Union Minister Hardeep Puri chairs consultative committee meeting on petroleum & natural gas
New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri chaired the meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Haryana's Manesar on Friday, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said in a release.
While chairing the Consultative Committee meeting, the Union Minister highlighted India's remarkable progress in energy affordability, access, and infrastructure development.
He underscored the government's proactive measures in stabilising fuel prices, expanding LPG coverage, and boosting refining and distribution capacity across the country.
Puri reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to inclusive and consumer-focused energy policies.
During the meeting, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas Suresh Gopi also attended and witnessed robust participation from 27 Members of Parliament.
The MPs shared insightful suggestions and feedback on key issues, including fuel affordability, LPG access, regional infrastructure disparities, and energy resilience.
The Minister Hardeep Singh Puri elaborated on how under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India was able to successfully navigate geopolitical adversities to ensure affordability and availability of energy for citizens without any shortage.
He noted that when fuel prices were skyrocketing worldwide, India was the only country where prices came down. Notably, the Government reduced excise duties twice--on 4 Nov 2021 and 22 May 2022--slashing petrol by Rs 13/litre and diesel by Rs 16/litre.
A recent hike in April 2025 was absorbed by Oil Marketing Companies, protecting consumers from an additional burden.
Highlighting LPG reforms, the Minister detailed the transformational impact of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Since its inception, LPG coverage has soared from 55 per cent in 2014 to nearly universal access today. LPG consumption rose significantly, with daily deliveries exceeding 56 lakh cylinders.
Over 25,000 LPG distributors now operate across the country, 86 per cent in rural areas, ensuring deep last-mile reach.
Shri Hardeep Singh Puri informed that LPG prices in India are among the lowest globally. Despite a steep 58 per cent increase in international LPG prices, PMUY consumers now pay only Rs 553 for a 14.2 kg cylinder.
Oil companies incurred a loss of Rs 40,000 crore last year to keep LPG prices affordable.
A cylinder costing approximately Rs 1,058 is being provided to PMUY beneficiaries at just Rs 553. For regular consumers, the price is Rs 853.
As a result, the per-day cooking cost comes to around Rs 6.8 for PMUY households and Rs 14.7 for non-PMUY users.
Union Minister Puri informed that LPG prices in India are among the lowest globally. Despite a steep 58% increase in international LPG prices, PMUY consumers now pay Rs 553 for a 14.2 kg cylinder--39% less than the Rs 903 they paid in July 2023. Oil companies have incurred Rs 40,000 crore loss last year in order to keep LPG prices low. Cylinder of approximately Rs 1058 cost is being sold at Rs 553 to Ujjwala consumers.
For regular consumers, the price is Rs 853. The per-day cooking cost is now around Rs 6.8 for PMUY households and Rs 14.7 for non-PMUY users. (ANI)

Raipur, Jun 22 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the temporary campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and I-Hub Raipur in Nava Raipur on Sunday. Shah said that this marks a historic day for Chhattisgarh in the direction of modernising and scientifying the criminal justice system. The NFSU temporary campus and I-Hub will be developed at a cost of Rs 268 crores. The campus will offer BSc, MSc in Forensic Science, Cyber Security, Psychology, Digital Forensic, and professional diploma courses from the academic session 2025-26. Shah highlighted that these institutions will not only empower Chhattisgarh but also the entire central India with modern justice and crime investigation capabilities. He added that new forensic technologies like DNA fingerprinting, cyber security, and digital forensic will be accessible locally, making investigations faster and more accurate. The Home Minister urged the youth to become entrepreneurs and start their own startups, leveraging the I-Hub's resources and support. He also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma for their efforts in taking the anti-Naxalite campaign to a decisive phase. Shah appealed to Naxalites to surrender and join the development journey of Chhattisgarh. He assured that graduating from NFSU under the Modi government will guarantee employment. The NFSU's permanent campus is expected to be fully developed within three years, opening up vast career opportunities for Chhattisgarh's youth in forensic science. Shah underscored that the new criminal laws aim to ensure justice within three years and establish a modern, science-based criminal justice system. Bengaluru Metro's loss is BMTC' gain on NICE Road
Bengaluru: With the long-delayed Yellow Line of Namma Metro to Electronics City still not open to public, thousands of commuters are turning to BMTC's NICE Road express bus services, which have seen a sharp rise in ridership and earnings in recent months. Launched in Dec 2023, BMTC services along NICE Road corridor began with 62,000 passengers. Today, they attract more than 4 lakh commuters each month. The corporation is now operating 53 buses across 17 routes on NICE Road, with daily ridership exceeding 13,000 passengers. Revenue has also seen a notable jump, with earnings per kilometre doubling in just over a year to Rs 58.8 from Rs 26.1. Among the services gaining traction is the recently introduced non-stop express route covering 48km between Madavara and Electronics City. BMTC chief traffic manager (operations) GT Prabhakar Reddy said the services have outpaced other major corridors within city limits in terms of popularity. "...Responding to this demand, we've added more routes and buses. We've also introduced a direct link from Tavarekere to Electronics City and are planning to roll out 10 AC buses on this route," he said. NICE Road buses now connect key IT hubs via routes originating in Madavara, Vijayanagar TTMC, Bidadi, Kengeri, Banashankari, Basaveshwara Nagar, and other residential areas. Commuters cite reduced travel time and avoidance of city-centre congestion as key reasons for choosing NICE corridor. A one-way ticket from Madavara to Electronics City costs Rs 76, including a Rs 30 toll charge levied by NICE. Although BMTC had earlier requested the toll be reduced or waived for public transport buses, the proposal did not receive any favourable response from NICE authorities. Several passengers also use Metro to reach Madavara before switching to buses to complete their journey to Electronics City. This seamless multimodal shift has become increasingly necessary, as BMRCL continues to miss deadlines for the Yellow Line, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra. Despite spending nearly Rs 7,000 crore on the 19-km elevated stretch, the Metro line — initially expected to launch in June with three trains — is yet to receive third-party safety clearance for its signalling system. With no official launch date in sight and repeated delays, public confidence in BMRCL's timeline continues to erode. Meanwhile, BMTC's efficient operations along NICE Road are proving to be a lifeline for daily commuters to the city's IT corridor. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurates Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Trust office in Yamunanagar
Chandigarh: Union housing, urban affairs and power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar. During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial. A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee. The expert committee will be responsible for identifying key historical facts and significant events related to the monument, as well as contributing to its preservation and enhancement through in-depth research. Detailed discussions were held on the implementation of various projects under Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust and other related points. During the meeting, Rakesh Beniwal, founder of Kisan Yuva Club, and his colleague Aman Virk handed over a cheque of Rs 11 lakh to Khattar as a donation in the name of the trust. Earlier, chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Zora Singh, donated Rs 11 lakh to the trust.
