Dad in family of 5 reveals price tag for 1 day at Disney World — and haters are shocked: ‘Outrageous'

News.com.au06-05-2025

A Florida father left online viewers speechless after revealing that he paid nearly AU$2165 to take his family of five to Disney World for just one day.
A video detailing the exorbitant price tag has amassed over 7.7 million views on X.
'Here's what a day at Disney cost me for a family of five,' explained the unnamed man, who documented the price of tickets, parking, meals and snacks, along with items at the souvenir shops.
Before even embarking on the money-haemorrhaging adventure, the dad reportedly shelled out AU$46 for all-day parking at the attraction, which is located 20 minutes southwest of Orlando by car. The total cost of tickets for the quintet, including a child under 10, clocked in at an eye-popping AU$1506.
The dad said they would've paid more had they opted for the Lightning Lane pass, which allows guests to skip the regular line for up to three attractions for AU$55 per person.
Snacks also took a big bite out of the family's finances. After their first ride, they bought two water bottles and three ice creams, which set them back AU$45.65. Meanwhile, a pretzel for the kids and a beer for the dad cost another AU$29.40.
The family also visited the souvenir store, where the father put the kybosh on his son's request for a AU$70 lightsaber.
'That was a hard no,' declared the dad, who said they also spent a pretty penny on lunch at Pizzerizzo.
Each family member ordered a personal-sized pizza, a side and a small soft drink, costing them a total of AU$68.
After lunch, the family visited the Star Wars: Galaxy Edge park, where they dropped an astronomical amount on various cash-in products.
These included a Star Wars-themed Coca-Cola (AU$10), a churro, margarita and water ($55.70), and some special blue milk ($16) that first appeared in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, bringing their snack expense total to a shocking AU$156.70.
Just when the dad thought the spending spree was 'finally' over, the 'rest of the family' decided they wanted to go to dinner at Disney Springs, the resort's outdoor dining, shopping and entertainment complex.
'This place was my literal hell; it was shoulder-to-shoulder in every store and restaurant,' lamented the bedraggled dad.
They settled on the Frontera Cocina — a Mexican restaurant by multiple James Beard award-winner Rick Bayless — where they ordered carnitas, carne asada, soft drinks, margaritas and more. Total cost: AU$379.50.
He said the family then wanted to go shopping, but luckily, 'it was getting late' — and they decided to call it a day.
The grand total for the day was AU$2153.40, per the disbelieving dad, who asked viewers, 'Would you spend that much on a day at Disney?' Many commenters were flabbergasted over the price tag, with one calling it 'outrageous' and another incredulous writer posting, 'I stopped at the tickets being almost US$1,000 (AU$1547), no point in watching the rest. Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave.'
'Disney is unattainable for most families now, sadly,' rued another.
Others pointed out that the trip would be a lot more if they'd flown there or booked a hotel, with one claiming it costs up to two times as much to stay at the resort.
However, some critics ripped the family for spending so much money on food.
'Heaven forbid they're not constantly eating lol,' scoffed one naysayer. 'Could have eliminated most of those meals with intermittent fasting or just eating in the car on the way there.'
Others claimed that the price actually seemed cheaper than they would've expected for a group that size.
'US$1,400 (AU$2165) that's not bad for a family of 5 tho,' said one. 'Looks like they had a nice time tbh — I was thinking the total was about to be US$3,500 (AU$5415).'
In February, Walt Disney Company officials who work in pricing for its theme parks admitted that the experience has become unattainable for many average Americans, blaming executives at the Happiest Place on Earth for getting 'addicted to price hikes,' per a startling report.
Meanwhile, a report from 2024 found that food prices at Disney World soared by an average of 61 per cent over the past decade — nearly twice the rate of inflation during that period.

