Jersey Bulls promoted to eighth tier of English football with Play-Off win over Cobham

ITV News28-05-2025

Jersey Bulls have been promoted to the eighth tier of English football after a 2-1 victory over Cobham in front of a sell-out crowd at Springfield.
Miguel Carvalho and Fraser Barlow's goals were enough to win the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division South Play-Off Final despite a late rally from the Surrey side.
It comes after Bulls finished third in the league, missing out on automatic promotion, when they were docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.
And after beginning this season playing a league below Guernsey FC, they will start next campaign a league above them after the Sarnians were relegated this time round.

Inter Milan star tells PSG fan 'I'll beat the s*** out of you' after UCL jibe

Inter Milan were crushed 5-0 in the Champions League final by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, as Francesco Acerbi suffered one particularly embarrassing moment Francesco Acerbi threatened to 'beat the s***' out of a Paris Saint-Germain fan who goaded the Inter Milan star about the teams' Champions League final clash. Acerbi's Inter were hammered 5-0 by PSG in Munich on June 1 and now both teams are competing at the Club World Cup in the United States. During the closing stages of the one-sided final, 37-year-old Acerbi was embarrassed by PSG forward Bradley Barcola, whose fancy footwork left the Italian defender dazzled. The moment was widely shared on social media and one fan in Seattle took his torment a step further. ‌ During a meet-and-greet event, the fan - who was wearing a PSG shirt - reminded Acerbi of the humiliating moment. The ex-Lazio defender sought the help of a translator, who sternly told the fan in English: "You must be serious with him." ‌ Just a few seconds later, Acerbi made his feelings clear. Fuming in Italian, he said: "I'm serious. Don't make fun of me - I don't like it. I'm crazy, I'll beat the s*** out of you." Acerbi quickly moved on, posing for photos with more respecting fans. It's not the first time the veteran centre-back has been embroiled in controversy this month. Despite Italy playing two crucial World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, Acerbi turned down a call-up for his national team. He accused manager Luciano Spalletti, who's since been sacked, of disrespecting him. Acerbi posted on social media: "It's not a decision I have taken lightly. However, I believe that in light of recent events the conditions aren't there today for me to go forward with serenity. "I demand respect. If that respect is lacking from those who should lead the group, I prefer to step aside. I won't stay where I'm no longer truly wanted and it's clear I'm not part of the coach's project." ‌ Acerbi's focus shifted to helping Inter against Japanese side Urawa Reds in their second match of the Club World Cup on Saturday. He'll also be looking to impress new manager Cristian Chivu. Ex-Inter defender Chivu has taken over from Simone Inzaghi, who left San Siro for the riches of Saudi Arabian heavyweights Al-Hilal shortly after the Champions League final. Former team-mate Javier Zanetti, who's now the vice-president of Inter, commented: "The Champions League final marked the end of a chapter, and now a new one begins. "That's football - constant perseverance, belief in hard work and a project. And we're on that path now. We have great confidence in what Cristian Chivu can bring. I know him personally - we were team-mates - and I can say he's a wonderful person. We know he'll do a great job here. This Club World Cup is a great test for all of us." Lennon Miller transfer truth outs as Celtic and dizzying list of signing suitors hear it straight

