Discover different side to Dubai at JA Hatta Fort Hotel

Trade Arabia23-04-2025

Surrounded by craggy mountains as far as the eye can see, and nestled within a beautiful oasis of lush greenery and rare birds, one would never guess that JA Hatta Fort Hotel is actually part of Dubai.
Free from skyscrapers and traffic-jammed roads, the mountainous region of Hatta presents a complete contrast to what most visitors expect from the UAE.
For many, JA Hatta Fort Hotel stands out as one of the most special and unique resorts in the country.
After all, where else could guests swim laps in a pool while admiring views of the towering Hajar mountains? Or enjoy incredible hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities right from their front door? The hotel provides the perfect location for nature lovers and active types, combining high levels of luxury with rugged wilderness and authentic UAE culture.
Opened in 1981, it became one of the first resorts in Hatta, an area often likened to Dubai's version of the Scottish highlands. Filled with character, it has maintained its original stone walls and 1980s architecture, spanning over 80 acres. Home to 79 rooms and suites, the accommodation caters to every kind of traveler, and furry friends are welcome to stay in the pet-friendly rooms as well. The plush mountain-view rooms are adorned with modern wooden furnishings, vaulted ceilings, and private terraces or balconies, while the Terra Cabins (opened in 2023) offer a fun and quirky glamping-style experience.
Guests have the opportunity to stay in one of the newly opened three-bedroom Terra Villas, which promises an extraordinary experience in every sense. Cozy yet chic and stylish, it features walled private gardens, an outdoor hot tub, table tennis, spacious comfortable rooms, a dining area, living room, and kitchen.
While dining in the remotest corners of the UAE often involves rustic cafeteria snacks, JA Hatta Fort Hotel brings a touch of gourmet dining to the great outdoors. Guests can start their day with a lavish breakfast spread on the breezy Gazebo restaurant balcony. Set under the iconic Hatta sign, the breakfast includes eggs made to order, excellent home-baked pastries, fresh fruits, and more. Lunch is also served here, either à la carte or buffet-style (including Arabic, Indian, Mediterranean, and other cuisines), while dinner is a sophisticated affair in Jeema restaurant.
Taking in delicious soups, fresh seafood, homemade pastas, premium meats, and decadent desserts such as cheesecakes and tarts, guests savor excellent evening meals paired with a vast choice of wines. Sports fans can catch all the big games at the bar, while drinks and snacks are served poolside as well. A popular spot for outside guests visiting Hatta, it stands out as the best mountain dining experience in Dubai.
MEETINGS AND CELEBRATIONS
For those seeking a memorable location for team-building or corporate outings, it doesn't get any better than JA Hatta Fort Hotel. The conference rooms can be adapted to suit all requirements, while the palm garden provides a lovely shaded space for outdoor meetings and dining. Important guests can even arrive via the resort's private helipad, and by road, it is less than an hour and a half from Dubai International Airport. This spot serves as the perfect place to show business partners, colleagues, and overseas clients a different side to Dubai that they might not know exists, with the mountainous backdrop providing extra 'wow factor' for every talk and presentation.
FACILITIES
Looped by a five-kilometre running and hiking track, there is so much to do within the vast hotel grounds. The petting zoo, home to friendly deer, tortoises, and fluffy rabbits, delights visitors of all ages, while younger guests can burn off energy with pony rides, human-sized table football, climbing walls, a dedicated kids pool, and other activities.
With paddle and tennis courts, mini golf, a driving range, archery, a 24-hour gym, spa, a mini mountain, and a lovely pool, it is easy for guests to fill a few action-packed days without straying out of the hotel gates.
NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
While it may be tempting to remain within the lovely hotel complex, guests are encouraged to explore some of the many marked hiking trails of Hatta. After all, it is only by striding through these majestic peaks that they can truly appreciate their surreal beauty and get up close to the amazing wildlife and heritage sites.
Hatta Wadi Hub is the starting point for Hatta's marked trails, just a five-minute drive from the hotel. The concierge can arrange private transfers there for a small cost, offering trails for all abilities – ranging from green (flat and easy) to black (steep and challenging).
Like most visitors to Hatta, many are determined to hike up to the Hollywood-esque Hatta sign. With directions from amiable staff members and a thorough signage system that has improved in recent years, they can complete the loop to the sign and back in around two and a half hours.
Taking guests past Bronze Age tombs that date back more than 3,000 years, dams filled with clear blue water, native flora and fauna, and charming local settlements, the views are absolutely tremendous throughout. If any guests are in the mood for more adrenaline-fueled thrills, they can also redeem decent discounts on mountain bike hire, zorbing (rolling down a hill in a plastic ball), and other thrilling pursuits.
Alternatively, for those wanting to experience a morning jog that stretches beyond the hotel perimeter, the pristine paths of Leem Lake and Al Wadi Park lie just across the road.