A hotel room in Bali that's bigger than the average Aussie home

In the 1980s, two different forms of luxury accommodation surfaced in Bali: internationally branded five-star resorts; and villas — private walled homes with tropical gardens, private pools and in-house staff. About 20 years ago, investors began combining the two in super-luxury estates where every guest stays in a private villa while also having at their fingertips all the amenities of a five-star resort. Well-known examples include the Four Seasons on the beachfront at Jimbaran Bay and Aman Nusa, now called Aman Villas, which overlooks an 18-hole golf course in Nusa Dua. However, relatively few know of Umana Bali on the Bukit Peninsula on Bali's south coast. Originally a Banyan Tree Hotel, the Umana was acquired and renovated in 2023 by LXR Hotels & Resorts, a 'soft brand' of the Hilton group. In hotel speak, this refers to a brand that does not conform to specific decor or operations and is independent in form, function and spirit. Set on a 70m high clifftop overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a white-sand beach, Umana Bali, a villa-only resort, ticks all the boxes that make LXR properties unique. Plus, it has one of the largest standard hotel room sizes in the world. Umana Bali has 72 one, two and three-bedroom villas. The smallest, which I stayed in, is set on a 403sqm walled plot. Most hotel villas only have plunge pools, but here you get a 41sqm ocean-facing infinity-edge pool big enough to do laps in. There is also a jet pool adjoining the day pavilion with an outdoor sofa, reflective ponds and tropical plants. The indoor space measures 288sqm — 13 per cent more floor space than the national average for new detached houses in Australia. T he bathroom is bigger than most hotel rooms; a vast marble chamber with a two-person bathtub set in a glass enclosure edged by a rock garden with a bas-relief on the wall. The main bedroom has sliding glass doors that open directly into the pool. Waking up in the morning and drawing the curtains to Pacific Ocean views is a rock-star experience. But what I appreciated most was the combined living and dining room with an L-shaped sofa, coffee table, matching armchairs and a big, beautiful rug. In 25 years of travel writing, I have never seen a full-size living room in the standard room category of a hotel. Still, it pales in comparison to what awaits guests at the 1200sqm three-bedroom Umana Pool Villa. The living room is so big they had to put in a baby grand piano to consume some negative space. All five-star hotels in Bali put on breakfast buffets fit for kings, and Commune, Umana's breakfast venue, is no exception. Set inside a traditional Balinese building with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in 180-degree ocean views, it is an Asian-themed restaurant, and the menu reflects that, with ramen, bakso (an Indonesian soup) and sushi stations. But it also has all your standard Western or American breakfast staples and a few extravagant options, like baby lobster on sourdough toast with caviar. The French toast is thick, layered in maple syrup, and comes with two scoops of mascarpone cream on the side. Commune is one of five F&B venues in the hotel. The signature is Olivera, a fine-dining Mediterranean restaurant. You can sit inside, in a big white modern space, or grab a table on the balcony. I had the set four-course meal but they served me seven courses, including four different kinds of amuse bouches, a world-class lobster bisque, a perfectly grilled striploin steak with red wine jus, finished with a slice of baked cream cheesecake. Normally, when I try a set menu at hotel restaurants in Bali, it's hit-and-miss. Most dishes are good but there are always one or two I don't eat. Not here. Everything was spot on. Kudos to the chef. + Ian Neubauer was a guest of LXR Hotels & Resorts. They have not influenced this story, or read it before publication. + Umana Bali is on the clifftops of the Bukit Peninsula, overlooking Melasti Beach on Bali's south coast, a 35-minute drive from the international airport. At the time of writing in May, rates at hotel booking sites for a one-bedroom villa with breakfast started at $1140 per night and climbed to $6600 for the three-bedroom villa. Discounts are offered if you book directly with the hotel. + The most current Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that in 2021-22, the average floor area of new houses in Australia was 232.3sqm.

Tensions rife in Beckham feud as Brooklyn buys LA mansion

Brooklyn Beckham has officially bought a US mansion with his wife Nicola Peltz in a move that has been described as a 'dagger to the heart' for his parents after their relationship began to crumble earlier this year. Beckham, 26, and Peltz, 30, closed on an illustrious US$14m (AU$21.7m) property in Hollywood last week after previously renting in the area. The luxurious home boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a state-of-the-art home cinema, a gym, and an infinity pool. The purchase represents a now permanent move to the US, with Beckham showing no sign of returning home anytime soon, a source revealed to The Sun. 'As an influencer he can work anywhere, but Brooklyn believes he has more opportunities in LA. It will be a dagger to the heart for his parents,' the insider said. 'Until now, the couple have always been renting so there was hope his relocation wouldn't be permanent. 'This house purchase quashes any last hopes.' The news comes after the British influencer snubbed his dad, David Beckham on Father's Day despite the football legend proudly sharing photos of his eldest son on Instagram. 'My most important & favourite job in life is being a dad ... I'm so proud of all of you and like daddy (sorry boys) tells you every single day I will always be here for you no matter what...,' Beckham, 50, captioned the series of cute family photos. 'Mummy thank you for doing the most important part and making me a father there is no greater gift in life than making me a dad... Happy Father's Day... I love you kiddies more than you could imagine..' David Beckham shared never-before-seen photos of his children in a post celebrating Father's Day. Credit: Instagram Rumours of tension began swirling earlier this year when Beckham failed to attend his father's 50th birthday celebrations — an uncharacteristic move for the usually sentimental eldest son. Beckham also recently shared a video of him and Peltz, which he captioned, 'I always choose you.' Earlier in June, fans noticed that Beckham had covered up a chest tattoo that once read 'mama's boy' with a large floral design that appears to replicate Peltz's bridal bouquet.