Interest in the Fir Park star is growing at home and abroad with a big money exit expected this summer. Lennon Miller has his heart set on moving abroad and joining the increasing band of Scots tearing up the continent. Celtic and Rangers remain linked with the Motherwell star who is expected to make a big money move from Fir Park this summer. ‌ But the 18-year-old - who made his Scotland debut this month - wants to learn a new footballing style and culture. ‌ As well as the Old Firm, Miller has interest from England, Italy, Germany, Belgium and France. There's been no official offers tabled for the playmaker yet this summer. But new Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou admitted on Thursday he was planning for life without his star man. And Miller's dad Lee, the former Scotland striker, says he also expects the Well wonderkid to leave Fir Park in the next two months. Italians Udinese had two offers knocked back in January and could return to the table while Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Strasbourg, Union Saint Gilloise and a host of English clubs have been linked. Motherwell will demand a club record fee of over £5m for their prize asset. ‌ And asked if this was the time for the teenager, who is in the last year of his Well contract, to move on, Miller senior said: 'I think so, yeah. 'There's a lot of interest in Lennon. 'In terms of bids going in for him, there's nothing went in this summer. ‌ 'There were a few bids in January and the valuation of Lennon wasn't met, so it's one of those ones we'll just wait. 'Lennon's on holiday now, he's chilling out, just relaxing. He's ready for the season coming ahead but who knows where that'll be. 'His preferable choice would be abroad. ‌ 'He's not just going to go to a club for the sake of it. It needs to have the right environment, it needs to have the right manager, the right club. 'Lennon's not bothered with the money side of things, that'll come. Obviously it's a short career and you need to earn money. 'But he wants to go and progress his career and then kick on again. ‌ 'So we'll see. I don't know what that'll be. But it needs to be a place where he can then grow again.' Miller came through the Well academy from the age of eight and made his debut six days after his 16th birthday in August 2022. The midfielder has gone on to make 76 top tam appearances, captaining the side in last year's League Cup semi final against Rangers, and winning his first Scotland caps against Greece and Liechtenstein earlier this month. ‌ Rubbing shoulders with Serie A Scots Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Che Adams and Josh Doig whetted his appetite for a move abroad. Now his dad hopes his future can be sorted soon. ‌ He said: 'Yeah. A bit of uncertainty isn't great. Although, he just gets on with it, he just plays football, that's what he's there to do. . 'But the next move for Lennon is so important in terms of his development. 'His development is key in this. ‌ 'It needs to be the right move whether it's abroad, whether it's here. 'He needs to play football, he needs to develop because everything so far has went to plan. 'He's played a number of first team games, he's a recognised first team player now although he's only 18. ‌ 'The next step has to be playing games again in a different environment, in a different culture. 'Learning a different way of playing, a different style of playing and learning different processes within the game because Lennon over the years having followed me, has studied the game. 'He studied the game really, really intensely so that's why he is ahead of the game because he's been to games with me and he wasn't a kid that just had his iPad out with his phone. 'He watched every bit of every game. That's why he looks so mature and he is so mature for his age. 'He plays the game like a 35-year-old who's played 500 games first team so that's a credit to him.'

Russell Martin decides Rangers next three signings after Max Aarons loan transfer agreed

The signing of Aarons is set to bring the summer window to life for the Glasgow giants Rangers are set to confirm the arrival of Max Aarons as the first signing for the Russell Martin era at Ibrox. But a busy summer is far from over for the boss as he plans to strengthen the squad before the crucial Champions League qualifiers against Panathinaikos next month. ‌ Lyall Cameron has joined the Rangers squad having agreed a pre-contract move from Dundee when Philippe Clement was in the hot seat, while 25-year-old Aarons is expected to be unveiled on a temporary switch from Bournemouth in the coming day. ‌ And along with the new US owners at Rangers, Martin will have his eyes on silverware next season after watching Celtic and Aberdeen claim the domestic accolades last season. With the future of last season's top scorer Cyriel Dessers up in the air amid interest from AEK, a new striker appears to be at the top of the shopping list. Despite Turgeman stating he is "ready" for a move, it could be on to plan B for Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell. Westerlo frontman Matija Frigan is said to be on the shortlist of targets with Spotske Novoski reporting that the Belgian side have told suitors they must stump up a £6.4million fee to land the 22-year-old Croatian. Interest in Jamie Vardy has also been floated after his Leicester City departure - but Rangers are far from alone in chasing the veteran's signature with a whopping 10 clubs said to be in the picture. ‌ Martin will also want to see additions on the wing following the departure of Vaclav Cerny. The Czech international's agent insists there's no chance of the player making a return to Rangers after a successful loan spell from Wolfsburg last season. A £9million price tag has been placed on the wide man and agent David Nehoda said: "Vaclav will now be back at Wolfsburg in time for the start of their training. We are currently not in talks with Rangers about a possible further collaboration." ‌ Kwame Poku also looks to be inching closer to a move to Ibrox as the 23-year-old approaches the end of his Peterborough contract. Posh director of football Barry Fry has revealed he previously commanded a £5million and £5million in add-ons for the forward who is set to leave for a minimal fee. ‌ Should Poku move outside of England, a compensation fee under the lower rate FIFA guidelines would be due to the club due to cross-border rules with The Sun reporting a modest fee of £350k will be paid out the English League One side if an Ibrox switch is rubber stamped. An arrival at centre-back could help cover departures with Leon Balogun already leaving the club and Robin Propper expected to follow for FC Twente. Conor Coady is "a personal target for Martin and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell" - who worked with the 32-year-old at Wolves and Everton - according to the Rangers Review with the defender said to be "keen" amid interest from Wolves. ‌ Croatian centre-back Luka Jelenic is reportedly a target for Rangers just 12 months after a move to Osijek - and defender Almamy Toure has been floated after leaving FC Kaiserslautern but reports suggest he is keen on exploring his options in Germany before deciding his future. Speaking after the SPFL fixtures were announced, boss Martin confirmed he expected more new faces to link up with the current squad before the trip to Athens. He said: 'We'll have a few before the European game, that's for sure. Everyone is working extremely hard. "The bulk of the work has been about identifying character and talent we want in the building who can add to this group and add to us culturally and performance as well and I'm excited about the people we are starting to look at and hopefully will add.'
