Four suspects arrested for murders of two Gqeberha women
Police have arrested four suspects aged between 28 and 46 for the alleged murders of two women in Sakhasonke Village, Gqeberha, on Thursday.
The motive behind the killings of the women, aged 40 and 19, is under investigation.
The arrest of the two suspects was the result of a joint operation led by the Nelson Mandela Bay district detective intervention task team and Operation Bamba members.
'On Thursday night at about 8.30pm, SAPS Walmer officers responded to reports of gunfire. On arrival they discovered the lifeless bodies of two women, aged 40 and 19, both with multiple gunshot wounds,' said Capt Sandra Janse van Rensburg.
Acting on a lead, members expanded their search for the suspects to local hospitals.
They arrested the first suspect at Dora Nginza Hospital while he was receiving treatment for a leg injury.
'Further investigations led the members to a residence in Greenshields Park, where three more suspects were arrested.'
During the operation, police confiscated a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun and a box of 9mm ammunition.
'The suspects are facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,' said Van Rensburg.
They are set to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate's court on Monday.

The victim was assessed by a doctor and no independent evidence was handed in to show that the applicant would be acquitted,' he said. 'The contentious point was the circumstantial evidence in the form of a statement from the victim's sister. 'It was highlighted that the witness is out of the country and that the investigating officer has not yet obtained her statement. 'We cannot say whether we will be able to obtain the statement. I will argue that, although the statement is important to a certain degree, it is not a crucial piece of evidence. The State can proceed without it.' The suspect, who cannot be named to protect the child complainant, was arrested on April 22. Woman is held for ‘beating toddler with a bottle'
A Nelson Mandela Bay woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting her three-year-old child with a bottle. Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said Motherwell police attended to a complaint in the Shukushukuma area at about 6.30pm on Thursday. 'On arrival they were informed by a witness that while passing a house, he noticed the female suspect assaulting her three-year-old son with an empty bottle,' Janse van Rensburg said. 'The witness entered the house to intervene and managed to stop the woman and alerted the police. 'The boy was taken to hospital by family and had visible injuries to his head and face. 'The female suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder and child abuse.' Janse van Rensburg said the 35-year-old woman would appear in the Motherwell magistrate's court on Monday.
