In a significant development in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam, the CBI has accessed fresh audio-visual evidence that could unravel deeper layers of the alleged conspiracy.
While the CBI has remained tight-lipped about the precise contents of these recordings, sources familiar with the investigation said the material includes conversations that shed light on how the scam was orchestrated and personally overseen by former state Education Minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee.
The audio-visual content, according to sources, details how various stages of the recruitment fraud were planned and executed, implicating both senior officials of the WBSSC and representatives of NYSA, the private firm contracted to manage and preserve Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets for recruitment examinations.

In light of this new evidence, the CBI has approached a special court in Kolkata seeking permission to collect voice samples of five individuals named in the chargesheet. These samples will be used to verify whether the voices heard in the recordings match those of the suspects. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for June 12, when the court will decide whether to allow the agency to proceed.Among the five individuals, three were formerly associated with the WBSSC, while the remaining two worked with NYSA. Investigators believe that the new material not only strengthens the case against Partha Chatterjee -- already identified by both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as the principal architect of the scam -- but also helps establish the operational nexus between key players in the commission and the private vendor.On April 30, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose granted prosecution sanction against both Partha Chatterjee and Manik Bhattacharya, a Trinamool MLA and former president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE), in connection with the ED's case.While Bhattacharya is currently out on bail, Chatterjee remains behind bars as investigations continue to uncover the breadth of the alleged scam that rocked the state's education recruitment system.

Wanted in cheating case, Surat man held at Ahmedabad airport after extradition from Dubai
Absconding since 2022 in a cheating and fraud case, a Surat-based man was arrested by the CBI at the Ahmedabad International Airport on Friday after being deported from Dubai. The accused was returned as a deportee from the UAE after a Red Corner Notice was issued against him, police said. On Saturday, Surat Economic Offence Wing (EOW) officials were handed over the custody of the accused, Upavan Pavan Jain. The operation was carried out by the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) and the CBI in collaboration with National Central Bureau (NCB)-Abu Dhabi. Sources said Upavan was earlier geo-located in the UAE after a close follow-up by the CBI in collaboration with INTERPOL and NCB-Abu Dhabi. In 2022, a case was registered against Adajan in Surat for Upavan's alleged involvement in cheating by personation, dishonestly inducing the delivery of property, forgery of valuable securities, and criminal conspiracy. According to the CBI press release, Upavan conspired with the co-accused to forge documents and cheat the complainant. The accused, who was working as a real estate agent at the time, showed four different properties to the complainant and managed to convince him to buy the properties through him, said the release. He had his accomplices assume dummy identities of actual property owners and, based on forged documents, opened bank accounts in the latter's name, it added. This way, he defrauded the complainant to the tune of Rs 3.66 crore, said the release. The CBI got a Red Corner Notice published against Upavan on June 6, 2023, through INTERPOL on the request of the Gujarat Police. Upavan was arrested in the UAE after which an extradition request was sent by the ministry concerned. On March 23, 2022, Gyanchand Jain, a resident of Adajan area in Surat, had lodged a complaint against Upavan, a resident of Pal Bhata Road in the city and a native of Rajasthan, along with Harilal Gondaliya, Arif Pathan, Naresh Vadher, and four unknown persons. The offence was committed between 2019 and 2021, it was alleged. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Eco Cell, G A Sarvaiya said, 'Upavan has been absconding since 2022. We have issued a Red Corner Notice against him. In this case, eight accused have been arrested till date. We are questioning Upavan to get more details.'

CBI arrests accused in minors' sexual assault case from Mathura
Lucknow: The CBI arrested an accused from Mathura in connection with a case involving the sexual assault of minor children and the possession and dissemination of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Saturday. The accused arrested was identified as Shyam Bihari. A case was registered suo-moto on June 17 against the accused from Mathura on serious allegations, including the creation, collection, storage and uploading of CSAM depicting minors in explicit sexual acts. The accused was also in possession of pornographic content involving children, in violation of laws. Searches were conducted on June 19 at the residence of the accused, resulting in the seizure of incriminating electronic devices. Subsequent forensic analysis uncovered a substantial volume of CSAM in the form of images and videos. These materials were corroborated with data from Interpol's International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database, as well as Cyber Tipline Reports (CTRs) generated by Google.

CBI arrests UP man for raping minors, recording, sharing sexual assault videos
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a man from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, in a case involving the sexual assault of minors and the possession and circulation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).The CBI registered the suo moto case on 17 June 2025, based on grave allegations against the accused. These include the creation, collection, storage, and online sharing of CSAM depicting minors in explicit and abusive 19 June 2025, the agency conducted searches on the accused's home in Mathura. During the search, officials seized several electronic devices containing objectionable content. Forensic analysis of these devices revealed a large amount of CSAM in the form of images and videos. The material was cross-verified with INTERPOL's International Child Sexual Exploitation Database and Cyber Tipline Reports (CTRs) generated by Google. These reports were shared with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home investigation uncovered disturbing evidence. According to officials, the digital content showed minors being raped, sexually assaulted, harassed, and threatened. The accused had also taken obscene photographs of the victims. All these incidents reportedly took place in CBI identified, located, and rescued the minors shown in the videos and images.
