Police cite technical fault for unlit patrol car

JOHOR BARU: Police said a technical failure had rendered a patrol vehicle immobile after a viral Facebook video showed a man confronting two policemen over the car, which was parked without warning lights outside a sports complex in the early hours of the morning.
The 12-second clip, uploaded on Facebook, showed a man questioning the policemen about the presence of their stalled police vehicle.
"The technical failure caused all external and signal lights, including the beacon, to shut down, rendering the vehicle immobile," Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said.
"While awaiting maintenance support, a man driving a private vehicle stopped, approached the officers, and began questioning their presence and recording the exchange.
Despite the officers explaining the situation, he continued to provoke them before driving off," he added.
The incident occurred at around 4am while two policemen from the Taman Setia Indah police station were on a routine crime prevention patrol. Their Proton Waja mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) broke down due to a wiring malfunction.
