I was one of the first to try the revamped ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach – with new 80mph launch
IT'S launch day, but this isn't my first rodeo on Blackpool Pleasure Beach's 'new' shot tower ride, Launch Pad.
Known as Ice Blast until 2023 and PlayStation: The Ride before that, anyone familiar with Blackpool will know this vertical steel giant well.

Over the past year it has had a huge makeover

It's one of the park's classic thrill rides, and it's been flinging riders to jaw-dropping heights since 1997.
But after one year off, it's back, having had a huge makeover that's aims to get your stomach churning like never before. Lucky for me - I was one of the first to give it a spin ahead of its public opening this week.
Besides an updated name, theme and fresh blue and red paint job, the daunting 210-foot structure has been overhauled with a brand-new launch cylinder to give it an extra kick.

And I have to say, after multiple rides at its official press launch, I can't argue with that.
With a rocket-like blast off that catapults you vertically at speeds of up to 80mph in mere seconds before a sudden, stomach-lurching plunge back to
earth
, I can confirm that the experience is better than ever.
Launch Pad isn't the first time Blackpool has updated an old ride to offer visitors a new experience.

The park's bosses say overhauling existing rides isn't just about a new name and a fresh paint job.
Reusing Launch Pad's structure also means less waste - something the park's CEO, Amanda Thompson, said is better for the planet, right before cutting the ribbon.

After Blackpool Pleasure Beach CEO, Amanda Thompson, cut the ribbon and announced Launch Pad as officially open, we were let loose inside the ride area, which has a cool new
Added oomph
Alongside the galactic soundtrack, there's updated seats and restraints, and a themed launch sequence, which counts you down to take-off - alongside theatrical smoke - just like you're blasting off into the stars.
However, the biggest update to Launch Pad is an upgraded pneumatic cylinder, now operating at a whopping 105 pounds per square inch (PSI). I'm told that this boost in pressure means a much faster ascent, with riders fired upwards with more force. And you really feel it.
The increase in kinetic
energy
is what makes the launch feel completely different.
Comparing it to previous years, it now feels sharper and way more aggressive - from the g-force that pushes you down into your seat at lift off, to the floaty weightlessness you feel when you hit the top.

And no matter how many times you ride it, it doesn't lose its edge. Sure, your stomach is left on the floor, but before long, you're rewarded with epic views across the whole of Blackpool, its
Blackpool Pleasure Beach recently reopened for the season, including welcoming visitors to the Nickelodeon Land area of the park for the first time in over 10-years.
In addition, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been crowned as the best family-owned theme park in the country.
The amusement park first opened in 1896 and has been kept in the same family since.
Blackpool's Pleasure Beach Resort prices start from £28 for kids and £30 for adults.

And this summer, the bar has partnered with Aperol for a bespoke Spritz menu. The venue will also host live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Guesthouse No.42, Margate Guesthouse No.42 opened in Margate back in 2023 and in the same year the spot opened their new rooftop terrace bar. The bar features amazing 360 degree views over the beach front and serves a wide range of tipples including local beers and wine. However, it is currently the only rooftop bar in Margate - so could be busy in the summer months.

‘Capri-inspired' beach bar with real sand and Ibiza-style DJ sessions opens in UK city

What it's REALLY like to work with Sir David Attenborough as star launches show ‘that's like stepping into his films'
THE British legend that is Sir David Attenborough has launched a new attraction that feels like stepping straight into his documentaries. From watching a pack of gazelles try to outpace a hungry 13 It's the first time the Natural History Museum has shown an immersive experience like this Credit: Jenna Stevens 13 The stunning location: London's Natural History museum Credit: Jenna Stevens 13 The stunning visuals were ten times better than watching TV at home Credit: Jenna Stevens And when I heard he was narrating an epic new 360 experience at London's Natural History Museum, I knew I had to go. With 24 projectors, 50 speakers and 5 screens later, Our Story with David Attenborough is now opening its doors to the public. It's an immersive experience created by Open Planet Studios (the company that's worked with Sir David to make films like Ocean ) alongside the Natural History Museum, a big team of experts, and Sir David Attenborough himself. These powers have come together to create something that feels like stepping inside your TV screen into the world of the nature documentary. Read more on UK attractions I walked into the room and picked my seat, with enough space for about 100 people at a time. With the show projected onto all the walls that surround you, it feels a bit like a 360-degree cinema experience. The show begins in space. The room is dark, as projected stars rush over your body, and you zoom past the planets of our solar system. You eventually reach earth - and what happens next is a 50-minute deep dive into the history of life on our planet. Whilst you're being wowed by the visuals, you're also learning about history and the latest There's this particular scene that shows how Glowing, cartoon-like mushrooms illuminate the screens, climbing over the walls and building pathways onto the floor. "Those mushrooms are based on time-lapse footage of real mushrooms" says Victoria Bromley, director-producer at Open Planet Studios . "And there's a point where we asked 'Do they look too Disney ? Are people even going to believe that that's real?'" "But the original footage actually looks like that. Nature is just so unbelievable". That's what makes this immersive experience so different to others I've been to before. It's not a flashy lights show - you're watching modern scientific discoveries come to life before your eyes. As the show turns to humans, Sir David runs through the highs and lows of human life on earth - everything from And in a heart-warming ending that genuinely got me choked up, Sir David shared how after a near century-long career, he is filled with hope for the future. "Let's use our dazzling minds for good" he says. "And work with the world instead of against it". What a hero. Walking out of the viewing room, I felt moved and inspired, but it was also a real shock to the system. It felt like when the credits start to roll at the cinema, and you remember that you have a real life to go back to after losing yourself for an afternoon. (Can't I just stay, watch the gorillas and listen to David forever? Please?) The exhibit is open to the public from Thursday 19th June. Tickets for adults are £20, with tickets for children aged 4-16 priced at £10. If you're a student, you can get in for £16. If you happen to be a member of the museum, you get 50 per cent off. There's multiple showings a day, starting every hour on the hour.
