Dept. Q is on track for a second season. In this article, we're sharing everything we know about it, including plot details, returning characters, and the possible release date.
The crime drama, which is exclusive to Netflix, debuted 29 May. It stars Matthew Goode as Carl Morck, a disillusioned detective in Scotland tasked with tracking down a woman who's been missing for four years.
If that wasn't enough, Morck has to deal with the trauma from a shooting that paralyses his partner and leaves a rookie cop dead. The series' title comes from his newly established Department Q, an underfunded division established to sift through cold cases.

So, has Dept. Q Season 2 been greenlit, and if so, when will it be coming out? Read on for the full details.
Will There Be a Dept. Q Season 2?
No, Dept. Q has not been officially confirmed. However, it's a near certainty. For starters, showrunner Scott Frank has gone on record as saying he wants to do more.
"I've got a great idea for a second season," Frank tells Collider. "It is another cold case and also a current case, at the same time, that they're looking into. So, I would do that."
That suggests talks regarding the show's future are happening behind closed doors. It's likely Dept Q. Season 2 is currently in pre-production.
There's also the fact Netflix submitted Dept. Q for Emmy consideration. Streamers don't do that unless they are supremely confident in their product. While it's up against equally prestigious shows in The Pitt, Severance, Andor, and The White Lotus, even being mentioned in the same breath is a huge badge of honor.
Finally, the show is based on a bestselling book series by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. That means there are more stories to tell.
Dept. Q season 2 Release date
There is no release date yet for Dept. Q Season 2. However, all signs suggest Netflix is currently working on it in secret. So, when can we expect it to drop?
Realistically, Dept Q. Season 2 looks set to release in mid-2026 at the earliest. That leaves time to write the script and shoot in 2025, then enter into post-production in early 2026.
Netflix managed to make and release the first season in just over a year. Filming kicked off in February 2024, and the nine-episode series premiered 15 months later in May 2025.
Dept. Q Reviews
Dept Q. received hugely favourable reviews. It's currently got a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 86% critic score.
It's also got strong international appeal, being based on a Nordic noir series. With possible awards on the way, everything points to a second season of Dept Q.
Dept Q. Season 2 Story
Dept Q. Season 2 will likely adapt the second novel in Adler-Olsen's series, The Absent One. It centres on an elite boarding school hiding some dark secrets, with a disturbing double murder for the detectives to unravel.

'Toxic Avenger' Reboot Trailer Shows Best Look at Peter Dinklage's Toxie
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The red band trailer for "The Toxic Avenger" reboot is here and it gives us our best look yet at Peter Dinklage as Toxie, the eponymous hero. It also delivers plenty of dark laughs and gore. You can watch the trailer below. Read More: Ryan Reynolds' 'Dragon's Lair' Netflix Movie Recruits 'Muppets' Director The official synopsis for "The Toxic Avenger" reads, "When a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, he's transformed into a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger." "Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community. In a world where greed runs rampant... justice is best served radioactive." Toxie in "The Toxic Avenger". Toxie in "The Toxic Avenger". Troma Entertainment Inc. While Dinklage provides the voice for Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro does the body work for the toxic superhero. Speaking about the new Toxie suit, filmmaker Macon Blair said, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the 'Toxic Crusaders' cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie's design. I love what Millenium FX did with it — part human, part mutant, all heart." Taylour Paige plays JJ Doherty in the film, an investigative journalist who is looking to expose the company Gooze works for and bring them to justice. Jacob Tremblay plays Winston's stepson, Wade. Kevin Bacon plays chemical industrialist Bob Garbinger while Elijah Wood plays his younger brother, Fritz. Macon Blair, who wrote and directed "The Toxic Avenger" reboot, previously collaborated with Wood on his feature directorial debut, 2017's "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore." The reboot has been in the works for over a decade, but thankfully for Troma fans, things have changed since development began. The plan was originally to turn the "Toxic Avenger" reboot into a PG-13 action comedy. Blair has instead stuck to the splatter spirit of the original. "The Toxic Avenger" hits theaters on August 29. The film is written and directed by Macon Blair. "The Toxic Avenger" stars Peter Dinklage, Luisa Guerreiro, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood and Jane Levy. James Gunn Confirms Three 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Actors Appear in 'Superman'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Some directors are known for working with the same actors multiple times, and "Superman" writer/director James Gunn is definitely one of those filmmakers. So it should come as little surprise that at least three "Guardians of the Galaxy" actors make cameos in the upcoming "Superman". Read More: Kevin Smith Is Writing A New 'Daredevil' Story Speaking to Buzzfeed Australia, James Gunn let the proverbial cat out of the bag about the three "Guardians" cameos. "I will give you something that nobody knows, but Pom Klementieff is one of the robots," Gunn revealed. "It's Bradley [Cooper] and then it's also Pom and Michael Rooker is another one of the robots." Chris Pratt as Peter Quill in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3." Chris Pratt as Peter Quill in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3." DISNEY Fans will remember Pom Klementieff plays the antennae-wielding empath Mantis who first appears in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and is ultimately revealed to be Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) half-sister. Michael Rooker plays the Ravager Yondu in the first two films, while Bradley Cooper has been the voice of Rocket Raccoon in all of his "Guardians" and "Avengers" appearances. In case you're confused about what robots Gunn is referring to: the three "Guardians" actors, along with Alan Tudyk, are voicing the Kryptonian robots who stand guard over Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Asked about "Guardians" actors Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, Gunn said he was "keeping them in the wings." Technically, we already knew about one "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor appearing in "Superman". Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in the DC blockbuster, appears in both the first and third "Guardians" features. He would have appeared in the second, but his cameo was sadly cut. We already know Fillion's time as Guy Gardner will be longer than anything he did in the "Guardians" franchise. Along with "Superman", he's been confirmed to play Gardner in Season 2 of "Peacemaker" and Season 1 of "Lanterns". The fact that Klementieff, Cooper, and Rooker add their voices to "Superman" doesn't cut them out of future DC Studios appearances, either. In fact, we already know Rooker will appear again. Along with playing Savant in 2021's "The Suicide Squad", Rooker will play the eagle hunter Red St. Wild in the upcoming Season 2 of "Peacemaker". "Superman" releases in theaters on July 11. Tickets are on sale now. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
