Disgraced lawyer from Kilmacolm can't attend court date due to wedding

Iain Robertson, 71, told judge Olga Pasportnikov on Monday that he wouldn't be able to be present for a proceeds of crime case on June 23, 2025.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that this was because he was a guest at a marriage ceremony on the same day.
Robertson, who is representing himself in a bid by the Crown to recover money he made from a £1.5 million laundering racket, told judge Pasportnikov: 'I'm on home leave for a wedding that day. I have a week of home leave every month.'
Robertson, of Kilmacolm, is currently the subject of an action brought by prosecutors under proceeds of crime laws.
Robertson was given eight years in January 2023. He and two other corrupt solicitors - Alistair Blackwood, 69, and David Lyons - used their law firm Robertson & Ross in Paisley to launder cash obtained illegally.
The trio acted alongside Mohammed Aziz, 63, and Robert Ferguson, 69, in a course of criminal activity.
The five men were sentenced following a nine-week trial at the High Court in Glasgow before judge Lord Richardson.

The trial was the culmination of a process which had been triggered by a Law Society probe into activities at the firm.
They were convicted of fraud and multiple charges under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Robertson, Lyons and Aziz were also convicted on charges of being involved in serious organised crime. All were sent to prison.
Prosecutors told jurors the case centred on four transactions carried out between May 2015 and July 2016.
The first transaction involved a £79,340 stolen cheque due to be paid to a law firm in Jersey.
The next centred on £240,000 from a fraudulent house sale in London.
The third transaction saw £985,000 stolen from the hacked bank account of an individual.
And the final illegal activity was uncovered after Robertson claimed to be acting for a man who wanted to sell his home in Essex.

The court heard that the "seller" was said to be staying at a flat that turned out to be Ferguson's address.
A total of £181,786 was made from the fraudulent sale.
In each transaction, the proceeds were funnelled through the client bank account held by Robertson's firm in Paisley, Robertson & Ross.
Limited and false records were created to make them appear legitimate.
Fake papers and fake IDs - including a passport and driver's licence - were collated in a bid to cover up the crimes.
The Law Society raised concerns about several of these transactions before alerting police to the potential illegal activity.
The trial heard that lawyer Robertson, who has been suspended by the Law Society along with Blackwood, was at the heart of the money-laundering scheme since he had access to his firm's client account.
Judge Pasportnikov fixed a hearing in the proceeds case to take place on June 30, 2025.

