"Tourism will be restored there in coming 15-20 days": Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], June 21 (ANI): Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday said that tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is gradually reviving, and expressed confidence that full restoration of tourist activities will happen within the next 15-20 days.
Speaking to the mediapersons, the minister said, '...After continuous efforts of the Government of India and the state government, tourism activities have started again in Jammu and Kashmir...'
He added that the Centre had also initiated plans to link the archaeological grandeur of Kashmir with tourism, as part of its broader strategy to boost cultural and heritage-based travel in the area.
'...Along with all this, there was a program to connect the archaeological splendour of Kashmir with tourism... I am confident that tourism will be restored there in the coming 15-20 days...' the minister told.
On Thursday, Shekhawat visited the Sun Temple in Anantnag. The Union Minister said that the way tourism has recovered in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 1.5 months, the administration will be able to achieve pre-Pahalgam status by December.

The tourist flow has reportedly gone down after a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.
Meanwhile, on June 16, foreign tourists from various countries, primarily Europe, began returning to Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) following the recent incident in Pahalgam. Many have described the region as safe and welcoming, sharing positive experiences and encouraging others to visit.
On June 14, in a step towards reviving adventure tourism and promoting Indigenous games among the youth, the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education (DOSPE), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Army, organised a ten-day Sports Camp at the Bhadarwah Campus in Doda district.
The Pahalgam terror attack has severely impacted the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir, and the government is making strong efforts to restore confidence and revive travel to the region.
A total of 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed in a dastardly terrorist attack in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam valley in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. (ANI)

"Congress has only given khatakhat jhoot and loot model," BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla slams Karnataka govt over alleged housing scam
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Saturday, saying that while leading the Karnataka government the party has only given the state a 'khatakhat jhoot and loot model,' alleging that the state government is giving off houses meant to be for poor people through bribes. 'The Congress party has only given a khatakhat jhoot & loot model in Karnataka. First, they gave false guarantees, came to power, and now they are looting with both hands -- be it the MUDA Scam, Valmiki Scam, Liquor Scam, Rice Procurement Scam, or land scams of all kinds. Now there's a housing scam, where houses belonging to the poorest of the poor are being sold off for massive bribes,' Poonawalla told ANI in Delhi. Questioning the state government, the BJP leader asked whether a CBI or independent judicial probe would be carried out as the matter first became public knowledge through a Congress MLA. 'Now the question is -- will any action be taken against the said minister? Will there be a CBI or an independent judicial probe in this matter? Because the allegation hasn't come from the BJP or any activist -- it has been made by a Congress MLA,' he said. Poonawalla was referencing an alleged leaked audio of Congress MLA BR Patil, in which the party leader is purportedly heard accusing officials of taking bribes for allotting houses. Yesterday, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defended the decision by his government to increase reservation quota by 10-15 per cent in various housing schemes, saying that the decision was in line with the central government's guidelines based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's program for the welfare of minorities. He said the program directs all implementing agencies to earmark '15 per cent of physical and financial targets for minorities wherever possible.' Reacting to criticism that the state government's decision was 'unconstitutional or appeasement,' the Karnataka CM asked why the guidelines issued by the centre were being implemented under government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. 'This guideline is issued by the BJP-led Union Government and has been in force for years. If this was unconstitutional or appeasement, why did the Union Government ask all states to follow it? English No Longer Colonial Relic But A Global Tool For Progress: Tamil Nadu Minister
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his recent remarks on the English language, calling it a veiled attempt to deny access to knowledge and empowerment for the underprivileged. In a sharp response posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mr Poyyamozhi wrote, "English is no longer a colonial relic - it's a global tool of progress. Nations like China, Japan, Korea, Israel and Germany teach it not as some colonial hangover, but to lead in science, tech, and trade." Taking aim at the BJP and its ideological parent, the RSS, he added, "Here in India, Amit Shah and the RSS want to paint English as elitist - not because it harms our culture, but because it empowers the poor, Dalits, and backward communities to rise. Like Sanskrit once was, they now want English kept out of reach for the masses. This isn't about language - it's about control." The DMK leader asserted that Tamil Nadu believes in equal access, offering Tamil for identity and English for opportunity - a dual-language approach that he said lifts all children rather than leaving many behind. His statement came in the wake of controversial comments by Amit Shah at a book launch, where the Union Minister said, "In our lifetime, we will see a society in which those speaking English will feel ashamed, that day is not far". He further claimed that Indian culture and identity cannot be understood through "foreign languages". Mr Shah's comments have reignited the ongoing language row between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP at the Centre. The DMK has consistently opposed the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP), terming it a "backdoor attempt" to impose Hindi and marginalise non-Hindi speakers in the country's diverse linguistic landscape. While the BJP maintains that the policy only promotes learning additional Indian languages and strengthens the mother tongue, the DMK counters that in practice, only Hindi gets prioritised - particularly pointing to the Kendriya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu, where Tamil teachers are often not appointed 'citing' low enrolment, leading to growing fears of linguistic exclusion.
