WPP Buys InfoSum in AI Push
WPP WPP -1.49%decrease; red down pointing triangle said it is buying collaboration platform InfoSum, marking the advertising group's latest move in a string of deals to bolster its artificial-intelligence capabilities.
The London-listed ad group said Thursday that InfoSum–which will join its media investment group GroupM–will help it create marketing solutions that are enhanced by AI.
InfoSum's cross-cloud data collaboration technology allows companies to connect data sources without moving or exposing data, it said. Chief Executive Lauren Wetzel will remain in the role, WPP added.
'Directly integrating InfoSum's global data network and technology infrastructure will allow our clients to create even more value from their first-party data and enable us to train client AI models against the most data, from the most places, at unprecedented scale and speed,' GroupM's CEO Brian Lesser said.
The company said the deal represents a 'major investment' in its artificial-intelligence-driven data offer but didn't disclose financial details.
WPP recently expanded its partnership with Heineken using an in-house AI platform for shopper-marketing activities and invested in Stability AI to leverage its models across image, video, 3D, and audio to improve marketing and advertising campaigns. CEO Mark Read said in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires that the group is already benefiting from its investments in artificial intelligence and that 2025 is the year of execution.

How much passive income could a £20,000 ISA provide in a year?
The London Stock Exchange — and more specifically, the FTSE 100 — is a popular place for investors to hunt for passive income. The UK is famed for its culture of paying large and consistent dividends. And the Footsie is packed with shares whose strong balance sheets, market leading positions, and diversified revenue streams provide companies the firepower to deliver decent dividends over time. Yet the exact amount of dividend income an investor makes can vary significantly from stock to stock. And with hundreds of dividend-paying stocks to choose from, the amount one individual makes could look very different to someone else's. Still with a £20,000 Stocks and Shares ISA allowance, I'm confident that investors can make a tasty four-figure dividend income each year. As I say, the dividends paid by UK shares are impressive by global standards. But shareholder payouts are never, ever guaranteed, and past performance isn't always a reliable guide to future returns. Take Shell, for instance, which hadn't cut annual dividends since World War II until the global pandemic came along in 2020. Looking ahead, speculation is mounting that Diageo's about to cut dividends as weak sales and the impact of US tariffs weigh. Payouts here have risen at reported currencies every year since the late 1990s. ISA investors can, however, substantially reduce (if not totally eliminate) the risk of such events on their income through diversification. Owning a basket of dividend-paying stocks can substantially limit the impact on an individual's total passive income. Here's a portfolio of 10 separate dividend stocks that could deliver a large and reliable income over time. With high dividend yields averaging 5.8% — above the FTSE 100 average of 3.4% — they could provide a second income of £1,160 over the next 12 months alone, based on a £20,000 ISA investment spread equally among them. Both Vodafone and Rio Tinto have cut dividends in recent times in response to tough trading conditions and/or balance sheet worries. But this collection of quality FTSE 100 shares combines high yields with diversification across sectors, reducing risk while maintaining strong overall income potential. I hold four of these dividend shares in my own portfolio. Aviva is actually my fifth largest single holding today. Following heavy restructuring, it has substantial balance sheet strength it can use to pay large dividends and invest for growth. As of December, its Solvency II capital ratio was 201%. With its robust financial foundations, it can continue building and acquiring capital-light businesses to grow long-term earnings (and by extension) dividends. Its planned £3.7m acquisition of Direct Line is a prime example of how it's using its cash reserves to good effect. Dividends could come under threat when economic downturns dampen financial services spending. But over a longer horizon, I think it will remain a top-paying dividend stock. The Rolls-Royce share price is close to an all-time record. Could it still be a bargain?
