Wolf Alice to play three surprise gigs in Ireland next week
Wolf Alice will play three surprise Irish gigs next week as the band prepares for its highly-anticipated comeback.
The four-piece rock band will take to the stage in Set Theatre, Kilkenny on 19 May, Cyprus Avenue, Cork on 20 May and Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick on 21 May.
The London alt-rockers, fronted by Ellie Rowsell, are known for their explosive live shows and genre-defying sound, blending grunge, folk and indie rock into something entirely their own.
The Irish gigs will be the Mercury Prize-winning band's first shows together since late 2022 and come ahead of appearances at BBC Radio 1's One Big Weekend later in May and Glastonbury in June.
The band will release its new single, Bloom Baby Bloom, today, 15 May, at 6.30pm.
Wolf Alice's last release was the album Blue Weekend in 2021, with a new album expected to follow the release of the single Bloom Baby Bloom.

Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon admits she knew little to nothing about Formula One before her lead role in the Brad Pitt F1 film. Condon stars alongside Pitt in the new blockbuster F1, opening in Irish cinemas this week. The 42-year-old received an Oscar nomination for her role as Siobhán, the long-suffering sister of Colm Farrell's character, in The Banshees of Inisherin. She is also known for playing Octavia in the hit HBO series Rome (2005-2007); Stacey Ehrmantraut in Better Call Saul (2015-2022); and as the voice of the AI entity F.R.I.D.A.Y. in various films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 'I didn't know anything about Formula One, not a thing at all. I only knew about the podium and the champagne celebrations. That was the height of my knowledge. 'I had to learn a lot. about the engineering side of making the car and the physics of it. I got to a certain point where I said, 'I have to go to college to learn this properly!'' But instead, Condon wisely focused on 'the particular scenes that I was in' and explained to the audience what was going on, so if you are not a Formula One fan, you'll understand what is happening in the movie. It wasn't a fluke, I got an Oscar nomination [for Banshees], and I felt I was up for acting opposite Brad Pitt. I think I've enough experience. In F1, Condon plays Kate McKenna, race director of the fictional APX GP team and the first female technical director in Formula One. Her character is influenced by Northern Ireland's Bernie Collins, a former Formula One strategy engineer. Condon has also revealed she and Hollywood A-lister Pitt share 'a bit of romance' in the movie. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, she shot the host a suggestive look when he asked if depicting a romance with Pitt's character was 'part of the draw' for her to take part in the new movie. 'They scheduled it for half eight on a Thursday morning,' she said of her call time for those scenes with Pitt. 'I was like, 'Ah, come on.' So I had a vodka orange juice for my breakfast that morning. 'We were supposed to be in Vegas on a night out or whatever,' she added, before telling Colbert: 'You're giving it all away!'' And at a red-carpet event this week, the down-to-earth Thurles-born star gave a rather Irish answer when asked to reveal her most memorable moment during the high-profile, global blockbuster shoot. Instead of nights out or parties with fellow cast members, which also include Javier Bardem and Damson Idris, Condon recalled walking around casinos in Las Vegas at 5 am when filming had finished, 'drinking tea' that cost $15 (€13). She also rubbished reports circulating online that she is about to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a real-life reprise of her F.R.I.D.A.Y. character in the upcoming Disney series, Vision Quest. Vogue Williams had a blunt one-word assessment of husband Spencer Matthews before the pair met. Irish TV presenter Vogue, 39, met former Made in Chelsea man Spencer, 36, while filming Channel 4's The Jump in 2017. Final call for submissions made to celebrate filmmakers at the Boyne Valley International Film Festival
The festival creates an environment for filmmakers and audiences to connect and celebrate film in the historical medieval town of Drogheda. It is curated by Frank W. Kelly and Collette Farrell, produced by Droichead Arts Centre in partnership with LOVE Drogheda BIDS. Screenwriters are invited to pitch a short film idea before July, 4 to be shortlisted by a panel of filmmakers including Clare Monnelly from 'Fréwaka', Naomi Sheridan from 'In America' and Peter McKenna from 'Kin'. The four shortlisted filmmakers will be awarded a bursary of €500, and each will be invited to present their short film idea to the panel during the festival. One lucky filmmaker will be chosen and awarded a further bursary of €2,500 to write the script. There will be awards given for the following categories: Best Short Film Made in the Boyne Valley; Best Irish Narrative Short Film; Best International Narrative Short Film; Best Animated Short Film; and Best Documentary Short Film. Boyne Valley International Film Festival also announced that the 2025 Filmmaker in Focus is award-winning filmmaker and commercial director, TJ O'Grady-Peyton. He first gained recognition at the Young Director Awards at Cannes and has directed international campaigns for Guinness, Under Armour, UEFA, BMW, the European Union and the Premier League. His short film 'Wave' won an Irish Film and Television Award and was featured in The New Yorker and by Disney after premiering at Tribeca. His latest short, 'Room Taken' - funded by Screen Ireland and executive produced by Colin Farrell - has won 45 awards and was shortlisted among the final 15 for the 2025 Academy Awards. A member of the Directors Guild of America, TJ was also selected for a Werner Herzog masterclass and Les Nuits en Or, a UNESCO and French Academy of Film-backed showcase of standout short films.
