Osorio returns to Toronto after suffering lower-body injury training with Canada
HOUSTON – Veteran midfielder Jonathan Osorio has left the Canada camp at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a lower-body injury.
Canada Soccer, in a social media post, said the Toronto FC captain will miss the rest of the tournament. The injury occurred in training the day before Canada's 1-1 draw with Curaçao on Saturday.
'Oso will return to Toronto FC today for further evaluation,' it said in a social media post Sunday.
The TFC captain cannot be replaced on Canada's tournament roster at this point.
With 85 caps, the 33-year-old Osorio was the most experienced member of coach Jesse Marsch's squad. He had yet to play at the tournament.
Osorio was sidelined with a shoulder injury April 30 in a Canadian Championship loss to CF Montreal, returning May 24 off the Toronto bench in an MLS game against Nashville SC.
He was added to Marsch's Canadian Shield Tournament squad, playing 62 minutes in the penalty shootout loss to Ivory Coast.
The 30th-ranked Canadians (1-0-1) wrap up Group B play at the Gold Cup on Tuesday against No. 81 El Salvador (0-1-1) in Houston.

Mexico wins CONCACAF Gold Cup group after 0-0 draw against Costa Rica
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mexico tied Costa Rica 0-0 on Sunday night to win Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and will play Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals. Mexico's Santiago Giménez appeared to score on a bicycle kick in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time but the goal was disallowed by Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar following a video review. Giménez appeared to be offside when Carlos Rodríguez lofted the ball into the penalty area following a free kick. Orlando Galo's headed clearance attempt went in front of the goal to Giménez. Mexico, unbeaten in 10 Gold Cup matches against Costa Rica, finished even with the Ticos at seven points but won the group on goal difference. El Tri, which defeated the Dominican Republic and Suriname in their first two matches, will play Saudi Arabia next weekend while the Costa Ricans will face the United States. Costa Rica will be missing four regular starters. Forward Manfred Ugalde, who has three goals in the tournament, and midfielder Carlos Mora are suspended for yellow-card accumulation. Competition should stiffen for unproven Americans in CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Matt Freese's gaffe that cost the U.S. the lead in a CONCACAF Gold Cup group play finale drew a reaction from coach Mauricio Pochettino that Americans can apply to the rest of their last competitive test before next year's World Cup. 'Move on,' Pochettino said of the goalkeeper's botched clearing attempt before Patrick Agyemang's tiebreaking 75th-minute goal in a 2-1 victory over Haiti on Sunday night. 'Remember, the most important action is the next one,' Pochettino said. 'If you think in the last one like that, you're going to do another mistake. This type of accident happened, and it will happen it the future.' The immediate future for the U.S. after a 3-0 run through Group D is a quarterfinal against Costa Rica or Mexico next weekend. Either way, the opponent will be ranked higher than any of th group opponents. The U.S. ended a four-match losing streak by beating No. 100 Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in its Gold Cup opener, followed by a 1-0 victory over 58th-ranked Saudi Arabia. Haiti is No. 83. 'The confidence level is super high,' said Brenden Aaronson, who assisted on Malik Tillman's goal that opened the scoring in the 10th minute. 'I mean, nine points from three games. We've had two shutouts and another win today against a good Haiti team. I think we're really flying at the moment. Now we have a week to prepare, which we haven't had for any team.' Still, the play has been uneven from what amounts to a B team of mostly young and unproven players and A team backups.
