Girl, so surprising: pop star Lorde stuns fans by crashing theme party
New Zealand pop star Lorde has sent fans into a spin by crashing a club night party in her honour.
Sydney venue Mary's Underground hosted a night dedicated to 'our true Lorde and saviour' on May 25 with a room full of Lorde fans flooding the dancefloor before the surprise guest arrived.
Lorde reportedly snuck onto the dancefloor in disguise, but it wasn't long until her fans realised that she was in their midst.
The Grammy-winner jumped behind the decks with Sugarush DJ Emma Parke, singing along to her new release What Was That and her collaboration with Charli XCX, Girl, So Confusing.
Ms Parke was "still in disbelief" over the pop star's surprise appearance, saying the night was one that she would be talking about for years to come.
"After years of throwing events, this was one of the most rewarding nights of my life. Completely unmatched," she said on May 26.
It was reportedly Lorde's idea to crash the event, as she prepares to release a new album, Virgin, on June 27.

Star slams Madonna for disrespectful behaviour
Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Anthony Ramos is calling out Madonna for poor theatre etiquette. On Friday's episode of Watch What Happens Live, Ramos played a game of 'Clubhouse of Horrors,' during which host Andy Cohen asked him to name the 'most terrifying celebrity to spot in the audience' when he was performing in Hamilton on Broadway. 'The most terrifying was Madonna with her iPad in her face. She was like this the whole time,' he said, pretending to look down at an iPad. Anthony Ramos slammed Madonna on Watch What Happens Live for watching her iPad while watching Hamilton. The Hamilton star says he would have happily shown Madonna the door. 'I was like, 'Damn, shawty. If you're not enjoying it that much, you know the door's right there. You ain't gotta stay here!'' Ramos was famously part of the original cast of Hamilton, which made its Broadway debut in 2015. The actor, whose work on the musical earned him the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. Ramos said Madonna was the 'most terrifying' guest he has spotted in the crowd. Picture:for The Met Museum/Vogue To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical, the entire cast reunited at the 2025 Tony Awards to perform a medley of iconic songs from the play. However, fans were upset that Ramos did not have a solo in the performance. 'That was really nice that people got pissed,' he said on Watch What Happens Lives. Ramos has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Hamilton at the 2021 Emmy Awards. 'They weren't even planning on me being there,' he explained. 'They cut that part, they choreographed the whole number and then I texted Lin Saturday morning like, 'Yo, is it too late to join y'all?' He was like, 'Are you serious?' I was like, 'Yeah, I'm serious.' He was like, 'You got a black suit?' I was like, 'Nah, I could get one.'' 'So, they fit me in where I could fit in,' Ramos continued. 'There was a moment for me but they had to take it out because they didn't plan on me being there.' Lizzo reveals secret to her slimdown — and finally sets the record straight on Ozempic use
Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. It's about damn time. Lizzo has spoken about her weight loss journey - and clarified her Ozempic use - months after clapping back at rumours about the drug. 'I've tried everything,' the singer, 37, said on Trisha Paytas' Just Trish podcast on Thursday, per Page Six. The Grammy winner explained however that she abandoned the semaglutide, which has not been approved for use for weight loss in Australia, early into her journey. 'Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full,' she said. 'But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing.' Ozempic is also associated with a number of side-effects including most commonly gastrointestinal disorders like nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting, in a way that doctor-approved changes to diet and exercise are not. Lizzo opened up about her recent body transformation. Picture: Instagram She spoke candidly about losing weight. Picture: Instagram Lizzo revealed that she saw the best results when she ditched her vegan diet. 'When I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats, I was eating a lot of bread, I was eating a lot of rice and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full,' she recalled. 'When I started actually eating whole foods and eating, like, beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that [weren't] actually filling me up,' the songwriter continued. She said she tried 'everything' throughout her weight loss journey. Picture: Instagram Performing at the Brit Awards in 2020. Picture:She went on to defend those who use weightloss drugs. 'It's not easy,' Lizzo insisted. 'It's a drug to help somebody with something they're struggling with.' She added that 'telling someone they're cheating' is a 'way of being fatphobic.' According to the TGA in Australia, 'Ozempic has been included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. This means that the medicine has been evaluated by the TGA for its safety, quality and efficacy for that indication only.' Lizzo made headlines in September 2024 for hitting back at an Instagram hater questioning whether she was taking the type II diabetes drug. 'Whyyyy [sic] do u follow me?' she asked at the time. The following year, Lizzo explained that she had, instead, applied 'a calorie deficit' and cut 'sugary stuff' from her diet. 'Everybody's body is different,' she reminded her social media followers in April. 'Find out what works for you.' This article originally appeared in Page Six and was reproduced with permission.
