NFL sideline reporter Laura Okmin announces shock exit from Fox
NFL sideline reporter Laura Okmin has announced she is leaving Fox.
Okmin has become one of the most recognizable faces on the sidelines of NFL games after two decades with the network.
She told Front Office Sports on Wednesday that she wasn't forced out by Fox, but rather rejected their offer of a new contract.
Okmin said: 'They sent me the contract. I printed it out. I sat there. It was just my voice saying, "It's time, this is it".
'I'm happy to say [my boss] was very surprised. I would have been very disappointed if there was any other reaction.'
Okmin spent last season working in a team alongside play-by-play commentator Kevin Kugler and analyst Daryl Johnston.
She joined Fox in 2002 and, over her 23 years in the NFL, became the third-longest tenured sideline reporter in league history.
Away from her NFL duties Okmin launched GALvanize, a mentorship space for women in sports media.
After working on the sidelines for such a long time, she now wants to switch her focus to her new passion of guiding the next generation of female reporters.
'Honestly, it's a tough job having to justify your job for 20 years. Having to fight for your job and having to justify it,' she added.
'It feels like there's a bit of dog years with that job.'

Pirates RHP Dennis Santana suspended 4 games over fan interaction
June 20 - Major League Baseball gave Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dennis Santana a four-game suspension on Friday for "his aggressive conduct toward a fan" that saw him take a swing at someone heckling him from behind the bullpen. Santana's suspension was set to begin Friday, but the pitcher has elected to appeal the discipline. Santana's run-in with the fan took place during the second game of a doubleheader at the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. A Tigers spokesperson confirmed to news outlets that the fan was ejected from the park. Video of the incident posted to social media showed Santana leave his feet and take a swing at the fan who was standing over the railing. A Pirates coach ran in to guide Santana away from the stands. Speaking via an interpreter after the game, Santana explained that the fan "crossed the line too many times" but that it didn't justify his own actions. He declined to say what the fan did or said to him. "You guys know me and know my temper," Santana said. "I'm a calm person. They just crossed the line a few times. I would like to leave it like that." Santana later entered that game and faced one batter before a rain delay interrupted the game. Santana, 29, is in his first full season with Pittsburgh after the Pirates selected him off waivers from the New York Yankees in June 2024. Angels manager Ron Washington (health) out indefinitely
June 20 - Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington will not manage the team for an indefinite period due to a health concern, general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Friday. The nature of Washington's health ailment is undisclosed. Bench coach Ray Montgomery will serve as interim manager, beginning with Friday night's home game against the Houston Astros. Montgomery, 55, is in his fourth season on the Angels' coaching staff. Washington, 73, is expected to watch Friday night's game from a suite inside Angel Stadium. Washington is in his second season with the Angels and has a 99-137 record with the team. Los Angeles is 36-38 this season. Overall, Washington holds a 763-748 record in 10 seasons. He guided Texas (2007-14) to the World Series in 2010 and 2011 with the Rangers losing each time. The Angels also placed right fielder Jorge Soler (back) on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday. The 33-year-old is batting .207 with eight homers and 26 RBIs in 67 games this season and has 199 career homers in 12 seasons. Los Angeles recalled outfielder Gustavo Campero from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. He was batting .320 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 32 games with the Bees.
