SIS head: Egypt, Qatar doing everything possible to support Palestinian cause

CAIRO - 15 April 2025: Head of the State Information Service (SIS) Journalist Diaa Rashwan, said in a Monday interview with Al-Qahera News TV Channel that Egypt and Qatar are constantly doing everything possible to advance the Palestinian cause.
Rashwan added that US President Donald Trump appears to want to visit the region after the war in Gaza ends.
Rashwan also said that Trump knows that difficult negotiations are underway regarding Gaza and that the Israelis are raising the ceiling of their demands.
SIS head further added that the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza will witness a positive shift due to the significant efforts made by Egypt and Qatar.
He continued that since the renewed aggression on Gaza, Trump has given Netanyahu ample opportunity to release the detainees, and that this deadline is now coming to an end.
'Hamas knows the value of time and believes its response to the Israeli proposal will be swift,' he added.
He went on explaining that by negotiating with Iran now, Trump is doing what no previous US president has done.
'The Egyptian-Qatari mediation is biased toward the international law, legitimate rights, and international legitimacy resolutions,' Diaa Rashwan said.
He added, "The Israeli side was keen to submit its proposals this time, and I believe this is related to a timing issue on the Israeli side related to President Donald Trump's intention to visit the region next month."
Rashwan added, in a phone call with Amr Khalil, host of the program "From Egypt," broadcast on Al-Qahera News Channel, "It appears that Netanyahu's recent visit to the United States presents an unprecedented problem, one that was not present during the first reception in Washington."
He said, "It seems to me that Trump wants to come to the region after the war has ended, and Netanyahu is raising demands to the maximum level, which may not be possible to achieve them. However, this is a means of negotiation. Therefore, I believe that the new Israeli conditions are more an expression of a crisis than of superiority.'
'The mediators are aware of these dimensions, and that we are now in a real phase. Trump knows that there are difficult negotiations ahead and that the Israeli side will raise its demands to a level that may seem unreasonable or illogical. However, with the tireless Egyptian-Qatari efforts, things will take a more positive turn,' Rashwan continued.
Regarding his expected response from Hamas to the Israeli proposal conveyed by mediators regarding a ceasefire, Diaa Rashwan said"A short while ago, they [Hamas Movement] said they would respond. They [Hamas Movement] know the value of time, and I believe their response to the Israeli proposal will be swift, and there will be something the mediators, whose efforts have not ceased, can do."

Each ministry is developing detailed plans to address various scenarios, he emphasized, including the availability of petroleum and natural gas, the continuity of food supply chains, and the provision of essential goods even if the crisis extends for a long period. The Cabinet spokesperson further confirmed that the state has been working for months to ensure energy security, by equipping and connecting three liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels to the national natural gas grid, and the arrival of a fourth vessel soon to enhance the capacity to import LNG, and modernizing the energy sector's infrastructure. Homsany added that 'The current plan was prepared in advance to meet summer needs, and according to the Prime Minister's statements, electricity needs during the summer are fully secured and there are no concerns about power outages.' The monetary policy adopted by the Central Bank of Egypt relies on a flexible exchange rate system, he noted, which allows for a natural balance in the market between ups and downs. He explained: 'The monetary policy has succeeded in eliminating the parallel market and providing the full need for foreign currency, as our foreign exchange resources have become consistent with our needs for the third consecutive month.' N. Korea Condemns U.S. Strikes on Iran
