How to honor Juneteenth in Tampa Bay
Juneteenth is on Thursday, and there are numerous ways to celebrate the holiday across Tampa Bay.
Why it matters: Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas learned of their emancipation.
The big picture: Despite recent backlash against civil rights and discussions of racism, celebrations of the holiday are growing, Axios' Russell Contreras reports.
Zoom in: Here's how to celebrate locally:
Tampa Bay Juneteenth Festival, Tampa: This weeklong celebration kicks off Monday night with a youth summit, continues through the week with community discussions and a Top Golf fundraiser and culminates in a free block party-style festival on Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.
Juneteenth Celebration on the Deuces, St. Petersburg: This party in the heart of St. Pete's Black business district will feature vendors, artists and more.
11am-8pm Thursday at The Catalyst on the Deuces
Tampa Heights Cultural Fest - A Juneteenth Community Celebration, Tampa: This free, family-friendly event will include live music, local vendors, food, a community kickball game and more.
5-9pm Sunday at the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association
Juneteenth Arts Festival, Sarasota: Join the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe for a free day of local art and short films, a free jazz concert, a documentary screening and more.
11am-7pm Sunday at the troupe's North Orange Avenue campus

Solange Wore a Deconstructed Skirt at Telfar's 20th Anniversary Show
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." If Solange's style could be described in two words, it would be elegant and experimental. Much like her music, it's a balance she's mastered again and again, and last night was no different. In honor of Telfar's 20th anniversary, the Grammy-winning artist attended the brand's high-energy runway show during Juneteenth weekend in New York City. A vibrant celebration and display of community, Solange was one of the many recognizable faces in attendance to support founder and designer Telfar Clemens. For the event, the Grammy award-winning singer stepped out in her go-to color palette of dark-toned neutrals. Wearing a summer-appropriate bra-as-top sculptural black bandeau, she made a statement with the cropped fit cut cleanly across her chest. But the real standout of her look was her choice of bottom. She opted for a bold, deconstructed piece that combined a classic pinstriped button-down and a leather skirt into one seamless design. The shirt element was tied around the hips, creating an asymmetric, draped effect that added fluidity to her outfit. On her feet, she kept things sleek with square-toe black thong sandals. The minimal silhouette contrasted with the volume and movement of the skirt. As for her glam, Solange went for her signature understated and minimal makeup. Her barely-there approach featured a glowy and radiant base, lightly feathered brows, and a glossy pink lip. She also kept her hair down and loose in her usual waves. Telfar Spring 2025: A Megawatt 20th Anniversary Celebration
Telfar marked its 20th anniversary on Saturday night of Juneteenth weekend in New York City by doing what the brand does best: celebrating its loyal community through a high-energy fashion display. 'This show celebrates our 20th anniversary. Everything Telfar couldn't rely on when we started this line: investors, buyers, factors, distributors, press, celebs, co-signs, d, e or i — we still don't rely on today,' designer and founder Telfar Clemens' show notes read. 'Everything we did rely on — family, friends, vision, bulls–t-alarms and commitment — holds us down to this day.' More from WWD Taking a Closer Look at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' Telfar Unveils Long-awaited 'Infinity' Collection With Stretch Denim, Ombre Tanks and Crescent Bags Law Roach, Telfar Clemens and Jeremy Pope Land on the Native Son 101 List Held on one block of Cortland Alley, models emerged in the designer's latest looks from a back door of the Black-owned genderless brand's flagship at 408 Broadway. While the show started two hours late, that was easy to forget once the live music kicked off and more than 100 models of all ages, gender expressions and races emerged into the alley beneath hanging clotheslines filled with the brand's signature Half tanks. On the runway, Clemens' spring 2025 collection extended the brand's latest Infinity capsule of reworked classic garments, with cool new takes on stretchy blue denim, modular Infinity looped tanks, blouses, leggings, T-shirts, sweatshirts, dresses and skirts