Man stabbed to death as minor altercation leads to violent clash in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly (UP), May 31 (PTI) A minor altercation escalated into a violent clash in this Uttar Pradesh district on Saturday evening, resulting in a 30-year-old man getting killed, police said.
During the altercation, a man, identified as Ameer from one of the factions, allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Arshad, leaving him critically injured, police sources said.
Superintendent of Police (SP), City, Manush Pareek said, 'An investigation has been launched into the matter. Police teams are conducting raids at potential hideouts in search of the absconding accused, Ameer. He will be arrested soon.' Locals rushed Arshad to a nearby private hospital.
However, despite the best efforts of doctors, Arshad succumbed to his injuries.
The news of Arshad's death triggered commotion in the area, with a large crowd gathering outside the hospital.
Police have taken the body into custody for post-mortem and deployed personnel in the area to maintain law and order. PTI COR CDN RC

PMLA court grants bail to aide of Dawood's brother
MUMBAI: A special court constituted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) has granted bail to Israd Sayyed, an aide of Iqbal Kaskar, the younger brother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, in connection with a money laundering case. The builder had filed an FIR at the Kasarvadavali police station, claiming that Kaskar's associates made repeated visits and continued to pressurise him. Based on the FIR, the ED initiated a money laundering investigation on September 26, 2017, and filed a chargesheet in 2022. Sayyed's advocate submitted that he is innocent and has committed no crime. The defence stated that he was acquitted under the original MCOCA case based on which the ED case was registered. Relying on the ground of parity, the defence argued that Kaskar has already been granted bail by the high court in the same case. The prosecution argued that Sayyed cannot avail the ground of parity as he threatened Mehta and extorted one flat and ₹ 20 lakhs from him. The court observed that the role of Sayyed is similar to that of Kaskar, who was released on bail by the high court. The court said that Sayyed is also acquitted in the MCOCA case, which is the predicate offence. The special sessions judge, Mahesh K Jadhav, in an order passed on June 16, said, 'The applicant is also in jail for a long time,' and held that Sayyed is entitled to be released on bail on the grounds of parity.

Court calls for former RPF constable's medical report
Jun 21, 2025 08:24 AM IST Mumbai: A sessions court has called for the medical report of Chetan Singh Chaudhary, a former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable accused of shooting dead four passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express on the night of July 31, 2023. Chaudhary's plea for bail citing 'temporary insanity' was rejected in December 2023. The sessions court had called for Chaudhary's medical report earlier too, on May 23. But it was never submitted as the judge hearing the case got transferred and the court was without a judge. Friday saw the resumption of court proceedings in the trial after a gap of almost a month. Chaudhary's trial commenced last November, when he was lodged in Akola Central Jail and attended court proceedings via video conferencing. In February this year, finding his behavior odd, the Akola jail authorities took him to Akola Central Hospital, where doctors advised that he be taken to Thane Mental Hospital for a proper examination. The 34-year-old former constable has been in Thane Mental Hospital since February 20. On March 12, the court ordered a stop to the trial since Chaudhary could not be present even through video conferencing. Four witnesses, including two RPF constables on duty with him that night, have so far testified. With a new judge having taken over, the court on Friday ordered that Choudhary's medical report be presented in court by the next date, July 3.

Gangster carrying Rs 1 lakh bounty killed in encounter with UP STF
Lucknow, Jun 20 (PTI) A gangster carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head was killed in an encounter with the Noida Unit of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Bulandshahr on Saturday, officials said. Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said, 'The criminal has been identified as Vinod Gaderia. He was critically injured during the exchange of fire and rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he succumbed.' Gaderia had been wanted since 2024 in over six cases of dacoity in Muzaffarnagar.
