Jasprit Bumrah Takes 5 Wickets! Stuart Broad Says 'Brought Drama, Bowled Jaffas'

Last Updated: Mark Butcher, Ravi Shastri and Stuart Broad praised Jasprit Bumrah as his 5-wicket haul gave India a six-run lead over England in Leeds. After Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling performance secured India a six-run lead over England in the first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test, former England cricketer Mark Butcher praised him as an 'absolute champion." At Headingley on Sunday, Bumrah demonstrated why he is considered one of the world's best fast bowlers by taking an impressive 5-83—his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests—giving India a narrow first-innings lead. 'Bumrah has been utterly outstanding. Irresistible fast bowling. He is an absolute champion," said Butcher on the Sky Sports Cricket broadcast during the tea break. Bumrah, who secured his third five-wicket haul in England, has equalled the legendary Kapil Dev for the most five-wicket hauls for India in away Tests (12).'Bumrah has moved the ball more than anyone else, brought drama, bowled jaffas and deserves the fine applause he received from this crowd. But you do wonder whether he should have been brought into the attack earlier on," added former England bowler Stuart Broad. With the second innings set to decide the match's outcome, former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes the game is wide open. 'Game on – and at some pace. Over 900 runs have been scored and we still have a session to go on day three." 'It is set up beautifully and England will be happy where they are. They like a chase and if they can make inroads in the next session, which I think will be the best time for bowling, you never know." Shastri also commended Harry Brook for his impressive 99. 'Brook picks up length so well and likes to announce himself to the opposition early. He plays with audacity as well. He won't be too disappointed getting out caught at deep fine leg as on another day he will score 200 batting like that." Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul took advantage of an underwhelming England bowling attack with an opening stand of 91 runs in the first innings. However, with rain looming, former Australia women's cricketer Mel Jones discussed India's likely approach. 'The youngsters stood up in the first innings but this will be a whole new challenge as they have to figure things out. Rahul will be important as he has the game nous. Then you have Pant in the middle order who can shift the game." (With inputs from IANS)

'You Didn't Miss Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma': Ex-India Star's Big Praise For Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul

Former India opener Aakash Chopra lavished praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul for their powerful opening stand on Day 1 of the first Test against England in Leeds. The duo of Jaiswal and Rahul stitched a 91-run opening partnership and gave India a solid start after being put to bat first. Rahul was dismissed for 42 by Brydon Carse while Jaiswal completed a brilliant ton before getting bowled out by Ben Stokes. Later, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also stitched an unbeaten stand as India ended the the day at 359/3 at stumps. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra praised Jaiswal and Rahul for their knocks and stated that their performance did not let the Indian fans miss the retired duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. "The headline should be the incredible opening start. KL Rahul was once again there with Yashasvi Jaiswal, and all of us were thinking that we would miss Rohit a lot," said Chopra on his YouTube channel. "Rohit and Kohli, it felt a little odd as we were playing the first match, after so many years, where neither of them was there, but let's be very honest, you didn't miss them when the match started," he added. Chopra further stated that Jaiswal played a responsible knock while Rahul was at his usual self. "Rahul was leaving deliveries outside the off-stump. Yashasvi zimmedaar (responsible) Jaiswal, I wish to keep a name like that for him, because he was playing cautiously this time, and Rahul, of course, plays like that only, although he adopted a slightly aggressive approach," said Chopra. "The opening partnership decided that, unless you bottle it up completely, you will be in a good space," he added. A scintillating century by Jaiswal was followed by a sublime hundred on the Test-captaincy debut for Gill, before Rishabh Pant's typical pyrotechnics got him a rollicking fifty, as the trio ensured India had an absolutely dominating day in the first Test to kick-start the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley on Friday.

IND vs ENG: 'Call it the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy': Sunil Gavaskar questions naming order of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

Image credit: England Cricket NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed strong reservations over the naming of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Gavaskar argued that Sachin Tendulkar 's name should appear before James Anderson's, citing Tendulkar's seniority and vastly superior achievements in international cricket. Writing in his column for Mid-Day, Gavaskar dismissed the reasoning that names were ordered alphabetically and took particular aim at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their decision. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'The ECB is fully entitled to call the series by any name they choose but for most, if not all, Indian cricket lovers it is jarring to know that Anderson's name comes first. Not only is Sachin Tendulkar along with Kapil Dev the greatest Indian cricketer, but also senior to Anderson by more than a dozen years. He is numero uno as far as runs and centuries are concerned in Test cricket but also at the one-day level too he has more runs than anybody else,' Gavaskar wrote. The former India captain continued by underlining the disparity in accomplishments between the two cricketing icons. 'Anderson is third in the list of wicket takers in Test cricket and his record is nowhere as good as Tendulkar in one-day cricket. Tendulkar is also part of a World Cup winning team which Anderson has not been. Jimmy Anderson was a terrific bowler but mainly in English conditions and his record away is nowhere near as good as Tendulkar's is,' he added. Gavaskar also called upon Indian fans and the media to refer to the series as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, flipping the current order to reflect what he believes is the more appropriate recognition. Sitanshu Kotak press conference: Big revelation on Shubman Gill In the same column, Gavaskar offered suggestions regarding the Pataudi Medal of Excellence, which is currently awarded to the captain of the series-winning team. He questioned the logic behind that structure. 'Why the captain and what if the series is drawn? That's why it would have been better to have had a Pataudi medal for the man of the match for every Test, culminating in the Pataudi Trophy for the player of the series. This way, the Pataudis will be remembered after every Test match played as well as after the series is finished in England,' Gavaskar remarked.
