India ramps up diplomatic offensive against Pak

Hans India10-05-2025

New rastructure but Islamabad has chosen to continue to escalate the matter instead of taking an "off-ramp" to end the crisis.
Tensions between India and Pakistan soared significantly following India's Operation Sindoor on early Wednesday in response to the Pahalgam attack on April 22 that had cross-border linkages and Pakistan's subsequent unsuccessful attempt to attack 15 Indian cities. "April 22 was the most heinous terrorist act,' Kwatra said in an interview with CNN on Thursday.
"It is nobody's case to say that these terrorists should be given a free pass, and that's precisely what we did, held them accountable,' Kwatra said and described India's action as 'a very precise, calibrated, measured response to these terrorists.' 'We are at war with the terrorists, and we will, as I said, bring justice to the victims and hold them accountable,' he said, answering a question if India is at war with Pakistan.
'Our foremost objective in this was (to) hold these lowlifes, subhuman monsters accountable and bring justice to the victims.'
India's High Commissioner to the UK Doraiswami, who was interviewed by a series of UK media outlets on Thursday to present India's stance on the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, told 'Sky News' that the international community can intervene by pointing out the opportunity for an off-ramp to Pakistan. He displayed an image live on air of US-designated Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist Abdur Rauf leading prayers for the terrorists killed in Operation Sindoor, also presented during a briefing by Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry in New Delhi.

Iranian media threatens US after strikes on nuclear sites: ‘Every American is a legitimate target'

The United States' coordinated airstrikes on Iran's key nuclear facilities — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — have ignited a new wave of hostilities, with Iranian state media declaring that 'every American citizen and soldier in the region' is now a 'legitimate target.' The remarks came hours after President Donald Trump authorised the high-profile assault as part of Operation Midnight Hammer, signaling a major escalation in US-Iran-Israel tensions. During a broadcast on IRIB, Iran's state television network, a commentator as per multiple reports warned of retaliation, saying: 'You started it, and we'll finish it.' A map showing major US military bases in the Middle East was aired simultaneously, including facilities in Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the UAE. The warning continued: 'The battle has just begun, Mr. Trump! Now you talk of peace? We will deal with you in a way that makes you understand the consequences of recklessness.' Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a condemnation and threat of retaliation: 'The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear installations.' He added: 'Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.' Iran acknowledged that the nuclear enrichment sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan were struck. Despite Iran's claim of 'peaceful nuclear development,' the facilities had been enriching uranium at levels near weapons-grade, according to the IAEA. Amid growing concerns of a broader regional war, the Trump administration signaled a willingness to return to the negotiating table with Iran. 'Let's meet directly,' said Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with CBS. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the sentiment, telling reporters that the US 'does not seek war.' However, Tehran dismissed the overture, declaring that the window for diplomacy had closed and reaffirming its right to self-defense. President Donald Trump warned that any Iranian retaliation against US forces would trigger further strikes. With tens of thousands of American troops stationed across the Middle East, Trump issued a stark ultimatum: 'There will either be peace, or there will be tragedy for Iran.' The strikes were carried out without prior congressional approval.

PM Modi receives call from Iran President; calls for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy

New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Amid the US joining the Israeli attacks on Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who briefed him on the current situation. PM Modi, while expressing concern at the escalation, called for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward for restoration of regional peace and security. In a post on X, the PM said: 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. 'We discussed in detail about the current situation. 'Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' A readout of the call, said that PM Modi 'received a telephone call from the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian today'. "President Pezeshkian briefed PM in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region, especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. "PM expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations. PM conveyed that India was on the side of peace and humanity. In this context, PM emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. He reiterated India's support for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability. 'Prime Minister thanked President Pezeshkian for the continued support being extended for safe return and repatriation of the Indian community. The two leaders reiterated shared commitment to continue to work for strengthening bilateral cooperation in different areas including trade and economic cooperation, Science & Technology and people-to-people ties. 'They agreed to remain in touch.' The call between the two leaders came as US President Donald Trump said he had 'obliterated' Iran's main nuclear sites in strikes overnight, joining an Israeli assault in a major new escalation of conflict in the Middle East, even as Tehran vowed to defend itself. Iran termed the US attack a grave violation of international law that would have 'everlasting consequences'. 'Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest and people,' wrote Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in a social media post, noting that the Israeli and US attacks on Iran came despite ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.
