In what is a new initiative by the major, nine of the world's top-10 women and nine of the world's top-10 men will break off into pairs in the event prior to the US Open singles tournament. ‌ The Spaniard - who is fresh off winning the HSBC Championships on Sunday - is in red-hot form and has won 17 matches in a row, including his historic French Open triumph over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner earlier this month. ‌ Raducanu, 22, has been a more active player on the WTA Tour this year after a period of significant injury issues and will compete on Tuesday in the Lexus Eastbourne Open in her final preparation for Wimbledon later this month. Given the pair have always maintained a friendship, it hasn't been much of a surprise that they've decided to team up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center which Martinez believes will result in exciting tennis to be produced. Alcaraz revealed that their partnership was his doing as he said he approached Raducanu with the idea to which she accepted. "I'm super excited about it," the five-time major champion said. "I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. I was thinking that I couldn't play better if it wasn't with Emma. "I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request. She took a while to respond. Not that much, not that much! But obviously she had to ask, and she had to think a little bit. But it wasn't a minute! ‌ "I have known Emma for a really long time. I have a really good relationship with her. We are gonna enjoy it for sure. We will try to win. But obviously it's going to be really, really fun." Liam Byrne, 24, died in a fatal crash on the Gitschen mountain in Switzerland, after taking off from 7,874ft (2,400 metres), the BBC reported. In November, Mr Byrne featured in a BBC documentary, The Boy Who Can Fly, about his journey to becoming a champion skydiver. His parents, Mike and Gillian, confirmed to BBC Scotland News that their son had died, and paid tribute to his 'wild energy' and 'contagious laugh'. ‌ The Byrne family said: 'We would like to remember Liam not just for the way he left this world, but for how he lived in it. ‌ 'Liam was fearless, not necessarily because he wasn't afraid but because he refused to let fear hold him back. He chased life in a way that most of us only dream of and he soared. 'Skydiving and base jumping was more than just a thrill for Liam – it was freedom. It was where he felt most alive. Article continues below 'Liam was more than just an adventurer. He was a son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend. He was a source of laughter and strength. 'He inspired all of us and made life better with his bold spirit and kind heart. We will miss Liam's wild energy and contagious laugh. Article continues below The documentary screened on November 8 showed Liam and his father, Mike, as Mr Byrne prepared for a wingsuit jump off Mannlichen mountain in Switzerland. Speaking in the documentary, Mr Byrne, from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, said that 'an office job scares me far more than the fear of dying from a base jump or wingsuit flight'. The Foreign Office was approached for comment by the Press Association.
