FAM grateful for TMJ's contributions
THE Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) expresses its gratitude to the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, for his efforts and initiatives in revolutionising the national team.
FAM President Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub said Tunku Ismail's touch has begun to show a positive impact after Malaysia's 4-0 victory over Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil last Tuesday.
'On behalf of the FAM Executive Committee, I would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Tunku Mahkota Ismail for his initiatives and commitment in revolutionizing the Harimau Malaya squad.
'Our profound thanks to Tunku Mahkota Ismail, who is always attentive and provides support and assistance to FAM in efforts to further improve the performance of the Harimau Malaya squad. This success is a positive start for Harimau Malaya and Malaysian football as a whole,' he said in a statement issued by FAM today.
Earlier, he chaired the Third FAM Executive Committee Meeting for the 2025-2029 term, held at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya.
Meanwhile, Mohd Joehari also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government for their assistance, especially in financial aspect, in empowering the national team.
'This allocation from the Malaysian Government will certainly further boost the motivation of the national team players to achieve more success in the future.
'Once again, on behalf of the FAM Executive Committee, I would like to thank the Honourable Prime Minister for his full support for the Harimau Malaya squad,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Rachel Arnold has ended up as the bridesmaid again in the Asian Squash Championships. The Malaysian went down 11-4, 12-10, 11-4, 11-0 to Hong Kong's world No. 29 Ho Tze Lok in the women's final today at the Sarawak Squash Centre in Kuching. The setback came as a surprise as the 29-year-old Rachel had not dropped a set in the tournament until the semi-finals on Friday where she beat compatriot Aifa Azman 11-9, 11-2, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10. Rachel, who finished runner-up in the 2021 edition in Pakistan, said the hot weather was a factor for her defeat, and Tze Lok played well. "A bit disappointed in the final today, I didn't really adapt to the court, it was really hot and I struggled. She played really well today, putting me under a lot of pressure," said Rachel. "I think I made too many errors, that was the main thing. Every time she put me under pressure, I sort of went for it, maybe I should have stayed calm. "I struggled with the weather, it was really hot... I couldn't end the rallies in the way I usually do," said Rachel whose next event will be the National Championship in Kuala Lumpur in August. In the men's final, second seed Lau Tsz Kwan completed a double for Hong Kong after stunning Abdulla Al Tamini of Qatar 14-12 13-11 11-9.

Indonesia outplay Malaysia for Billie Jean King Cup promotion
KUALA LUMPUR: Promotion once again eluded Malaysia but the national women's tennis squad can still be proud to replicate their top-four finish from last season in the Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) Asia-Oceania Group II competition this year. Malaysia lost 2-0 in their promotional playoff against Indonesia at the National Tennis centre here today (June 21). Elsa Wan Abdul Rahman succumbed to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Anjali Kirana Junarto in the opening singles. Joleen Saw had Malaysian fans on the edge of their seats as she pushed Mishka Sinclaire Goenardi hard before going down 6-7 (8), 6-1, 6-4. Mongolia will join Indonesia in the Group I competition next year as they defeated Philippines 2-0 in the other promotional playoff. Malaysia had finished second behind Mongolia in group A earlier this week to qualify for the promotional playoff, which was essentially the semi-finals. A total of 10 teams competed in Group II this season. Joleen, who was reduced to tears after losing her match against Indonesia, was nevertheless proud of the team's efforts this year. "I tried my best but at the end of the day she (Mishka) made the better shots and played really well," said a visibly dejected Joleen. "The atmosphere was incredible today and I really appreciate the support we got from our home crowd. "Unfortunately we could not get the result we wanted. It is a bit disappointing, there was not much I could do. "Overall, I think we had a better chance (at promotion) than last year and our performances were quite okay. "I will continue to keep working hard to improve my game - especially my serve and footwork - and hopefully I can play again next year if I am on semester break." The national squad finished third in the Group II competition last year - Malaysia's best-ever performance in the history of the competition - when it featured a different two-phase, round robin format.
