Karen Read supporters use a hand gesture after her verdict: What does it mean?

Supporters of Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman charged in the high-profile death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, have adopted a distinctive and silent hand gesture to show their solidarity. Widely seen at rallies and outside the courthouse, the gesture has sparked curiosity, but its meaning is both simple and symbolic. Here's what it represents.

The gesture adopted by Karen Read's supporters is the American Sign Language sign for 'I love you'—a subtle but deeply meaningful expression of solidarity. Her attorneys specifically requested that the crowd, often dressed in pink to show their allegiance, use the silent gesture instead of vocal cheers or chants while entering and exiting the courthouse. The aim was to maintain decorum and avoid disrupting the legal proceedings, as reported by The New York Post.
When Read emerged from court with only a drunk driving conviction, her supporters responded with a wave of raised hands forming the 'I love you' sign. Read and her attorneys, visibly moved, returned the gesture, signaling mutual gratitude and reinforcing the close bond between her and the crowd that had stood by her throughout the case.

Karen Read's father, William Read, spoke about the overwhelming support his daughter received as her case evolved into a highly publicized New England crime drama. According to CBS, he said, 'All of these folks here, hundreds and hundreds of supporters. It's all about fighting back. It's about the corruption that has put us in this position.'
On Wednesday, Read was acquitted of the second-degree murder charge that had placed her at the center of a gripping and controversial case. Prosecutors had alleged that she struck her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and left him to die in a snowstorm outside a suburban house party in 2022.

Wait, what? Fearing wife's wrath after fight, man sneaks into stranger's home, takes bath & cooks food; gets arrested

A 44-year-old man from Florida was arrested after breaking into a stranger's home in Davenport to avoid going back to his angry wife. The man, identified as Joe, reportedly stayed in the house for several days, cooked meals and even took a luxurious bath. The homeowner was away at the time, and a neighbour who had been asked to keep an eye on the property noticed unusual activity on 9 June. Concerned, they contacted the Polk County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they found the man cooking dinner and fresh out of the bath, according to a report by The New York Post. In a statement, the sheriff's office said Joe admitted he didn't have permission to be inside. 'Not only did he not have permission to be there, he also had no idea who owned the house,' they added. He told officers that he had a fight with his wife four days earlier and didn't want to face her, so he decided to take shelter in someone else's home. The sheriff's office quipped, recalling the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears: 'We assume the bath temperature was not too hot, nor too cold, but just right.' Joe was arrested and charged with felony unarmed burglary, misdemeanour petit theft, and domestic battery. A similar incident took place in March 2023, when a woman in Seattle discovered a burglar bathing in her home. The intruder had reportedly entered through a window. After spotting him, she called emergency services. Officers arrived and, after receiving no response, found the man resting in her bathtub.

Shedeur Sanders caught speeding twice in June as rookie QB faces early off-field bumps in Ohio

Shedeur Sanders cited twice for speeding in one month (Browns/X) Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders finds himself under scrutiny this June—not for his performance on the field, but for a pair of speeding violations that have turned heads just weeks before training camp. The 23-year-old, known as much for being the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders as for his own promising talent, was ticketed twice for excessive speeding within a matter of days. Shedeur Sanders cited twice for speeding in Ohio, raising early concerns According to authorities, Sanders was first pulled over on June 5 by the Ohio State Patrol in Brunswick Hills. He was clocked at 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. That incident came with a $150 fine and $99 in court costs. More troubling, however, was his failure to appear at his scheduled arraignment on June 16, a misstep that raised eyebrows. Just one day after missing that court date, Sanders was again stopped—this time accused of driving 101 mph on a suburban Cleveland interstate in a Dodge TRX pickup. The offense, categorized as a fourth-degree misdemeanor, could be resolved with a $250 fine. But it's not the financial toll that has analysts and fans concerned—it's the pattern of behavior. Browns spokesperson Peter John-Baptiste acknowledged the situation, stating, "The team has addressed the tickets directly with Sanders and the tickets will be handled by him in the appropriate manner." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Despite the team's public assurance, the incidents have sparked wider conversations around responsibility and maturity, particularly for a player entering the NFL spotlight. Many expected Sanders to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he was ultimately selected in the fifth round at 144th overall after playing under his father at Colorado. Now, competing against three other quarterbacks on the Browns roster, Sanders' on-field focus risks being overshadowed by his off-field decisions. In a moment of accountability, Sanders finally spoke out. 'I've made some wrong choices, I can own up to it — I learn from them,' he admitted. His statement may not erase the infractions, but it's a step toward rebuilding trust, both within the organization and among fans. While speeding isn't inherently a character flaw, the quick succession of incidents has prompted concern about Sanders' situational awareness. It's a fair assumption that any NFL rookie—especially a quarterback—should know that every action is under a magnifying glass. Driving over 100 mph just days after a previous citation suggests a lapse in judgment more than anything else. Should Sanders shine during training camp, these incidents may fade into the background. But if he struggles, they'll likely resurface in every conversation about his development. For now, one lesson stands out: Shedeur Sanders has the talent to go far—he just needs to slow down to get there. At that point in time, the NFL legend owed a whopping $2.93 million to around eight creditors and declared assets worth $50,000. But in December 2024, as per court documents accessed by In Touch, Antonio Brown's bankruptcy was opposed by the trustee for 'failing to declare assets'. The trustee said, , '[Antonio] has failed to disclose his pre-petition [transfer] of property and his interests in various entities, has not timely or adequately complied with debtor reporting requirements, and cannot establish that his Plan is feasible.' Antonio Brown has not yet reacted to the whole lawsuit and what followed after.
