Robbie Brady wins FAI senior men's player of the year

ROBBIE BRADY HAS been crowned the senior men's international player of the year, as part of the FAI's 35th annual awards.
Brady was shortlisted alongside Caoimhín Kelleher and Nathan Collins for the senior men's gong, and was presented with the award by Heimir Hallgrimsson at a team meeting ahead of Friday's international against Senegal.
Brady missed all of Ireland's Euro 2024 qualification campaign through injury, but has returned to fitness and established himself as an integral player under Hallgrimsson, scoring the winning goal away to Finland in the Nations League last October.

Such were Brady's injury issues, he made just three appearances for Ireland between June 2021 and March 2023. He has since played in all but two of the games under Hallgrimsson, and was an ever-present during John O'Shea's interim spell in charge.
Brady's importance to Ireland is accentuated by the fact he is with the Irish squad this week: Hallgrimsson sought to rest his Championship players for this window, given it falls so far into their off-season, but Brady is one of two Championship players nonetheless selected for the games, alongside Jason Knight.
'This is brilliant, I didn't expect to win it. . . shows how shite youse have all been if I'm winning this!', joked Brady in response.

It's Brady's second time to win the award, having also won it in 2016.
Brady's winner in Helsinki is on the shortlist for the goal of the year award – the rest of the winners will be announced prior to the Senegal game on Friday.

'It's special because sometimes you need to understand what motivates the other team, to understand how special it is,' he said. 'For me, that's being humble: understanding what motivates the other team and I know how special it is for an Irish, Scottish, Welsh or English player to be a Lion. And for us to play against the best of the best in these islands, it's nearly a dream. 'And I wouldn't say even having a win because we could have lost that game. We won it, putting in that performance after two days. For me, I take my hat off to the boys. Bradley admits leaders Rovers are keen on Masterson coup

Conor Masterson would be of interest to Shamrock Rovers if the former Liverpool centre-back was to become available. Masterson (26) was in Tallaght on Friday to watch the Hoops swell their lead at the top of the table to 11 points following a 4-1 mauling of Cork City. He's just completed his season at English League Two Gillingham but is out of contract next week and yet to agree to an extension. Previously, he featured in the Championship for Queen's Park Rangers and was once part of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool first-team squad. He famously joined the Reds from his local Lucan United club in 2014 on a record package of €525,000. The defender from Celbridge has options to move up a tier to League One but both Damien Duff and Stephen Kenny are interested in bringing him to Shelbourne and St Patrick's Athletic respectively ahead of their European campaigns. Masterson was a regular during Kenny's year in charge of Ireland's U21s. Hoops boss Stephen Bradley was asked about the presence of Masterson as a club guest and while he stressed no talks have occurred he'd be open to exploring the prospect. I don't know what his plans are, I don't know anything about them and that's being genuine. 'I'm hearing that teams have offered him deals, I don't know how true it is. All I know is we haven't spoken to him. But if it's something that he was coming home, we'd obviously be interested in good players.'
