Kerala Startup Mission signs agreement to support agri tech startups and farmers

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has inked a performance-based condition (PBC) agreement with agriculture department's KERA project to provide innovative solutions tailored to the needs of local farmers and agri-food enterprises. Under this PBC agreement, KSUM will select 150 agri-tech startups across the state to address specific challenges. This is intended to benefit at least 40,000 farmers. KERA is a World Bank-funded project under investment project financing for the agriculture sector of the state. The PBC framework represents an innovative, results-driven approach to funding allocation. In this model, funds or payments to the implementing agency are disbursed only after achieving predefined results. KSUM CEO Anoop Ambika said that this performance-oriented strategy not only encourages optimal performance but also allows the implementing agency considerable autonomy in how to utilise funds to meet set targets. It promotes greater accountability by directing resources to frontline operations, enabling decision-making and strategic resource allocation based on real-time performance indicators. Selected startups will receive a grant of Rs 25 lakh each. An initial grant of Rs 20 lakh will be allocated for product development (PBC1), which covers idea development (innovation/seed fund), research and development, product testing, technology commercialisation, production, scaling up existing facilities, working capital for business operations and other related activities. The subsequent grant of Rs 5 lakh will support product adoption by end users (PBC2), addressing product demonstration, market testing, pilot product launch, sales and marketing and other related activities.

Kolkata metro railway using sustainable braking technology to reduce carbon emissions: Official

The Kolkata metro railway has started using a sustainable braking technology in its rakes, as part of its quest to reduce carbon emissions and save energy costs, an official said on Sunday. All the new rakes that are being introduced in the city's rapid transit system feature ' Regenerative Braking ', he said. "The technology allows a train's electric motors to operate in reverse (like a generator) during braking, leading to conversion of the train's kinetic energy back into electrical energy, rather than wasting it in the form of heating of wheels or brake shoes," a Metro Railway Kolkata spokesperson said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Click Here) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo At present, the Kolkata metro railway operates 37 rakes with regenerative braking features. "The total energy regenerated in the year 2024-25 - by usage of the system in 37 rakes - has been 1.08 crore units, which have saved around Rs 8.2 crore in energy cost," he said. Live Events Regenerative braking has reduced carbon emissions by 13,500 tonnes in the previous financial year, the official said. In a study conducted by Metro Railway Kolkata, it has been observed that 17-20 per cent regeneration of electricity is possible, he said. "This is a step forward for saving energy and reducing the use of fossil fuel. Urban metro systems like those in London, Tokyo and New York also use regenerative braking," the spokesperson said. "The unique advanced 'Regenerative Braking System' technology reduces wear and tear of brake, wheel, brake disc as well as maintenance costs," he said. In another green initiative, Metro Railway Kolkata has taken up the work of setting up a 4-MW 'Advanced Chemical Cell (ACC)' battery storage system, "which is the first of its kind in Indian Railways ". The batteries have arrived and the system is expected to be operational in the middle of July, 2025, he added.

Gujarat CM Patel announces Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 22 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced the Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025 (GECMS-2025), further strengthening Gujarat's identity as a policy-driven state under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Aimed at transforming Gujarat into a global hub for electronics manufacturing, this new policy brings a significant advantage: projects approved and supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, will be eligible for 100 per cent central assistance when established in Gujarat. Hence, MeitY-approved projects set up in the state will receive dual incentive benefits, one from the Central Government and another from the State Government according to a press release. Thoroughly aligned with the Central Government's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), Gujarat's GECMS-2025 ensures a 100 per cent top-up on central support and guarantees timely disbursement of assistance. Also, once a project receives approval under the ECMS from MeitY, it will automatically become eligible for the same grant-in-aid in Gujarat. The State Government will disburse its incentive within 30 days of the Central Government releasing its assistance. Gujarat has established itself as a leading manufacturing and automobile hub in India's industrial landscape. With four semiconductor plants now operational in the state, the newly announced policy will further strengthen the upstream industries. This development will reduce import dependency and improve technological resilience. The policy aims to attract over Rs 35,000 crore in new investments and create substantial high-skilled employment opportunities within the state's electronics component manufacturing sector. Unveiled by the Chief Minister, the policy will boost investment in key segments such as multi-layer and HDI printed circuit boards, lithium-ion cells, SMD passive components, display and camera modules, electronic parts, and the additional required machinery essential for their production. A core focus of the policy is to bridge the talent gap, promote innovation and offer support for Research and development initiatives. Recognised institutions based in Gujarat will be eligible for assistance of up to Rs 12.5 crore from the state government to establish Centres of Excellence, Finishing Schools, or Applied Research Laboratories. Additionally, under the GECMS, turnover-linked incentives will be provided for six years. (ANI)
