A nasty storm tore through parts of New Jersey Thursday afternoon, causing chaos at the Formula Drift event at Englishtown. It was particularly gnarly for Jeff Jones, who returned to the paddock to find a tree had fallen on his Z, puncturing the windshield and crushing the roof. Nobody was hurt in the incident, but the damage to the car was enough for Jones to rule out its participation in this weekend's event.

Jones shared photos and videos of the damage on Instagram, and even took over the official Formula D live stream to let fans know he was unharmed ( Warning: the clip above contains some colorful language ). He even jokingly asks if anybody has a spare drift car that he can enter into the event on Saturday.
From the up-close pics, it appears that the culprit was a mature but diseased oak tree. It crushed much of the roof over the Z's passenger compartment and blew out the windshield entirely. Enough of it was resting on the car to completely bottom out its suspension.

The good news is that the entire front clip of the car appears relatively undamaged, so everything under hood should have survived relatively unscathed. Even the driver-side door still opens.

According to NJ.com, local weather forecasters have ruled out the likelihood that the damage was caused by a tornado, suggesting instead that it was caused by simple (but no less dangerous) straight-line winds. Local observers reported gusts exceeding 60 mph between 4:00 and 4:30 PM Thursday as the system moved through.

'Do Not Drive:' Ford Issues a Recall for Super Duty Trucks With Bad Brake Pedals
Ford is warning 2025 Super Duty owners not to drive their pickups. They might have a brake pedal assembly that lacks a retaining spring that's designed to secure the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal, which can result in the loss of braking power. The recall affects just 2,345 2025 Ford Super Duty trucks, ranging from the F-250 to the F-550. The automaker began investigating the problem in late May after team members at the Kentucky Truck Plant notified Ford's Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) of a missing brake pedal retaining spring on a 2025 F-350. Photo by: Ford After that, Ford's CCRG reviewed a May 5 report of a service technician having no braking force during a pre-delivery inspection of a Super Duty, with the brake pedal 'swinging freely,' according to the Safety Recall Report . Ford then received a warranty report in early June of another F-350 with a missing spring that a tech found during its inspection. The CCRG, through its investigation, learned that an operator new to the job and still in training had built both trucks with the missing retaining spring. It also found that the camera system designed to monitor production was down during certain periods, so Ford is also recalling those vehicles without sufficient visual evidence that they were correctly built. Ford says it has already begun notifying affected owners. The automaker says it'll instruct them to work with their dealer to complete the inspection, as the automaker does not want owners driving their vehicles. And right on point, Mother Nature will deliver the first heat wave of the year, which will linger through next Thursday. As a reminder, three consecutive days at or above 90 is considered a heat wave. Saturday and Sunday will be in the low to mid-90s with mostly sunny skies and increasing humidity. CBS News Philadelphia. By Monday, we are looking at dangerous heat with highs in the upper 90s to 100 and overnight lows near 80. The feels-like heat index will range from 101-107. This dangerous heat will continue through Thursday. At those temperatures, heatstroke and heat exhaustion are possible. The cumulative effect of the heat over six days can lead to additional health problems. Because of this dangerous heat, a NEXT Weather Alert is in place Sunday through Wednesday. VSP: Life-threatening injuries from multi-vehicle I-64 crash in Newport News
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — There are life-threatening injuries resulting from a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 westbound in Newport News Friday night, Virginia State Police said. State Police said they are investigating a multi-vehicle crash between mile marker 250 and mile marker 249 on I-64 westbound in Newport News. The call for the crash came in at about 8:59 p.m. involving multiple vehicles with life-threatening injuries. The Virginia Department of Transportation is at the scene helping with rerouting traffic while State Police investigate the crash. VDOT said all westbound I-64 lanes were closed as of 10:10 p.m. It is unclear at this time how many vehicles were involved in the crash, and how many people were injured.
