Inter-state drug racket busted in city, four held
Ranchi: City police on Friday arrested four drug peddlers, including a woman, from two locations in the city and busted an inter-state drug racket, recovering narcotics and cash worth around Rs 27 lakh.
Ranchi SSP claimed it to be one of the biggest drug haul in recent years.
The arrested persons have been identified as Suraj Kumar (25) who hails from Bihar's Sasaram, Sejal Khan (22), Vishal Mittal alias Hemant Mittal (25) and Arif Iqbal (26), all from Ranchi. Police recovered Rs 4.5 lakh cash and brown sugar worth around Rs 23 lakh market value from them.
SSP Chandan Kumar Singh said that an individual from Bihar's Sasaram trafficked brown sugar to Ranchi's Nur Nagar area under the Kotwali police station area. "Based on an intel, DSP Kotwali conducted a raid in the area at around 3 am on Friday, seizing brown sugar weighing around 110 grams. from Bihar's Sasaram and selling it in Ranchi.
Police recovered Rs 4.5 lakh from their possession. This is so far the biggest achievement of Ranchi police against drug trafficking," the SSP added.
Police also recovered two mobiles and a two-wheeler from them. During the interrogation, the duo revealed that they had been associated with the trafficking for a long time. "Sejal informed that her elder sister is also associated with the trafficking ring, and police have been trying to apprehend her as well," the SSP added.

Manappuram Finance ordered to compensate customer over service deficiency
SHIVAMOGGA: The Shivamogga District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Manappuram Finance Ltd. to compensate a Chikkamagaluru resident after finding the company guilty of committing a deficiency in service by seizing a customer's lorry without a legal notice. Talib Pasha bin Ansar Pasha, a resident of Gaurapura, Ajjampura in Tarikere taluk, had taken a loan of Rs 8.3 lakh from Manappuram Finance Ltd., Shivamogga branch, under a 'loan-cum-hypothecation' agreement for the purchase of a lorry bearing registration number KA-52 B-4032. The agreement included repayment through 52 EMI instalments. At the time of availing the loan, the complainant had also handed over six blank cheques as security. Later, the vehicle met with an accident and was seized by the police. On February 20, 2024, Pasha retrieved the lorry from police custody and sent it for repairs. However, he alleged that the finance company repossessed the lorry through its agents without serving any prior notice or obtaining a court order, violating the terms of the hypothecation agreement. Pasha had submitted a written request to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Tarikere not to transfer the vehicle's ownership to anyone else. Despite this, the finance company allegedly took possession of the vehicle and rented it out to one Mujir Pasha of Venus Automobiles, Hassan.

'Will Not Let Maoists Sleep Even During Monsoon': Amit Shah
Raipur: Delivering a firm message in Nava Raipur of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to ending Maoism in India by March 31, 2026. "This time," he declared, "we will not let them sleep through the monsoon-there will be no further dialogue." In his address, HM Shah once again appealed to Maoist cadres to surrender and return to the mainstream, assuring them that the government would uphold all commitments under the state's surrender policy. "Many have already chosen peace," he said. "We will extend more than what was promised-but only if violence is forsaken and you join in shaping a new Chhattisgarh." He also urged the youth of Chhattisgarh to embrace the growing opportunities in forensic science, describing it as a 'sunrise industry' with immense potential for purposeful careers. His remarks came during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) campus and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Naya Raipur. The Rs 268 crore initiative-Rs 145 crore for NFSU and Rs 123 crore for CFSL-is part of a national strategy to modernise the criminal justice system through evidence-based policing and forensic-led investigations. Calling it a landmark day for Chhattisgarh's justice infrastructure, the Home Minister said the new institutions would serve not only the state but all of central India. The NFSU transit campus will offer graduate and postgraduate courses from 2025-26 in various forensic disciplines, with HM Shah asserting that "an NFSU degree means a guaranteed job." The Centre aims to produce 32,000 forensic professionals annually through 26 campuses nationwide; seven have already been established, 10 are proposed, and nine are sanctioned. He highlighted the economic promise of the forensic sector, noting that the global forensic technology market-currently valued at $20 billion-is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 13 per cent and is projected to reach $55 billion by 2036, with India contributing 9 per cent to that growth. HM Shah further emphasised the importance of youth-led entrepreneurship in Chhattisgarh's development. Following the inauguration of the state's Innovation Hub (i-Hub), he pointed to the signing of a Rs 5,000 crore Memorandum of Understanding at an investment summit hosted by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. While welcoming industrial interest, the Home Minister stressed that true transformation would come only when young people become entrepreneurs and foster an industrial mindset. He described the i-Hub as a launchpad for innovation, offering technical and financial support to aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly in the MSME sector. "Industries are arriving, but Chhattisgarh will only witness real development when its youth lead the way," he said. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of Chhattisgarh's formation, which the state is observing as Atal Nirman Varsh. "Atal ji created Chhattisgarh, and under Narendra Modi ji, we will take it to new heights," HM Shah declared. He also praised the state government for its swift implementation of the newly enacted criminal laws-Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)-noting that these reforms aim to ensure justice is delivered within three years of filing an FIR. People say some drivers are overcharging, using faulty meters, or refusing to take passengers. Acting on these complaints, Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) carried out a major crackdown on Saturday and booked over 1,000 cases in the city's west division, collecting Rs 4.9 lakh in fines. The drive mainly focused on busy areas like Majestic, Ananda Rao Circle, KSR Railway Station, MG Road, Church Street, and Cubbon Park. Overcharging and uniform violations top the list During the day-long drive, 180 cases were booked specifically for autorickshaw violations, collecting Rs 89,700 in fines. The highest number, 84 cases, were against drivers not wearing their khaki uniform, resulting in Rs 42,000 in fines.
