Buccaneers legend has a unique choice for the Bucs most impactful rookie

USA Today17 hours ago

Everyone has talked about the Bucs' top draft, Emeka Egbuka, and how he is going to be the future of the passing attack when Mike Evans retires.
While everyone is focusing on Egbuka, or cornerbacks Jacob Parrish and Benjamin Morrison, a Bucs legend is highlighting another. Ronde Barber, who knows a thing or two about high-level defensive play as a Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback, discussed on his show the most impactful Bucs rookie in 2025.
His answer was surprising.
Barber explained, "Our No. 1 impact rookie, you might not believe this — it is David Walker, I didn't know anything about him until we picked him, and then you go and look at what he did... when you put the film on, you're like, 'Holy cow, this dude has the mentality.' It's kinda like this underdog mentality that makes people respect him."
David Walked is everything and more than what Barber explained on his show. He never stuffed the box score, but what he did time and again was create pressure on the offenses.
The Bucs have had a great time of having players transition from edge rushers in college to interior defenders. Walker is the latest to get that move inside, and he could have a chance to create some chaos within Todd Bowles' system.

Michael Irvin Pulling For Deion Sanders After Home Visit

Michael Irvin Pulling For Deion Sanders After Home Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Deion Sanders has said he'll be returning to Boulder ahead of the Colorado Buffaloes 2025 season. However, there is no timeline on when as he continues to deal with an unknown health issue at his estate in Texas. Advertisement Sanders got a visit from his Pro Football Hall of Fame teammate Michael Irvin last week. The Dallas Cowboys legend spoke briefly on Coach Prime's health during an episode of his podcast after seeing him. "Whenever I'm with him, we laugh like I don't know what," Irvin said. "This is my boy. I battled with this dude. I know how strong this dude is. I know how he is. He's physically strong, mentally strong, emotionally strong. He's strong. And we've had battles, and I respect him as a giant." Sanders has dealt with notable health issues over the past five years. He hasn't been at full strength, but Irvin left feeling confident Sanders will be back on track soon. "I've never seen Deion not want to battle," Irvin said. "I guarantee you he's going to be ok. That's the most important part." Irvin didn't explain what's going on with Sanders and will allow him to tell the world when's ready. Not much is known about what Coach Prime might be dealing with and it's unclear whether this latest round is related to the series of previous health issues, including blood clots in his lower extremities. Advertisement Sanders admitted to former NFL defensive back Asante Samuel that his latest illness caused him to lose 14 pounds. 'What I'm dealing with right now is a whole other level," Sanders said. NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: Justin Joly, TE, NC State

Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay. Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans. So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall. Player Information Player: Justin Joly School: NC State Height/Weight: 6-3/235 lbs. Player Background - 2-Star Recruit - Transfer from UConn - 2024 Preseason Mackey Award Watchlist Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 117 Receptions - 1,489 Receiving Yards - 12.7 Yards Per Reception - 8 Touchdowns Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 73.5 PFF Receiving Grade - 62.4 PFF Blocking Grade - 6.2 Yards per Reception After Contact - 1.79 Yards Per Route Run - Average Depth of Target 8.6 Yards - 26 Contested Catches Player Traits - Good release off the line - Tracks the ball well in the air - Makes contested catches - Good burst and ball carrier vision - Footwork and hips allow separation Player Summary Justin Joly does not have the typical appearance of a tight end when you see him on film or on screen. He lines up both in-line and out, and NC State gets the most out of him that way. He demonstrates good movement abilities with and without the ball in his hands due to his footwork and hip speed. On top of that, the way he attacks the ball in the air and makes contested catches will make him a fun watch this fall and beyond. He may not be a top-end tight end prospect when the draft rolls around, but do not doubt his playmaking ability for a second.

Buccaneers Get Robbed in Top Receivers Rankings

Buccaneers Get Robbed in Top Receivers Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers know how special their receiving room is, and yet they keep looking to bolster it with young talent. Advertisement With the addition of first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka, can the Buccaneers claim the best receiving room in the league? That is the question many people have been asking this offseason. Pro Football Focus took on ranking the NFL's top receiving corps', and the Buccaneers were rightfully viewed at the very top. Only the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles were ranked ahead of Tampa Bay this offseason. "It was a coin flip between the Buccaneers and the Eagles for the top spot, as they earned equal 79.1 PFF receiving grades in 2024," PFF wrote. "But Philadelphia's top pass-catching options all placed ahead of their Tampa Bay counterparts in PFF's position rankings." Surprisingly, the Buccaneers' receiving room was ranked behind the Eagles. Philadelphia's depth is significantly weaker than people understand. Advertisement Their third-best receiver, Jahan Dotson, didn't get many touches last season. It's far different than Tampa Bay's group. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and now Egbuka are a far better collective group than the Eagles have. Even with Brown and Smith healthy and among the league's more dominant duos, depth is incredibly important. McMillan and Egbuka would be better third options in Philly's receiving room. Dotson would be fighting for a roster spot with Tampa Bay. It's why PFF should have ranked Tampa Bay ahead of the champs in this regard.
