Credit-based evaluation system to assess students' Yoga performance to be set in Haryana govt schools, 'Yoga Break' to be introduced in all govt offices

CHANDIAGARH: A credit-based evaluation system for assessing students' Yoga performance in all government schools will be introduced in Haryana, and a uniform yoga curriculum will soon be implemented in all universities and colleges across the State.
Besides, a five-minute 'Yoga Break' will be introduced in all government offices,
On the 11th International Yoga Day, over one lakh people gathered at the sacred Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra for the State-level event, and nearly 20 lakh participants joined the yoga sessions held across 22 districts and 121 blocks of the State.
Addressing a State-level function, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that a 'Yoga Writer Incentive Scheme' will be launched to promote Yoga research in universities, with outstanding authors to be honoured annually.
Additionally, 100 new 'Yoga evam Vyayamshalas' will be established this financial year.
Currently, there are 883 Vyayamshalas already operating in the State. An international meditation hall will also be built at Shri Krishna AYUSH University in Kurukshetra.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that Yoga and naturopathy subjects will be recognised under the AYUSH, starting this year, with government registration of practitioners also commencing.
Saini also announced that experienced coaches will be appointed to strengthen Yoga as a sport at the national level and to train athletes for international competitions.
Recruitment for 40 Yoga instructors in the sports department will begin shortly.

Various institutions and organisations observed the 11th International Yoga Day (IYD) in the central districts by conducting mass exercise sessions and awareness programmes on Saturday, centred on this year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' More than 500 persons participated in the mass yoga event organised by the Archaeological Survey of India in association with the 34(TN) Independent Company NCC at Sri Brihadeeswarar temple, Thanjavur on June 21. The yoga session in the early morning hours attracting the participation of NCC cadets and elderly temple-goers underscored the relevance of yoga as a timeless practice for harmony of body, mind and spirit, according to an official release. The Tiruchi Division of Southern Railway observed the day with mass yoga training sessions for officers and staff across various locations of the division. Yoga sessions were held for staff at multiple locations across the division, including Vriddhachalam, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Thanjavur, and Mayiladuthurai. Over 150 students accompanied by their yoga trainers participated in an event organised by Mera Yuva Bharat, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in association with the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority at the District Sports Stadium, Tiruvarur. Synchronised session Over 200 staff and students of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Neelakudi, Tiruvarur district, participated in the 'Yoga Sangam', a synchronised mass exercise session held across the country. The event was based on the Common Yoga Protocol developed by the Union Ministry of AYUSH, in consultation with leading yoga experts. The session was led by CUTN Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan and senior officials. Students from CUTN Kendriya Vidyalaya and Oxford School, Tiruvarur, participated in the programme conducted by the university's Department of Physical Education and Sports. At the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Puducherry (NITPY), Karan Gautham, students activity and sports assistant and yoga instructor, led a session on yogic postures, Pranayama, and meditation techniques for staff and students. Krishnakumar, yoga instructor from the Ariyalur Yoga Centre, conducted a practical yoga training session at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Perambalur. Chancellor A. Srinivasan spoke.

The month-long 'Yogandhra' campaign, which began on May 21 and culminated with the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on Saturday, was launched to encourage the public to incorporate yoga in their daily lives, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Speaking at the Yoga Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada, the Collector said that while thousands of people participated every day in the programme in the district, the practice should not end with the campaign. 'The month-long celebration should only be a beginning for the public, not the end,' he added. According to the district officials, around 5,000 people participated in the programme. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G. Jayalakshmi, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya and others were also present. In the past month, the administration organised yoga programmes in the city streets, tourist destinations, historical sites and also on the Krishna river, the Collector said. Around 8,50,000 people in 5,454 places within the limits of 605 village/ward secretariats took part in the yoga programmes, the Collector added. Yoga is a gift that nature has bestowed upon us to remain mentally and physically fit, the Collector said, while listing out the benefits of practising it every day. Later, he congratulated the members of Yoga Association on their role in the Floating Yoga programme held recently. The programme had received wide admiration. On Saturday, around 200 people performed yoga in the Krishna river in an event organised by the Aqua Devils Swimming Association. In Krishna district, the programme was organised on the premises of Sri Viswasanthi Educational Institutions in Vuyyuru. Along with District Collector D.K. Balaji, Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry, APSRTC Chairman K. Narayana Rao, and Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Gangadhar Rao also took part. A green carpet was laid on the ground for the students and officials to perform yoga. Later, breakfast was arranged for those who took part in the programme. Medical camps were also set up. Cultural programmes and an award ceremony followed, where yoga instructors and students were felicitated.
