Yograj Singh points out two key aspects that Test captain Shubman Gill needs to follow

Mohali (Punjab) [India], June 20 (ANI): Former cricketer Yograj Singh believes India's newly crowned Test captain Shubman Gill needs to lead from the front and has to take the team forward along with him, just like Kapil Dev did in the 1983 World Cup, in his first assignment against England, which begins on Friday at Headingley.
India is poised to witness a new era in the Test format without its batting mainstays, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format last month. India has infused young blood and a new skill set to fill the gap left by the departure of the two seasoned pros.
Apart from the batting bigwigs, India will miss off-spinner Ravichandran Aswhin and the plethora of variations he brought. Ashwin had his last dance in Australia and announced his retirement midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
With Gill given the responsibility of steering the team in India's new era of Test cricket, Yograj outlined the key aspects India's youngest red-ball captain must consider to soar to new heights.
According to Yograj, Gill must set his individual scoring target high and take the team with him. He also dropped the series prediction and believes India has the potential to conquer England and stand victorious on the opposition's territory for the first time since 2007.
'A few days ago, I was talking to Yuvraj Singh about Abhishek (Sharma) and Shubman Gill. Yuvraj said he would have to lead from the front. As Shubman Gill goes out to bat, he has to stay at the crease for the maximum time. When a captain leads from the front, and scores run. It is important for Shubman to set a target of 100, 200 or 300. He has to lead from the front. He also has to take everyone forward together, just like Kapil Dev did in the 1983 World Cup. I believe India will win the series,' Yograj told ANI.
For Gill, the coin didn't spin in his favour during his first outing as India Test captain during the time of the toss. England captain Ben Stokes won and opted to bowl, a general trend at Headingley.

'Amazing camaraderie': Jaiswal praises skipper Shubman Gill after memorable opening day in Leeds

Leeds [UK] June 21 (ANI): India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his admiration for newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill following their crucial 129-run partnership on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. Jaiswal, who smashed a fluent 101 off 159 balls, lauded Gill's calmness and composure at the crease, describing their time together in the middle as "amazing." Speaking at the post-day press conference, the 23-year-old left-hander said, "We have spoken a lot in the middle and we were just trying to make sure that we play session by session and try as many (runs) as we can get. Especially when there is a loose ball, we try to make sure that we put it in the right places." Jaiswal and Gill laid a solid foundation for India after being put into bat, with their partnership steering the visitors past the 200-run mark. While Jaiswal fell shortly after Tea, Gill remained unbeaten on 127 at stumps, showcasing excellent temperament in his captaincy debut. Praising the partnership and the leadership on display, Jaiswal added, "We really enjoyed together. There was amazing camaraderie between us. So, it was amazing to bat with him and he batted really well. The way he has been very calm and composed... I loved batting with him and enjoying under him as well." New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships was launched here on Friday along with the launch of the '100 Days to Go' countdown. The event was hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). A PCI release said that the newly-revealed mascot named Viraaj is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India's rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA and Chief Patron of PCI, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood were among those present. The Chief Minister said that the national capital is honoured to host a global event that celebrates courage, ability, and human potential. 'The logo and mascot beautifully reflect the soul of India and the power of para sport. We will ensure that New Delhi 2025 becomes a landmark for inclusivity and excellence,' she said.
