Scottie Scheffler has awkward trophy mishap during PGA Championship celebration: ‘We'll fix it'
Scottie Scheffler's excitement over capturing the PGA Championship title quite literally blew the top off the Wanamaker Trophy.
Scheffler was celebrating his third major title when he lifted the vaunted trophy and the lid went flying off, sending several of the PGA of America execs standing behind him running to try and catch the top before it hit the ground.
It was placed on a stand that the trophy had been sitting on and Scheffler put it back together while having a laugh about it.

'Jim, I guess he can't be great at everything,' CBS Sports' Amanda Balionis said on the broadcast as she was wrapping up her interview with Scheffler.
'That happens,' Jim Nantz said in response with a chuckle.

CBS Sports later posted another video showing Scheffler noticing that the top of the trophy appeared to be a little lopside and started trying to fix it, which included him trying to bang the top on the ground in order to try and fix it.
'We'll fix it,' one of the PGA of America execs tells him in the video.

The victory on Sunday in Charlotte was well earned by the World No. 1 after he held off a charging Jon Rahm, who had tied for the lead with birdies on holes 8, 10 and 11 to get to 9-under, while Scheffler dropped down to 9-under.
Scheffler finished with a score of 71 for the final round and 11-under for the tournament.
'I knew it was going to be a challenging day. Finishing off a major championship is always difficult,' Schffler told CBS. 'I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine and I didn't have my best stuff, but I kept myself in it, and I stepped up on the back nine. I had a really good nine holes and that's about it.'

With a 9-under score for the tournament, the 34-year-old Englishman is tied for first place with Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas. After shooting even par through his first nine holes, Fleetwood caught fire to close out his second round. He started his ascent up the leaderboard with an eagle on the par-5 13th hole, then another eagle with a hole-out on the par-4 15th. A birdie on the 16th put him in a three-way tie with Scheffler and Thomas at the top of the leaderboard. No other player in the Travelers Championship field carded two eagles through the first 36 holes at TPC River Highlands. Fleetwood accomplished that feat in just a three-hole span. "Tommy Fleetwood (-9/T1) is the only player with multiple eagles through 36 holes at the Travelers Championship (Nos. 13 & 15/R2)," the tour's official account wrote on X. Fleetwood has three top-five finishes on the PGA Tour this season: T5 at The Genesis Invitational, T4 at the Truist Championship and T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He missed the cut after shooting 9-over through his first two rounds at the U.S. Open last week. Fleetwood will tee off in the penultimate pairing of the signature event alongside Jason Day, who sits in solo 4th at 8-under. Scheffler and Thomas will take the course as the final pairing on Saturday. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and has stayed with them since. Advertisement Last season with the Browns, Garrett totaled 40 tackles and seven assists, 34 solo tackles, and 14 sacks. Prisco wrote in regards to Garrett's No. 2 spot heading into the 2025 season: "Garrett had 14 sacks to finish second in the league, but his impact was much more obvious than that number. He is an elite game-wrecker as he turns 30 this year." The defensive end is nothing but consistent. Prisco ranked him the exact same behind Kansas City Chief's quarterback Patrick Mahomes last season as well. Also in his second season, he was a finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award, semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, and quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. He led the Aggies as a freshman in quarterback sacks, tackles for loss, and quarterback hurries. In his NCAA career, he tallied 84 solo tackles, 61 assists, 48.5 tackles for loss, and 32.5 sacks. Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Mike Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Mike Evans (2011-2013 at Texas A&M): No. 82 Wide receiver Mike Evans was a first rounder in the 2014 NFL Draft, picked seventh by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also has stayed with the Buccaneers since being drafted. Advertisement In the 2024 season, Evans had 74 receptions for 1,004 yards, averaging 13.6 yards per game. He also had 11 touchdowns for the Buccaneers. Prisco reasoned Evans' No. 82 spot, writing: "Playing in 14 games, Evans once again went over 1,000 yards, the 11th straight season doing so. He had 74 catches with 11 touchdowns and continued to show off his big-play ability." The former Aggie is slowly climbing up the list. Last season, the wide receiver was listed at No. 88. After being redshirted in 2011, Evans played two seasons with the Aggies before entering the draft. In his final year at Texas A&M, he was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, and semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. He also led the Aggies in receptions and receiving yards as a sophomore with 65 catches for 1,322 ands 12 touchdowns. In total, he tallied 2,499 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns over 151 receptions, including a 95-yard NCAA career-long gain.
