Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi felicitates BSF Jawan for his role in Operation Sindoor
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 17 (ANI): Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi felicitated Constable Harvinder Singh of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu, with a commendation disc for his exceptional diligence in preparation for Operation Sindoor.
The BSF Jammu posted a picture of COAS Dwivedi pinning the commendation disc to the BSF soldier.

General Upendra Dwivedi visited the forward locations at Baramulla on Friday and lauded the army and BSF jawans for their valour in Operation Sindoor.
During his visit, he also awarded the Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Disc to HC(GD) Rantana Ram,185 Bn BSF, for gallant action during Operation Sindoor.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief of Army Staff visited forward locations of the Dagger division in Jammu and Kashmir and interacted with all ranks.
While addressing the soldiers, he commended them for their valour and vigilant actions towards dominating the Line of Control (LoC) during Operation Sindoor.
The COAS also emphasised the need for the troops to remain ever prepared to respond to any challenge with decisive forces.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan.
After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

UP power employees to launch Jail Bharo Andolan against discom privatisation
A statewide mass movement and 'jail bharo andolan' will be launched in Uttar Pradesh the moment tenders are issued for the privatisation of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal power distribution companies (Discoms). Farmer leader Darshan Pal and Transparency International's Ramanath Jha, addressing the gathering virtually, also extended their full support. Several state employees' associations, engineers' groups, and teachers' unions declared solidarity with the agitation. The Mahapanchayat announced a nationwide protest on July 2, followed by a one-day symbolic strike on July 9, involving 27 lakh power sector employees. 'If tenders are floated, we will launch an indefinite work boycott and a Jail Bharo andolan in UP with full support from farmers and consumers,' said Sangharsh Samiti convenor Shailendra Dubey. Speakers at the event described the privatisation of power utilities as a threat to national security, citing the example of Operation Sindoor in Jammu & Kashmir, during which uninterrupted power supply was maintained despite drone attacks, thanks to government-managed electricity services. Alleging large-scale corruption behind the privatisation push, they demanded a CBI probe into alleged irregularities involving power sector transactions and officials. The gathering also pointed to failed privatisation efforts in Agra and other cities, claiming that Torrent Power alone defaulted on payments of ₹ 2,200 crore in Agra. Speakers warned that the extension of this 'failed model' to Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal would adversely affect poor and middle-class consumers across 42 districts. The Mahapanchayat resolved to continue the agitation until the privatisation proposal is withdrawn, warning that any attempt to suppress the movement would trigger widespread protests across the state.

Rajnath, Doval likely to visit China to attend SCO meeting
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval are likely to travel to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meetings. While Singh is likely to travel to Qingdao from June 25-27, Doval is likely to travel to the country from June 24-26, sources said. This will be their first meeting of Singh and Doval with their Chinese counterparts since the military hostilities between India and Pakistan in May this year following India's Operation Sindoor launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian Armed Forces intercepted and neutralised a range of high-tech foreign weapons used by Pakistan, including Chinese-origin PL-15 air-to-air missiles and Turkish Byker YIHA III Kamikaze drones. Both the Defence Minister and NSA level meetings will also witness participation from Pakistan as well. Pakistan's Defence Minister Khwaja Asif and the country's NSA and DG ISIS, Lt Gen Asim Malik are also expected to attend. China is the host of the SCO leaders' Summit in Tianjin, and these meetings are preparatory for the leaders' meeting to be hosted by President Xi Jinping. This comes in the context of repairing bilateral ties that nosedived after Chinese incursions in 2020 triggered a military standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. Doval had travelled to Beijing in December last year when India and China agreed on a set of 'six consensus' including resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, trans-border river cooperation and Nathula border trade. This was announced by the two sides following talks in Beijing between NSA Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who are also the Special Representatives (SRs). That was the first meeting of the SRs since frictions emerged in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas in 2020. The two sides have monitored the implementation of the disengagement agreement of October 2024, resulting in patrolling and grazing in the border areas. The meeting of the Special Representatives had taken place less than two months after a border patrolling arrangement was announced on October 21 which was followed by a meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia on October 23. Now, with Rajnath Singh's first visit and NSA Doval's second visit to China since the disengagement process was completed, the focus will be on the de-escalation and de-induction of troops from both sides, sources said. The two sides have taken some steps including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which has just started, and are also in talks about resumption of direct flights. India and China are also looking at easing visa curbs for Chinese nationals and sharing data on transnational rivers, like the Brahmaputra. Earlier this month, the Indian side had conveyed its support for China's Shanghai Cooperation Organisation presidency. The two sides have also agreed to jointly make preparations for the 24th Special Representatives' Meeting on China-India Boundary Question. Sources said that the Indian side is working towards engaging with the Chinese side, but with 'eyes wide open' as the border situation is still not normal. About 50,000 to 60,000 troops from the Indian and Chinese side are still deployed along the LAC. BJP MLA slams Cong for ‘pro-terror' stand