Hotel Design in Full Light by Oscar Lucien Ono

LE SOLEIA — THE SUN AS HERITAGE On the very chic Avenue Victor Hugo, in the very heart of Nice, Le Soleia rises like an ode to light, the sea, and the Mediterranean art of living. This new 4-star hotel by Inwood Hotels, entrusted to interior design studio Maison Numéro 20 and its founder Oscar Lucien Ono, celebrates the radiant and sensual spirit of the Riviera with a sense of effortless, joyful elegance. A soft yet brilliant presence, the sun is the soul of Le Soleia. It inspires the hotel's curves, materials, and colours — from marble in ochre hues to the pastel shades of traditional Niçois shutters. Omnipresent, it warms the spaces, highlights the textures, and infuses every detail with a simple, sun-drenched joy. More than just a source of light, it is an invitation to slowness, to Southern beauty, to escape. THE WARM COLOURS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN From the moment you step through the Art Deco façade, the tone is set: generous volumes, natural materials, and enveloping softness. The earthy, pinkish, ochre and beige tones of the walls evoke the sunlit façades of Mediterranean architecture — those time-worn walls in pigments of ochre, sand, and coral, where the sun leaves its mark even on the stone. Throughout the hotel, subtle yet evocative nods appear: the soft pale green of Provençal shutters, the faded pastels of old window frames, the wrought-iron balconies, the gentle shadows cast by louvred blinds… Le Soleia captures these nuances and transforms them into a sensory, glowing experience. In the light-filled lobby, a plaster amphora by artist Thibault Perrigne sits in conversation with a globe-shaped floor lamp, while a sculpted sun watches over the space. The gesture is sculptural, almost mythological. The décor envisioned by Oscar Lucien Ono blends organic lines and artistic references: turned wood, waves, ceramics, wicker, sheer fabrics — everything recalls nature and the touch of the artisan. THE MEDITERRANEAN'S ARTISTIC HERITAGE A passionate admirer of classical art, Oscar Lucien Ono offers Le Soleia a subtle tribute to the Villa Kérylos, a Mediterranean gem in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. The hotel's graphic universe draws freely from it: textile waves, mural frescoes, and spiral trimmings by Houles evoke antique curves, while Thibault Perrigne's amphora adds a sculptural dimension. These subtle touches create an atmosphere that is at once timeless and contemporary. Le Soleia is not merely a hotel: it is an open-air narrative, where art weaves an intimate connection with space. On the walls, frescoes by artist Raphael Schmitt — stylised palm trees and sketched suns — bring a discreet poetry, like a warm breeze brushing the skin. A CELESTIAL CEILING FRESCO As though from a dream, Oscar Lucien Ono imagined and designed a ceiling fresco. Sculpted from laser-cut painted wood and floating overhead, it evokes celestial bodies, the sun, and the breath of the wind. The lines form a fluid, almost organic motion — at once ethereal and calming. This indoor sky, both graphic and contemplative, imparts a sense of freshness and lightness. A discreet yet vibrant artwork, it invites the gaze to rise and the mind to wander. THE RESTAURANT, IN THE SHADE OF THE PALMS Like a garden suspended between sea and sky, the restaurant is dressed in shades of green — from the softest to the most intense. This botanical palette envelops guests in a tranquil interior landscape, reminiscent of a sun-drenched palm grove. Glass screens create plays of light and transparency, echoing the Mediterranean vegetation filtering the sun. A wall-mounted plaster sun completes the scene, like a benevolent star hanging over the day. THE BEDROOMS: COCOONS OPEN TO THE SEA The 46 rooms and suites — 32 of which have terraces — are gentle, light-filled havens designed as Mediterranean cocoons. Three palettes, inspired by the Niçois