Adidas chair reelected to 2026 despite shareholder revolt
Adidas shareholders have approved the re-election of Chairman Thomas Rabe despite a revolt, with some investors saying Rabe had too many outside commitments and the company had not done enough to find a successor.
Shareholders at the group's annual general meeting supported his election for another year with 64.43% of votes, securing Rabe's sixth year in the role, but the margin narrowed compared to last year, when Rabe got 69% of votes.
Adidas, in the midst of a turnaround driven by CEO Bjorn Gulden, extended Rabe's mandate last year by 12 months and said it would appoint a successor in 2025.
Top investors including Allianz Global Investors rejected Rabe's reelection, saying he did not have enough time to dedicate to Adidas given his outside roles as CEO of Bertelsmann and RTL Group.
In a letter to shareholders ahead of the meeting, Rabe said the extra year would give Adidas time to ensure a smooth handover, and that his experience and collaboration with Gulden were valuable especially as US tariffs have triggered economic uncertainty.
"At the end of the 2026 Annual General Meeting, I will leave the Supervisory Board of Adidas for good," he added in the letter.
Rabe also said he would increase the proportion of women on the board, after proxy adviser Institutional Shareholders Services said Adidas' board was not sufficiently gender-diverse.

Rangers' name change post-takeover: Shift from PLC to LTD explained
The holding company of Rangers is looking to change its name following their monumental takeover, as they transition from a public to private company – pending shareholder approval later this month. Since November 2012, the Ibrox side has traded as 'The Rangers International Football Club PLC', but will now be known as 'Rangers International Football Club Limited' in the new era under chairman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers enterprises – led by vice chairman Paraag Marathe – if approved at the club's forthcoming Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for June 23 at the Doubletree Hilton in Glasgow. A 75 per cent approval is required for the vote to change to pass. Despite their PLC status, Rangers were not publicly listed on the stock exchange – they will now become an LTD, a move which ensures shares cannot be offered to the public and provides an added layer of control for the new regime. The transition to the LTD company is covered in the EGM as shareholders are informed what they are voting on. The ordinary resolutions are covered by the big announcement on Friday which covers the allotment of nominal shares, the price which has been the price set in recent years to directors investing in Ibrox, reports the Daily Record. It's a new era at the club with nine appointments to the new-look board with Cavenagh and Marathe leading the way. Patrick Stewart, Eugene Schneur, Andrew Clayton, Mark Taber, Fraser Thornton, John Halsted and George Taylor are the seven others who will play key roles.

New boss at Dr Martens planning sales reboot
The new boss of Dr Martens is to reveal his strategy to get the bootmaker back on track amid a slump in sales. The Camden-based footwear specialist will reveal its latest annual results next Thursday, and is expected to post a drop in revenues and profits. However, investors are likely to focus on a strategy update from the company which is also due that day. Shares in the firm have tumbled by more than 80% since it floated on London's stock market in early 2021. The company has been blighted by sliding sales in recent years as it has fought waning consumer demand and supply chain disruptions. Ije Nwokorie, a former brand chief of the business, took over the top role in January in a bid to help revive its fortunes. This week the company also sought to strengthen its leadership team by appointing Carla Murphy from Adidas as its new chief brand officer and former Nike director Paul Zadof as its Americas president. The appointments come as Dr Martens seeks to bring more shoppers back to the brand and target new growth opportunities. Investec analyst Kate Calvert said: "Having taken over as CEO in January and knowing the company well (previously chief brand officer and a non-executive director), we expect more of an evolutionary strategy. "We are looking to hear what the team's growth priorities are from a range, market and channel perspective, and understand the differences in strategic approach to recent history. "We also expect an update on the delivery of two crucial system projects - its customer data platform plus a supply and demand planning system." Investec has forecast that the fashion firm will report revenues of roughly £803.5m (€953m) for the year to March 31. It would represent another significant drop from £877.1m (€1.04bn) the previous year. In its previous update in January, Dr Martens pointed towards a partial recovery over the key festive period amid progress to turn around its US operation. On Thursday, the company is likely to show further progress with its direct-to-consumer business, efforts to increase cost savings and strengthening its balance sheet. Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: "Dr Martens is expected to deliver more evidence that it is pulling itself up by its bootstraps and the turnaround is lacing together. "It's been reducing inventories and debt, preserving cash and stabilising the business overall. "So there is more optimism around that Dr Martens can kick off a more sustained recovery." Shareholders will also be looking for guidance on how its important US business might be impacted by recent tariff rule changes and how the firm might mitigate any impact.