At first glance, even the idea of Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR) offering a stock market bargain right now may seem laughable. After all, the Rolls-Royce share price is already up 52% so far this year and has been trading close to record levels. Over five years, it has risen a staggering 677%. But could it still be a smart buy for my portfolio even at its current level? An important thing to understand about this situation is that the Rolls-Royce share price has not been moving like that for no reason. Five years ago, the business was on its knees. Civil aviation demand had slumped, the company was bleeding cash and it diluted existing shareholders by selling more shares to raise cash. Part of the reason the Rolls-Royce share price has recovered sharply is that the civil aviation demand picture has since been transformed. With people flying again in large numbers, airlines have been servicing existing engines regularly as well as buying new ones. But that is not the only reason Rolls shares have soared. Defence spending has increased markedly, lifting defence shares including this one. The company's power systems division has also been doing well, something that looks set to last. Meanwhile, the company has made moves of its own that help explain the share price growth. One is aggressive cost-cutting. Another has been setting aggressive medium-term goals for financial performance. If reached, this could help justify a premium valuation for the company. The better Rolls has been doing, the healthier it has looked financially – paving the way for more success in future. On that basis, I reckon that even now, Rolls-Royce shares could be a bargain. This month, a non-executive director bought 2,837 of them with her own money. Should I do the same? Having hit some goals early, the company has raised them. That could create more value. It is benefiting from elevated demand in all three of its business areas. A price-to-earnings ratio of 30 looks expensive to me. But by 2028 the company is targeting £3.6bn-£3.9bn of underlying operating profits annually. That is not the same as profit (as there are non-operating elements to consider, like financing and investing) but the current market capitalisation is around 19 times that number (at the top end of the estimate). So if Rolls-Royce delivers, the current share price does not look wildly expensive to me. If it can deliver on those targets, it may set higher ones, making the current price look even more attractive to a long-term investor. Still, there is a lot that remains to be proven. Setting a goal is one thing, achieving it is another. Civil aviation demand is occasionally thrown into a slump by anything from war or terrorism to a recession or pandemic. That risk remains high in my view and I do not think the current Rolls-Royce share price offers me enough margin of safety to account for it. How I used 7,000 Amex points to fly home from London this summer

Cash fares can skyrocket, and award availability is often limited. But with the right transfer bonus and a bit of flexibility, you can unlock serious value from your travel rewards. This summer, I flew one-way from London Heathrow (LHR) to San Francisco (SFO) for just 7,000 American Express Membership Rewards points, a fraction of what most travelers would expect to pay. The key? A 30% transfer bonus from Amex to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, which brought the required 9,000 Flying Club points down to just 7,000 Amex points. Here's exactly how I did it — and how you might be able to replicate the strategy next time a bonus like this rolls around. While some card members may redeem their points directly in the Amex Travel Portal, they can also be transferred to various airline and hotel transfer partners, including Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is one of the most underappreciated airline loyalty programs, especially for transatlantic flights in economy class. While major US carriers may charge 30,000 to 40,000 miles (or more) for a one-way flight between Europe and the US, Virgin Atlantic regularly prices economy award tickets from 6,000 points. I found availability from London to San Francisco for just 9,000 points plus £220 (around $300) in June, and it ended up being one of the best redemptions I've made all year. Credit card issuers like American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou American Express often run limited-time transfer bonuses to their travel partners. In October 2024, there was a 30% bonus from Amex to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. That meant every 1,000 Amex Membership Rewards points transferred would become 1,300 Flying Club points. I transferred 37,000 Amex points for various Virgin redemptions I had in mind, and those became 48,100 Flying Club points, thanks to the transfer bonus. In short, instead of needing to transfer the full 9,000 points, the transfer bonus would've only required me to transfer 7,000 Amex points, which would've yielded 9,100 Flying Club points after the 30% bonus. That was just enough to cover my flight. To put that in perspective, I got a 10-hour transatlantic flight for the equivalent of 7,000 Amex points, plus taxes and fees, which is a fantastic redemption, especially during peak travel season. I found that London to San Francisco flight by searching directly on Virgin Atlantic's website. That £220 (around $300) in taxes and fees is relatively high, as are all Virgin's fees on UK departures due to airport and fuel surcharges, but even with the cash spend factored in, this was an exceptional value. The process was simple: I located award availability on my preferred date. I transferred 7,000 Amex points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Within minutes, the points posted, and I completed the booking. I flew in Virgin Atlantic Economy Classic, which includes the following. One 23-kilogram (50-pound) checked bag Standard seat selection at check-in Complimentary meals, drinks and entertainment The flight itself was smooth, and the service on board was friendly and efficient. While Economy Light fares are cheaper in cash, I appreciated the added benefits of Economy Classic, especially the included luggage. Even though this exact 30% transfer bonus has expired, Amex frequently offers new ones. Here's what to do if you want to replicate this redemption strategy. Monitor Amex transfer bonuses via your Membership Rewards account. Create a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account (if you don't already have one). Search for award availability before transferring points. Remember: Amex transfers to Virgin Atlantic are instant but nonreversible. If you find a 9,000-point flight and a 30% bonus is active, you'll only need 7,000 Amex points. Otherwise, you'll need to transfer 9,000 Amex points, which is still a great deal. Using just 7,000 Amex points to fly from London to San Francisco was a smart, high-value redemption — and a reminder that timing matters in award travel. By combining a low-cost redemption with a limited-time transfer bonus, I got more than 8 cents per point in value, a rare feat for economy travel. If you're flexible with your travel plans and pay attention to transfer bonuses, redemptions like this are very possible.
