CM Naidu, Min Lokesh laud Andhra Pradesh NEET toppers

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and HRD and IT Minister extended warm congratulations to students from the Telugu States who secured top ranks in the NEET-UG 2025 examination.
Taking to X, they praised the hard work and excellence demonstrated by the young aspirants.
Naidu posted, 'Hearty congratulations to all the medical students who passed NEET UG 2025. Well done! Students from both Telugu State have done exceedingly well. Kudos to Kakarla Jeevan Sai Kumar from Telangana for securing the 18th rank, and Darba Karthikram from AP for securing the 19th rank.'
Lokesh posted, 'I congratulate six students from the State for securing ranks in the top 100 in the results of the national-level NEET UG exam for admissions to medical courses. My heartfelt congratulations to D Karthik Ram Kiriti (19th rank), K Mohita Sriram (56th), D Suryacharan (59th), P Avinash (64th), Y Sameer Kumar (70th), and T Shivamanideep (92nd).

After TCS, AP govt allots land to Cognizant in Vizag

Vijayawada: Continuing its aggressive incentive policy stand, Andhra Pradesh govt has decided to allot land to another IT major, Cognizant Technology Solutions , at 99 paisa per acre in Visakhapatnam. The 21.31 acres will be allotted at Kapuluppada area in the city. The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), in its recent meeting, approved the proposal of Cognizant to invest Rs 1,583 crore in its new ITES/IT campus. The state govt earlier allotted about 21 acres to another IT services major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), at 99 paisa per acre. The new campus of TCS is likely to be launched by the end of July. TCS has promised to provide 12,000 jobs. IT minister Nara Lokesh earlier announced that the govt is ready to give land to top IT companies at the same price as that of TCS if they come up with a promise of creating employment opportunities for local youth. "The state govt is committed to turn Visakhapatnam into the IT capital of Andhra Pradesh and a new investment destination for companies. To kick off the investment cycle rolling, a trigger is needed, and TCS will be that moment," Lokesh said earlier, justifying the allotment of land at almost free of cost to TCS. The discussions with Cognizant were initiated during the World Economic Forum summit in Davos. According to sources, Cognizant is planning its investment in three phases. The company has set a target of March 2029 for commencement of commercial operations. The project will be 100% self-funded. Together, TCS and Cognizant will bring 20,000 IT jobs to Visakhapatnam. Apart from direct employment, every job in the IT sector is expected to create indirect employment for four people. Besides TCS and Cognizant, Google is also planning to set shop in Visakhapatnam, which, according to sources, will be another major turning point in creating a whole ecosystem in new and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and data centres.

Karnataka High Court stays new tender invited for collection of waste in Bengaluru

Observing that 'there is a breach of the undertaking given to the court earlier', the High Court of Karnataka has stayed the new tender invited by the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) on May 28 for collection and transportation of city's garbage. The court noted that on April 22, it gave permission to the State government and the BSWML to continue with the tender invited on November 7, 2024, but both the government and the BSWML, instead of continuing that tender, have now come out with a new tender. Contrary to undertaking Inviting new tender with new clauses is contrary to the undertaking given to the court by the State Advocate General, who had assured the court that the November 7, 2024, tender would be continued and would be taken to its logical conclusion by allowing participation of those contractors, who were either disqualified or their bids were rejected and have filed petitions before the court, to participate in the tender, the court noted. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the interim order on the petition filed by Bengaluru Mahanagara Swachate Mattu Lorry Malikara Hagoo Guthigedarara Sangha. It has been pointed out in the petition that the government, in its May 26 approval granted for floating a new tender, , imposed a condition that BSWML has to take permission from the minister in charge of the department instead of continuing the 2024 tender. This condition, the petitioner-sangha has claimed, is a clear violation of the provisions of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act. During the hearing, the court expressed serious displeasure with the A-G on the conduct of the State government in breaching the undertaking given to the court earlier.

Omar Abdullah accuses Mehbooba, Lone of 'political hypocrisy' over reservation issue

Facing outcry for dragging his feet on rationalising reservation quota in government jobs, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday (June 20, 2025) accused the Opposition parties, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and J&K People's Conference (JKPC) chairman Sajjad Lone of 'political hypocrisy'. Referring to Ms. Mufti and Mr. Lone, Mr. Abdullah said these leaders had the opportunity to raise the matter earlier but 'chose to remain silent for political convenience'. 'Why didn't Ms. Mufti speak about it when she was contesting elections from Anantnag and seeking support in Rajouri and Poonch? She needed votes and did not allow even her party members to speak about reservation. Mr. Lone was closely aligned with the government for five years. While we were being thrown out of government accommodations and our security was being downgraded, he comfortably stayed in a government house. Why didn't he speak about reservations then?' Mr. Abdullah asked. Mr. Abdullah's party had promised to rationalise the quota during the Assembly elections last year. This week, a Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) mandated to suggest recommendations filed its report. However, the government move to send the report to the Law Department for legal vetting is being perceived by the Opposition as 'dilly dallying tactics'. Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra termed the 'withholding of the subcommittee report a violation of democratic principles'. 'There is no room for secrecy in a democracy. Institutions must draw legitimacy from transparency, not concealment. The report directly impacts the future of the region's youth and should be made public without delay,' he said. Reacting to Mr. Abdullah's remarks, Ms. Mufti said, 'As Chief Minister, I ensured that 75% is reserved for open merit when some issue of NEET and other PG exams came up. I never sent the reservation to the Law Department. Now Omar sahib is pinning blame on others. Didn't he promise to resolve this issue?' Jammu and Kashmir's reservation quota was revised under the Central rule after new categories like Paharis, Paddari Tribe, Koli and Gadda Brahmin etc. were included in 2024. The open merit category was reduced significantly less than 40%. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister opposed any proposal to divert waters from Jammu and Kashmir to any other nearby State. 'I will never permit this. Our people in Jammu are already facing drought-like conditions. Why should we divert our water to Punjab? They already get water under the Indus Water Treaty. Did they ever share water with us when we needed it?' he said. On the restoration of Statehood, Mr. Abdullah said he pins hopes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment. 'The promise hasn't been fulfilled yet,' he added.
