Netanyahu says Israel's military campaign against Iran has ‘three main objectives'

Al Arabiya4 days ago

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin said on Monday Israel was 'pursuing three main objectives' with its military campaign against Iran, adding that Israel is 'changing the face of the Middle East.'
Speaking at a press conference in which he outlined Israel's strikes against Iranian nuclear and military targets, Netanyahu said Israel was 'pursuing three main objectives: the elimination of the nuclear program, the elimination of ballistic missile production capability, and the elimination of the axis of terrorism,' referring to Iranian-backed militant groups in the Middle East.
'We will do what is necessary to achieve these goals, and we are well coordinated with the United States,' he said.
Netanyahu said Israel was 'changing the face of the Middle East' with its military campaign against Iran which could lead to 'radical changes' in the country.
'We are changing the face of the Middle East and that can lead to radical changes inside Iran itself,' he said.
After decades of enmity and a prolonged shadow war, Israel on Friday launched a surprise aerial campaign against targets across Iran.
Iran has launched several waves of missiles in retaliation at Israel, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict.
'We have eliminated Iran's security leadership, including three chiefs of staff, the commander of their air force, two intelligence chiefs,' Netanyahu added.
'We are eliminating them, one after the other.'
Netanyahu asserted that Iranians perception of their government had changed.
'They understand that the regime is much weaker than they thought – they realize it, and that could lead to results,' he said.
Israel's strikes have so far killed at least 224 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians, according to Iranian authorities.
The Israeli prime minister's office says 24 people have been killed in Iranian attacks since Friday.

Israeli defense minister warns Hezbollah against joining conflict with Iran

JERUSALEM: Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Lebanon's Hezbollah to exercise caution on Friday, saying Israel's patience with 'terrorists' who threaten it had worn thin. The head of Iran-backed Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, said on Thursday that the Lebanese group would act as it saw fit in the face of what he called 'brutal Israeli-American aggression' against Iran. In other statements, the group has made no explicit pledge to join the fighting and a Hezbollah official told Reuters last week that the group did not intend to initiate attacks against Israel.

Oil prices drop 2%, head for weekly gains

Oil prices were mixed on Friday, after the White House delayed a decision on potential US intervention in the Iran-Israel conflict. Despite the volatility, the prices are on track for weekly gains. Brent crude futures for August delivery fell by 2.1%, or $1.65, to $77.20 a barrel at 8:10 AM Makkah time. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures for August—the most actively traded contract—rose 0.65%, or 47 cents, to $73.97 a barrel. This came after a White House statement saying President Donald Trump would decide within the next two weeks whether the US will intervene in the ongoing Middle East conflict, according to Reuters. Chinese customs data released today showed fuel oil imports reached 1.30 million tons in May, equivalent to about 267,000 barrels per day—down 29% from April and 40% lower than the same period last year.

Katz Warns Hezbollah Against Joining Conflict with Iran

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Lebanon's Hezbollah to exercise caution on Friday, saying Israel's patience with "terrorists" who threaten it had worn thin. Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said on Thursday that the Lebanese group would act as it saw fit in the face of what he called "brutal Israeli-American aggression" against Iran. In other statements, the group has made no explicit pledge to join the fighting. But it has condemned Israel's surprise strikes on Iran that sparked the conflict and endorsed Iran's missile barrages over Israel. "I suggest the Lebanese proxy be cautious and understand that Israel has lost patience with terrorists who threaten it,' Katz said in a statement on Friday, adding that "if there is terrorism -- there will be no Hezbollah." Qassem 'is not learning a lesson from his predecessors and is threatening to act against Israel in accordance with the Iranian dictator's orders,' Katz stated. He said on Thursday that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, 'cannot continue to exist.'
