Intercontinental Legends Championship: Maneka Gandhi and Faridi Brothers light up semis

Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 5 (ANI): The excitement at the ongoing Intercontinental Legends Championship reached a new high on Wednesday during the semifinal clashes held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, as per the press release from Intercontinental Legends Championship.
The presence of noted social worker and former Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, along with Altamash Faridi and Shadab Faridi, famed for the song 'Sultan', added star power to the occasion.
The first semifinal, which kicked off at 3:30 PM, saw a thrilling contest with more than 400 runs scored, mesmerising the spectators. Meanwhile, the arrival of the chief guests - Maneka Gandhi and the celebrated Faridi brothers--further elevated the grandeur of the event.
Speaking about the league, Maneka Gandhi said, as the Intercontinental Legends Championship press release quoted, 'This kind of tournament is a wonderful initiative that gives retired international cricket legends a chance to reconnect with their fans. Being part of such an event is truly a delightful experience for me.'
She added, 'Apart from major events like the World Cup, I rarely get time to watch cricket due to other commitments. So enjoying a match live at the stadium today has been absolutely memorable. I never imagined I'd be sitting at the ground watching a match--it truly is an incredible experience.'
Known for her inspiring personality and contributions to women's empowerment, when asked what message she'd like to give to the youth, she replied, 'There's only one thing that makes you a better human--respect for others. Always treat people with kindness.'
Adding to the energy, Shadab Faridi and Altamash Faridi, who have won hearts across India with hits like 'Sultan' and 'Ve Kamleya', also enthralled the crowd with a live performance. As soon as the Faridi brothers took to the mic and began singing 'Re Sultan', the crowd erupted with joy and enthusiasm.
Praising the league, they said, 'This is a spectacular event. Being part of a league filled with legendary players from around the world is truly unforgettable. Jaipur: History will be made when the first-ever mixed disability T20 series between India and England starts in England on Saturday (June 21) at Taunton, the home of Somerset County Cricket Club. During the landmark seven-match T20Is tour, the teams will also play a match at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on June 25. Led by Mumbai's Ravindra Gopinath Sante, India's mixed disability team arrived in London for the tour on June 15. The 16-member team, picked by the Differently abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), has prepared for the series by playing three practice matches against the England Lions Mixed Disability team at the Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club in Exeter. Virendra Singh is the vice-captain of the team, while the team's head coach is former Rajasthan captain Rohit Jhalani. Before travelling to England, the Indian team had a week-long preperatory camp at the Jaipuria Cricket Academy ground in Jaipur. The team comprises six deaf, six physical disability and four intellectual disability players. We are playing all our matches on this tour on the first-class ground of England," said Ravi Chauhan, general secretary of the DCCI. "Our preparations have been good. We are looking forward to an exciting series, which will raise the profile of mixed disability cricket," said Abhay Pratap Singh, Jt. Secretary, DCCI. In a first incident, all the seven matches of the series will be streamed live on Sony Liv. "As the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah provided us with complete support from the BCCI. We wish that as the ICC Chair, he would support this format too," Ravi Chauhan said. Before the first match at Taunton, both the teams will hold a two-minute silence and wear black armbands to pay their respects to the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. The highlight of the tour will, of course, be the third T20I at Lord's on June 25, giving India's mixed disability team the rare honour of competing at the iconic 'Home of Cricket.' The date and the venue both make for a tremendous coincidence- 42 years back, India, led by the legendary Kapil Dev, had clinched the 1983 World Cup on June 25 at Lord's in 1983. June 25 is incidentally celebrated as the 'World Mixed Disability Day.' The other standout fixture of the tour is scheduled for July 1 in Bristol, where the Indian mixed disability team will play their English counterparts, followed by a T201 between the women's teams of India and England in a double-header. 'Amazing camaraderie': Jaiswal praises skipper Shubman Gill after memorable opening day in Leeds

Leeds [UK] June 21 (ANI): India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his admiration for newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill following their crucial 129-run partnership on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. Jaiswal, who smashed a fluent 101 off 159 balls, lauded Gill's calmness and composure at the crease, describing their time together in the middle as "amazing." Speaking at the post-day press conference, the 23-year-old left-hander said, "We have spoken a lot in the middle and we were just trying to make sure that we play session by session and try as many (runs) as we can get. Paralympic Committee of India unveils logo, mascot for New Delhi World Para Athletics Championship

New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships was launched here on Friday along with the launch of the '100 Days to Go' countdown. The event was hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). A PCI release said that the newly-revealed mascot named Viraaj is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India's rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA and Chief Patron of PCI, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood were among those present. The Chief Minister said that the national capital is honoured to host a global event that celebrates courage, ability, and human potential. 'The logo and mascot beautifully reflect the soul of India and the power of para sport. We will ensure that New Delhi 2025 becomes a landmark for inclusivity and excellence,' she said.
