Hyderabad: Former MLA and BJP State Vice-President NVVS Prabhakar criticised State Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for failing to provide the necessary matching grants for Central government schemes in Telangana.
He stated that despite Reddy's repeated claims about supporting federal principles, the implementation of these schemes has been undermined by changing their names and diluting their effectiveness.
Prabhakar addressed the media in the national capital on Tuesday, accusing the Congress government in Telangana of betraying the people by not effectively implementing Central government initiatives. Earlier, he met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss several pressing issues, including the status of the Awas Yojana, Fasal Bima Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM Kusum Yojana, and funding for local bodies, gram panchayats, and municipalities from the Central Government Finance Commission.
During the meeting, he informed the Finance Minister that the State's financial situation is worsening daily. He pointed out that the State government is unable to raise new debt because it has surpassed the limits set by the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act.

SIT summons BJP leader in T'gana phone-tapping case

The Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police probing the alleged phone tapping during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, summoned a close aide of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay for questioning in connection with the case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed on Friday. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped (HT Archive) In a statement, the Telangana BJP said the SIT officials had confirmed on Friday that the phone of Bandi Sanjay's close aide and BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, Boyinapalli Praveen Rao, was tapped during the previous BRS regime. 'The SIT authorities called up Praveen Rao and informed him that his phone number was also in the list of those which were tapped. They said they would summon him shortly, and he would be required to appear before the investigating authorities for questioning,' the BJP said. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, too, confirmed that he had received the information from the investigating authorities that his phone, too, was tapped during the previous regime. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped. 'Now, the investigation has revealed that the phones of his staff and close associates were also tapped,' it said. The party said Praveen Rao has been a long-time associate of Bandi Sanjay and had managed Sanjay's election campaigns in the past. 'In recent years, Praveen Rao has served as Sanjay's personal assistant and the BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, coordinating constituency tours and supervising the execution of various programmes,' it said. It said Praveen Rao had taken part in the agitations of Sanjay during the BRS regime against forcible implementation of GO 317 (on employees' transfers), leakage of Class 10 examination paper, communal violence at Bhainsa and other such incidents. 'He was even named as a co-accused in several public agitation-related cases alongside Sanjay,' the party said. Premender Reddy also said the SIT authorities had informed him, too, that his phone was also tapped during the BRS regime. 'I shall hand over all the evidence and other details of my mobile phone to the Jubilee Hills police on Monday,' he said, adding that if the police did not take any action even after gathering all the details, the state government would be held responsible.

Patil writes to CM on mining scams, BJP questions timing

Bengaluru/Raichur: Law minister HK Patil has written a detailed letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah expressing deep concern over the govt's failure to act on thousands of illegal mining cases that allegedly led to a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh crore between 2007 and 2011. In a seven-page letter dated June 18, Patil criticised the "administrative apathy" in handling these cases and called for stern action against the culprits and recovery of lost public wealth. He reminded Siddaramaiah of the 320-km foot march to Ballari in 2010 against illegal mining when the Congress was in opposition. Patil, who headed the cabinet sub-committee on illegal mining during Siddaramaiah's previous term (2013–18), noted in the letter that only 7.6% of more than 12,000 registered illegal mining cases have been investigated so far. "In just 2 per cent of these seven per cent, which means in only 0.2 per cent of the total number of cases, verdicts have come and cases have seen a conclusion," he further added. In Raichur, Patil on Saturday said, "I have brought it to the notice of the CM about what has to be done. The letter is written in the interest of the state and its people. The chief minister has seen the letter and has taken the matter seriously." He also warned that documents related to these illegalities should not be destroyed and called for vigilance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Suggesting fresh measures, he proposed appointing a recovery commissioner under the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1946, creation of a new SIT, and a special court for speedy trial. BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya questioned the timing. "I am happy that law minister wrote a seven-page letter to CM, reminding him of the commitment he had made to recover the iron ore scam money... I wonder why Patil took so long to remind his CM on the unrecovered funds. Timing is everything in politics."

AAP MP Meet Hayer slams Panjab University over bid to curb campus protests

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party has strongly condemned Panjab University's decision to demand affidavits from students in a bid to curb protests on the university campus. AAP MP Meet Hayer described the decision as highly undemocratic and authoritarian. Meet Hayer stated that India, as the world's largest democracy, cannot tolerate such a dictatorial decision in a public university. He questioned where students could raise their concerns if they encounter issues within the institution. Across universities, student protests against administrative decisions consistently led to improved education and facilities, ultimately benefiting the student community. He highlighted notable achievements brought about by student protests on campus. For instance, the university library, which previously did not remain open overnight, began operating 24×7 following student demonstrations. Similarly, protests successfully reduced increased tuition fees or prevented fee hikes altogether. Such examples make this decision entirely unacceptable, and the Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns it, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending Local Enterprise Accounting Software [Click Here] Accounting ERP Click Here Undo Meet Hayer pointed out that the university administration increasingly made authoritarian decisions in recent times, which is deeply regrettable. The AAP MP also criticised the central govt, stating that this decision mirrors the dictatorial tendencies of the BJP-led administration. He asserted that the university's actions are clearly influenced by directives from the centre. "The politicisation of educational institutions, he warned, is a highly unfortunate development that poses a serious threat to the education system," he added. MSID:: 121993707 413 |
