21-year-old Scotland winger is now using her fleetness of foot to dodge incoming tackles and bolt to the line."I was excited to try something new, and just fell in love with it," said McGhie. "Fourteen-year-old me would be very proud."McGhie was first called up to represent the senior Scotland squad in 2023 and made her debut against England, where she now plies her trade with Leicester Tigers in the country where she will take part in her maiden Rugby World still eight weeks away, but if the recent training camp is anything to go by, those couple of months will pass in a flash."I think it's going to fly in," said McGhie."These last three weeks have gone super fast. We've enjoyed every second of it and all of us are just super excited to get stuck into this World Cup."Awaiting in Scotland's pool are Canada, Wales and Fiji - ranked second, 10th and 16th in the world respectively, compared to Scotland's seventh."We have a very competitive pool," said McGhie, who has amassed 24 caps already."Each team brings something different and we'll have to adapt to that. "It'll be exciting to play Canada, I've never played them before. Wales is a competitor we play every year and they're always an exciting for us, and Fiji are totally different from both of them."The target for Scotland will be to finish in top two of that pool to earn a quarter-final despite the showpiece tournament not being in a more far-flung location, McGhie is convinced it'll be a tremendous sporting and life experience."It would be great to travel elsewhere but when you're in it you'll feel like you're floating around somewhere in the rugby bubble," she said.

Derek McInnes has insisted that Hearts remain in the fight to keep Lawrence Shankland but admits a decision will need to be made soon on whether he stays or goes. McInnes has made retaining the Scotland striker one of his top priorities since being appointed the new Hearts head coach last month following a three-and-a-half year spell in charge of Kilmarnock. The 29-year-old is considering his options with reported interest from West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia. McInnes feels, however, that penning a contract extension to remain with Hearts would be in the striker's best interests.
