Controversial Loch Lomond Flamingo Land plans recalled
In September 2024, the Yorkshire-based theme park operator, Flamingo Land Ltd, had their planning permission in principle rejected by all 14 board members of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Planning Authority.
Now, plans for the development at Lomond Banks have been recalled by Scottish Ministers reports our sister title The National.
Minister for Public Finance, Ivan McKee (below), said he has recalled the plans as the proposed development raises issues of 'national significance'.
He said: 'I have decided to recall the Lomond Banks appeal as the proposed development raises issues of national significance in view of its potential impact on Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
'This means that the appeal should be determined at a national level.'
The news comes after more than 50,000 people wrote to McKee in just two weeks, demanding that the Scottish Government withdraw its approval of the mega-resort planning application.
Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer said the public's opinion on the proposal, which is the most opposed in Scottish planning history with more than 155,000 individuals lodging objections, 'couldn't be clearer'.
He said: 'In just two weeks the Planning Minister has heard directly from over 50,000 people calling on him to block these proposals. Public opinion couldn't be clearer and it is backed up by experts including the Government's own environment watchdog.'
Organisations such as the National Trust for Scotland, the Woodland Trust, the Ramblers, and the Scottish Government environment watchdog, SEPA, also raised objections against the plans.

It is understood the fugitive, who used the call-sign 'Boston', has been fighting as a volunteer mercenary alongside Russian troops in the war with Ukraine. In April last year, footage from propaganda channels showed him signing a military contract. They have spun Puello-Mota's defection as a coup for the Moscow regime.

The lordship of the manor of Rotherham has gone up for sale - with the deeds to the title priced at £15, Manorial Services said it was "unusual" for the opportunity to buy the title of such a large last changed hands in 1988, and previous aristocratic holders of the manor include the Earls of Shrewsbury, the Dukes of Norfolk and the Earls of Effingham. Rotherham became known for its coal and steel industries, but the market town was founded in the Saxon the Norman Conquest, William the Conqueror awarded the manor to his half-brother, Robert, who became a major landowner. A pro-Palestine protester has meanwhile said it is 'absolutely horrendous' that the Government is preparing to ban Palestine Action. The Home Secretary is preparing to ban the group following its vandalism of two planes at an RAF base, it is understood. If enacted, this would make it a criminal offence to belong to or support Palestine Action. The decision comes after the group posted footage online showing two people inside the base at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. The clip shows one person riding an electric scooter up to an Airbus Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker and appearing to spray paint into its jet engine. Artist Hannah Woodhouse, 61, said: 'Most of us share that horror of actually being part of a genocide because our Government is not only arming the Israeli military, but we're also providing surveillance and training the military in this country.' The Government, since yesterday, have said they're also going to start to try to proscribe peace activists who are trying to take action against the genocide – so Palestine Action are now being targeted by our government, which is absolutely horrendous.' Speaking at the march for Palestine, Ms Woodhouse added: 'Counter-terrorism measures, it seems, are being used against non-violent peace protesters. The peace activists are trying to do the Government's job, which is to disarm Israel. The duty of any government right now is to disarm a genocidal state.' The march comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, as Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any US involvement in the conflict between Israel and Iran would be 'very, very dangerous'. US President Donald Trump reportedly approved plans to launch strikes on Iran earlier this week but held off in the hope Tehran would agree to scale back its nuclear programme. Blasts were heard in southwestern Iran on Saturday as the conflict entered its ninth day, with Israel claiming to have targeted 'military infrastructure'. In London, many demonstrators chanted 'Shame on you' as they passed a small counter-protest organised by the pro-Israel group Stop the Hate near Waterloo Bridge. Police have confirmed that a bottle was thrown at the Stop the Hate counter-protest, though it fell short and no one was injured. A suspect was chased down the Strand by officers and has been taken into custody.
