Maria climbs 43 places in WTA rankings after Queen's win
The 37-year-old mother of two, who had to come through two rounds of qualifying before reaching the main draw at Queen's, became the oldest winner of a WTA 500 event when she beat American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday's final.
Maria, who was the first female Queen's champion since Olga Morozova 52 years ago, climbed one place short of her career high-ranking of 42, which she attained last year.
The top three remained unchanged with Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. Zheng Qinwen climbed one place to fourth, her highest ranking after reaching the semi-finals at Queen's.
Jasmine Paolini dropped one place to fifth while Iga Swiatek who has yet to set foot on grass after an unsuccessful season on clay, slipped one place to eighth.

It's going to be a great match and I'm really looking forward to facing him." In the other quarter-finals, Alexander Bublik, who claimed defending champion and world number one Jannik Sinner's scalp on Wednesday, plays Tomas Machac with Tomas Martin Etcheverry up against Karen Khachanov.

Bangladesh's lead over Sri Lanka nears 200 in first Test
The visitors finished at 177-3 after a strong partnership of 68 between opener Shadman Islam and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. All-rounder Milan Rathnayake dismissed Shadman for 76 but veteran campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim, fresh off a first-innings century, joined his captain to steady the innings. The duo built an unbroken 49-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put their side in the driver's seat heading into the final day. Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan earlier took five wickets to halt Sri Lanka's first-innings charge, with the visitors dismissed for 485 after lunch to trail by 10 runs. Nayeem was well supported by Hasan Mahmud, who finished with 3-74. Sri Lanka looked set for a useful lead after the first session, reaching 465-6 with Kamindu Mendis and Rathnayake stitching together a gritty 84-run stand for the seventh wicket. Dutch footballer Promes extradited over cocaine smuggling case
A Dutch court sentenced the former winger in February 2024 to six years behind bars, finding him guilty of helping to smuggle 1,363 kilogrammes (3,000 pounds) of cocaine from Brazil in 2020. In a separate case, the 33-year-old had already been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay compensation for stabbing his cousin over a stolen necklace. An appeal is ongoing in both cases. A spokeswoman for prosecutors confirmed to AFP local media reports that Promes was on his way to the Netherlands after the extradition. Promes was arrested in Dubai in March 2024 but Dutch prosecutors said that was for a local offence unrelated to the cases in the Netherlands. He won 50 caps for the Netherlands, scoring seven goals, and was part of the side that lost to the Czech Republic in the last 16 of the Euro 2020 championships, which was played in 2021 due to Covid. He has not worn the orange jersey since. In 2019, Promes joined Dutch giants Ajax in Amsterdam, after a 15-million-euro ($17.2 million) transfer from Spanish La Liga outfit Sevilla. In 2021, he left the Dutch capital for Moscow and has played for Spartak ever since, following a previous stint from 2014-2018, during which he was named Russia's footballer of the year.