landscape, adorn the interiors: the golden ochre of sun-warmed façades, terracotta shades evoking the earth and tiled rooftops, and the soft blues and sea greens of the nearby coastline. Texture takes centre stage: wave-like headboards, crumpled C&C Milano fabrics reminiscent of waves against warm sand, seashells placed like talismans, vintage ceramics, and sun motifs by Maison Paradis. Blonde wood, woven wicker, and natural textiles compose a serene, organic harmony. Here, every detail is intended to evoke a sense of calm and simple beauty — in an atmosphere that encourages rest and escape. THE RIVIERA UNVEILED: OPEN AND TIMELESS Le Soleia offers a contemporary, liberated take on the Mediterranean. Through its materials, light, soft forms, and coastal-inspired motifs, Oscar Lucien Ono envisions a place that breathes sea air, sunshine, and joie de vivre. Stylised waves, subtle stripes, pastel and sun-washed tones move throughout the hotel like a visual symphony. It is a place to slow down, find inspiration, reconnect. A tribute to the South — to its effortless beauty and quiet energy. A luminous and sensitive interlude, where every room, corridor, and detail tells the story of a Riviera that is free, vibrant, and timeless. ABOUT OSCAR LUCIEN ONO Following an initial career between Paris and London, Oscar Lucien Ono founded Maison Numéro 20 in 2014, an interior architecture and decoration studio based in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. In line with the tradition of ' ensembliers décorateurs' , he merges interior design with the decorative arts, combining artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Deeply attached to a certain vision of French chic, Oscar undertakes projects both in France and abroad, including private residences, hotels, restaurants, and boutiques. His style, both refined and sensorial, creates a dialogue between eras and materials. With a degree in art history, he approaches each space as a story, where every detail contributes to a subtle narrative. With particular attention to contrast and finishing, Oscar treats light like a painter, playing with chiaroscuro and transparency to bring out the materials and volumes. 'What moves me is creating places that tell a story — where one feels the imprint of the hand, the passage of time, and the presence of beauty.'

'The ARFF team rushed to the spot and, in coordination with the Saudia team, contained the smoke. Damage was averted and all passengers deboarded safely.' The flight was part of the annual Hajj operations, which saw over one lakh Indian pilgrims travel to Mecca this year. Hajj rituals were held in Saudi Arabia between June 4 and June 9. The first batch of Indian pilgrims had departed as early as May, with flights from cities like Lucknow and Hyderabad. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently confirmed that 1,22,518 pilgrims from India had participated in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage. In an unrelated incident on the same day, a Lufthansa flight en route to Hyderabad from Frankfurt was forced to turn back after a bomb threat was received by authorities. Sources said an email threatening the Hyderabad-bound flight was received by airport officials at 6:01 PM IST on June 15. As a precaution, the aircraft returned to its departure point in Frankfurt. A Lufthansa spokesperson stated, 'Out of an abundance of caution, Lufthansa flight LH752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure after authorities were made aware of a bomb threat posted on social media.' The airline confirmed that all passengers were provided accommodation in Frankfurt. 'The safety of our passengers and crew is Lufthansa's highest priority,' the spokesperson added. The affected passengers were scheduled to resume their journey to Hyderabad the next day. A bomb threat assessment committee has been activated to investigate the matter in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
