Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala outlasted Varvara Gracheva of France, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the first round of the Nottingham Open qualifiers on Saturday in England.
The tournament against the world no. 110 Gracheva came a day after Eala made a quarterfinals exit in the Ilkley Open.
World no. 77 Eala will face Romania's Anca Todoni, ranked no. 87, in the second round as she hopes to enter the main draw.

Alas Pilipinas Men fall to Thailand in straight sets
The Alas Pilipinas Men fell to Thailand in straight sets, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, on early Saturday (Philippine time) in the classification round of the AVC Nations Cup in Manama, Bahrain. The Philippines inched closer in the third set, 13-11, after a Louie Ramirez attack, but the Thais pulled away to lead 19-13. A service error and Buds Buddin attack, with Amornthep Khonhan's attack in between, put the Philippines closer, 20-15, but Thailand eventually cruised to the victory. No Philippine player scored in double digits as Buddin had a team-high eight points, while Ramirez and Peng Taguibolos had six points apiece. Amornthep Khonhan, meanwhile, led Thailand with 14 points, while Anurak Phanram and Chaiwat Thungkham had 12 points each. No Bolden, Guillou in Filipinas roster for AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers
World Cup players Sarina Bolden and Katrina Guillou's names were not listed in the roster released by the Philippine Women's National Football Team Filipinas for the upcoming AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers which will be held from June 23 to July 5. Among the players included are Sara Eggesvik, Kaya Hawkinson, Charisa Lemoran, Isabella Pasion, Alexa Pino, Quinley Quezada, Jaclyn Sawicki, and Ava Villapando for midfielders. Forwards include Carleigh Frilles, Nina Mathelus, Chandler Mcdaniel, Meryll Serrano, Dionesa Tolentin, and Chayse Ying, while Angela Beard, Malea Cesar, Rhea Chan, Jessika Cowart, Janae Defazio, Hali Long, Katana Norman, and Sofia Wunsoh compose the defenders' pool. Gabrielle Baker, Olivia Mcdaniel, Nina Meollo, and Inna Palacios are the goalkeepers for the upcoming tournament. The Philippines is pooled with Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Cambodia which will host all Group G events. The team which will end up on top of the Group G standings will advance to the AFC Women's Asian Cup. NBA: Grizzlies' Zach Edey cited for driving 101 mph in 55 zone — report

The violation occurred on May 1 while Edey was driving a Kia Sorento on Indiana 25, according to the report. Edey was cited and released at the scene, with a court hearing scheduled for Monday on a charge of misdemeanor reckless driving. Edey, 23, averaged 9.2 points with 8.3 rebounds in 66 games (55 starts) this past season when he was named NBA All-Rookie First Team. The 7-foot-4, 305 pounder was the No. 9 overall selection in last year's draft, after he was a two-time national college player of the year and a two-time first-team All-American. —Field Level Media/Reuters