in ombre hues or with a variety of graphics reminiscent of the nearby Canal Street tourist merchandise, including logoed riffs on the iconic 'I Heart NY.' Beyond ready-to-wear — which also included new hybrid sarong pants, eased up cotton work jackets and pants, and cool street-friendly, pajama-esque layers — the graphics fronted new must-have luxe handbags that were inspired by plastic shopping bags. For Telfar fans eager to get their hands on this next 'It' bag, the wait won't be long: the collection is currently dropping, and will continue to every month 'until next season,' show notes read. As each new group of looks emerged, the number of models donning them continued to grow, as seen through dozens of the ensemble donning happy summer pastel, reworked cotton pique polos (backward, wrapped, maxi, etc.), hybrid tracksuits and perforated logoed windbreakers, and many more. It was an impressive fashion block party filled with covetable new styles rooted in reality and celebration of the brand. After a three-year hiatus from the runway, Clemens' strong display of friends and family — including new faces cast from Wednesday night's TelfarTV 'New Models' one-hour special and Luar's Raul Lopez strutting the runway while Solange Knowles watched from her seat — proved the power of community and culture that Telfar has built on for the last two decades — and will continue to for years to come. We Have Seven Questions After Watching the June 20 Days of Our Lives
The Friday, June 20 episode of Days of Our Lives honored Juneteenth and graduated the high school crew. Sophia thought she was in labor. Chanel threatened EJ, and the secret Rachel's keeping continued to manifest itself physically. Meanwhile, Marlena struggled. Physically, she was okay. Psychologically, not so much. She has a devastating case of grief, and she may need to seek help to get her through this trying time. What was the purpose of having Chanel (Raven Bowens) threaten EJ (Dan Feuerriegel)? He was already shot. It's looking like Johnny's relationship with his father is going to be the next hurdle for Chanel and Johnny (Carson Boatman) to jump. Well, that, and the fact that Johnny shot EJ, our next question. Brady (Eric Martsolf) just came out and said it. Before, it was Rachel seeing Johnny and EJ fighting, and Johnny had a gun. Now, it's she saw Johnny shoot EJ…point blank. Poor Rachel (Alice Halsey) keeps getting sick over what she saw, and now she's with Marlena (Deidre Hall), and she might say something incriminating in her sleep. This is a strange way of solving an attempted murder mystery. What isn't strange is that EJ will do whatever it takes to keep Johnny from going to jail. We get budget restrictions, logistics, and other limitations that soaps have to face. But we learned that EJ un-disappeared Rachel Blake (Roslyn Gentle). And thanks to Rita (Maggie Carney), the Woman in White is back at Aremid, never to step foot in Salem again. The extent of the graduation was the students decked in cap and gown, standing in a Salem High School hallway. No stage for the students to walk. No speech for Salutatorian Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis) to give. Same with Mayor Paulina's inspiring Juneteenth-related words to the graduates. We had to settle for Paulina (Jackée Harry) practicing her speech for Abe (James Reynolds). Plus, we had to take Holly's word for it that both Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) were out in the audience at the graduation. We should have at least seen Eric since he returned to Salem for John's funeral. Speaking of which… We can see Eric not mentioning anything about what's going on with him because his latest visit was all about losing John, supporting Marlena, and marrying Andrew and Paul. But couldn't he have at least told Belle (Martha Madison) or Brady that he and Nicole were having problems? And why go there? If Eric and Nicole aren't in Salem, we want to think of them living their best soulmate lives in Paris with Jude. First of all, she was the Salutatorian of her high school class. She would have picked a college by now. But is she serious about leaving Salem? They are cutting it close with Tate (Leo Howard) and Sophia (Rachel Boyd). In Friday's episode, she simply had Braxton Hicks contractions. But her due date isn't that far away. Where is this going? When Brady thanked Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) for all her help with Rachel and Sophia, we got a vibe. And Brady has been single for a while. Just wondering. What are your thoughts and questions about Friday's episode? Let us know in the comments.