Evil Ewan Methven, 27, repeatedly knifed and choked 21-year-old Phoenix Spencer-Horn at her home in East Kilbride. The High Court in Glasgow heard how Methven attacked his partner with three knives, stabbing her 20 times. He severed her head before trying to remove her limbs and torso from her body. Earlier that day, Methven had complained to his girlfriend that her waitress shifts made him "lonely". ‌ Prosecutors said the cocaine-fuelled postman tried to cover up the horrific murder for two days after he spent the weekend driving Ms Spencer-Horn's car, attempting to buy more drugs, and searching 170 times for pornography. ‌ He even replied to the victim's mum, claiming her daughter was "alive and well." The couple were said to have been together for two years and met at a family party. Prosecutor Christopher McKenna said: "The accused murdered his girlfriend, Phoenix Spencer-Horn, in the top-floor flat they shared. Late on Saturday November 16, he strangled her and stabbed her. He dialled 999 but not until November 18. "Her mutilated and decapitated body was discovered only on November 18." Ms Spencer-Horn had visited her mum the day before she was murdered, which Methven blamed on a psychotic episode, fuelled by cocaine, steroids, and alcohol. ‌ The murderer told a 999 operator, he had been "trying to muster up the courage to phone" after he claimed he "totally blacked out through the thing." However, a delivery driver told the court Methven "did not appear drunk or under the influence" on the night of the horrific murder. Police were dispatched to the flat and discovered the victim's body covered up in the hallway next to two bloodied knives. ‌ Methven, who was described as "calm", had tried to dismember the body. He told officers: "I could not stay here with her like that. I tried to dismember her. I moved her from the bath and put her there." After entering the cell, he said: "I guess this is what my next 25 years look like." His KC Tony Graham said: "Those related to Phoenix and those who are friends are likely to regard Ewan Methven as the personification of evil. While of little moment, he wishes to express publicly how truly sorry he is for the death. ‌ "He recognises the relatives and friends will never be able to forgive him. He will not be able to forgive himself. He understands the bereaved will seek an explanation, but he cannot provide an explanation." Heartbroken friends and family of the victim were present to see Methven in the dock. Judge Lord Matthews said Methven had pleaded guilty to "an appalling and horrible crime". Earlier this year, the victim's heartbroken mum, Alison, spoke of her daughter's "stunning smile" that "people who were lucky enough to have met Phe were left with after encountering her amazing energy and radiance'. ‌ In an emotional social media post, she said the family had been left "shattered" and they would remain "broken forever" over their loss. Detective Chief Inspector Susie Cairns said: "My thoughts remain with Phoenix's family and friends as they continue to try to come to terms with what happened. "Methven now faces the consequences of his actions. Violence such as this is never acceptable in our communities, and we will work tirelessly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice." Rachel Trelfa has accused former civil partner Nyomi Fee of being a 'master manipulator', the Daily Record reports. The pair were convicted of murdering Trelfa's son Liam in 2014 who suffered fatal heart injuries similar to those found on road crash victims. Trelfa wrote: 'My ex, Nyomi Fee, abused me and is a master manipulator and lies through her teeth. She messed my head up big time.' Liam was badly neglected and spent the last few days of his life in agony from an untreated broken leg and fractured arm. At the couple's trial, Nyomi Fee was described as 'domineering' and it was claimed she was the 'main actor' in Liam's murder. Fee got a sentence of 24 years and Trelfa was given just six months less for her appalling part in allowing and contributing to the murder of her son. Trelfa's condemnation of her ex came in a character reference she wrote for her prison pal, killer Jayney Sutherley. Trelfa believes Fee manufactured accusations against Sutherley, who was cleared in court of waging a homophobic and transphobic vendetta against Fee and her trans lover Alex Stewart – who was known as Alan Baker when jailed for murder in 2013. Hairdresser Sutherley – who killed a man with scissors – had been accused of persecuting Fee and Stewart. Trelfa wrote about Fee: 'She messed my head up big time but Jayney has been there and supported me. 'I can say, hand on heart, that Jayney is not homophobic in any way or ever insulted me. She is a lovely person who will help anyone. She adds: 'I would just like to say I have a very nice friendship with Jayney. She has taken me for me and taken me under her wing. She is so supportive with me.' Trelfa says she is also in a relationship with another woman despite being behind bars. She said: 'I am gay and in a relationship with a woman. Janey has been there for me if I have any problems. 'We work together in the hairdresser's and she has taught me so much. I have a lot of time for her.' Rachel Trelfa and Nyomi Fee moved from Ryton, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to Fife in December 2011, after Trelfa left baby Liam's father. Their trial at the High Court in Livingston in 2016 heard how Fee tried to blame Liam's death on another child. Doctors found Liam had suffered a ruptured heart from a blow or blows to his body. They also discovered double fractures of his thigh bone and arm. In total they counted more than 30 injuries on his body. Jayney's trial in May heard how she was accused of being transphobic, largely because she insisted on calling Stewart – who has full male biology – a man. Sheriff Millar found the charges not proven. It emerged the charge had prevented Sutherley from applying for parole for more than a year. Sutherley, now 51, stabbed 40-year-old Alistair MacFadyen through the heart at a flat in Fairway Avenue, Glenburn, Paisley, in June 2019. She was sentenced to six years and eight months after pleading guilty to culpable homicide. She was originally accused of murder. The Crown accepted the reduced plea on the basis of provocation. The victim had been out of prison for two days when he was stabbed. In 2013 Baker invited John Weir, 36, into his home in Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire, before stabbing him at least 16 times. He claimed self-defence but was convicted of murder. After identifying as a woman, the killer was transferred from a male prison to HMP Greenock, where they became involved in a relationship with Fee. The couple are believed to be engaged. The relationship has caused fury among other prisoners, who claim the couple have been given freedoms that others cannot enjoy. The Sutherley trial heard claims that the couple had sex in prison showers, were granted time alone in each other's cells and fumbled with each other in public areas in the jail.
