My Royal Ascot tips include a hugely promising runner who's been a revelation for his top trainer
YOU might think it's rare for a horse to have run a lot further than six furlongs to land the Wokingham Handicap.
But if you did you'd be wrong.

That will give
MORE THUNDER
(5.00) supporters plenty of hope as he goes for a hat-trick in Saturday afternoon's cavalry charge.
More Thunder has been a revelation this season for William Haggas, landing two sprint handicaps with last-gasp thrusts.
Last term he was in the hands of Sir Michael Stoute when he raced as far as an extended mile and a quarter.
Cape Byron, Bacchus and Baccarat are just three fairly recent Wokingham victors who had tried distances way beyond the distance they were going at Royal Ascot.
Cape Byron ran a couple of times over a mile and a furlong, and was once down the field in a Hunt Cup.
Bacchus went a mile in a nursery at Newmarket in his younger days, while Baccarat once went a mile at Ayr.
More Thunder is untried on very fast ground, but he will be flying home off the strong gallop and may well get up under Tom Marquand and do what My Cloud did in the Wokingham.
So we have made it. It's the final day of Royal Ascot 2025 and all seven sweltering races are once again on ITV.
Most read in Horse Racing
The action kicks off with the Listed Chesham Stakes for juvenile colts and geldings over 7f.
Many with much potential and improvement.
TREANMOR
cost 2,000,000 euros as a son of Frankel and looked very useful on debut at Newmarket when traveling strongly and hacking up by four lengths.
The runner-up has been beaten since, but Treanmor was backed as if defeat was impossible.
He obviously should go well and William Buick rides for Charlie Appleby.
The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes is for older horses over 1m4f.
Kalpana wasn't declared due to the fast ground so this really should be at the mercy of
REBEL'S ROMANCE
(3.05) who loves a hard surface, and banged in the Breeders' Cup Turf on firm at Del Mar in November.
The latter is a globetrotting superstar for Godolphin and can land this again for Buick and Appleby.
He's just bombproof in these events and was a fine third here to Goliath in the King George.
Today's big Group 1 is the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over 6f.
Another wide open sprint this week.
TOPGEAR
(3.40)
has never encountered ground like this and of course he might hate it.
There is also a chance Topgear is better at 7f than 6f.
That all said, on ability the French, Christopher Head-trained raider is right in the mix and his Challenge Stakes victory at Newmarket was a very decent one.
My selection returned with success at Longchamp this season and if able to go the gallop will finish stronger than most. An each-way chance.
Next a Group 3 for three-year-olds in the Jersey Stakes over 7f. Really tricky to sort this lot out!
CALIFORNIA DREAMER
(4.20) might go well for Amo Racing and David Egan.
The Adrian Murray-trained Irish raider was an excellent second to Lake Victoria in the Irish 1000 Guineas when last seen and a drop back to 7f should be beneficial.
She was a fine fifth here in the Albany on fast ground last season so she really should get in the mix and has strong each-way claims.
Another handicap in the Golden Gates for three-year-olds over 1m2f comes next.
And there could be another one for Wathnan here with French raider
BEST SECRET
(5.35).
He's another that it's impossible to know whether he will act on a fast surface, but he's lightly raced and has been impressive in two victories at Saint-Cloud and Longchamp.
James Doyle is on top and a handicap mark of 95 looks very fare. Stall 5 should not be the difference between winning losing.
Royal Ascot 2025 draws to a close with the Queen Alexandra Stakes marathon over an extended 2m5f.
Sober could easily hack up for Willie Mullins but
SAMUI
(6.10) was a fine third in the Copper Horse on Tuesday and he will be well suited by the extra distance.
He can just lob around under Colin Keane and hopefully power clear in the closing stages.
What a week it's been. I hope you have enjoyed all the sport.
Royal Ascot is just always special.
On Saturday, though, amidst the sunshine I'm hoping for thunder, More Thunder!

Ascot round-up: Ethical Diamond sparkles for Willie Mullins on momentous day at Ascot
Mullins and his wife Jackie had taken part in the royal procession before racing and his dual-purpose performer had no trouble in justifying 3-1 favouritism. Fourth last year, he was 2lb higher having also finished fourth in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham - but the result barely looked in doubt and he came home two lengths clear of Mutaawid and Naqeeb. Mullins said: "Last year he just ran too free and things didn't work out for him, but he still ran a cracker to be fourth so I thought if we get things right this year he had a real live chance and it worked out that way. 'We will give him a little break, bring him home; we will look at York next, a race like the Ebor. We'd love to (go to Australia) if we could get him qualified, that was my first thought coming in. 'I think he would handle a trip to Australia, he wears the hood because he's a bit keen, but that'd be no problem. 'There's a big one over hurdles in him too, but for the moment we'll concentrate on Flat racing.' He added: 'These are just fantastic days, Jackie was just saying to me coming in here today 'just enjoy it', and then to have a winner on top that is the cherry on the cake. 'Tuesday was a little disappointing, but we live to fight another day and hopefully Reaching High (unlucky in the Ascot Stakes for the King and Queen) will be back for the same race next year. Ryan had nowhere to go, he was just locked in on the inside and that was that.' Meanwhile, Harry Eustace's fine Royal Ascot continued when Time For Sandals blazed her way to Commonwealth Cup glory. The Newmarket handler struck for the very first time in Group One company with Docklands in the Queen Anne Stakes and wasted little time doubling that tally with a filly who was registering just her second career victory - and first since her debut last year. Sent off at 25-1 in the hands of Richard Kingscote, she cruised to the front on the far side with a furlong to run and showed great resolve to edge out Arizona Blaze by a neck with the supplemented Rayevka half a length further back in third.

Cercene provides Joe Murphy and Gary Carroll with first Group One success in Coronation
One of Irish racing's stalwart partnerships, trainer Joe Murphy and jockey Gary Carroll, tasted Group One success for the first time in their careers when Cercene belied 33/1 odds to land Friday's Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot . Murphy described it as the culmination of half a century of work after Cercene rallied when headed by the French favourite Zarigana inside the final furlong to win by half-a-length. Back in third was Aidan O'Brien's January while stretched further back were blue-blooded runners form some of racing's powerhouse operations. The diminutive Cercene had already belied her relatively meagre €50,000 purchase price by finishing third to Lake Victoria in the Irish Guineas. READ MORE Having held a license since 1977, Murphy's ability to make the most of his relatively small Co Tipperary string was well established. It might even have made Cercene's SP something of an insult. But the pluck to take on such an elite challenge paid off in style. A former dual-champion apprentice, Carroll (35) had previously enjoyed a couple of Royal Ascot wins for Gavin Cromwell. He recently got a boost with the likelihood of more rides for Ger Lyons on the back of Colin Keane's Juddmonte appointment. His abilities got the perfect shop window here as despite a slow start he got Cercene into a good position on the rail and was strong in the finish. His use of the whip, reportedly using it eight times, could yet prove costly in fines, but the satisfaction of a first top-flight victory was obvious. 'I've been riding a long time now and been placed in plenty of Group Ones. This is my first one and if I was ever to ride a Group One winner it was for Joe Murphy,' he said. 'I've been riding for him since I was a 7lb claimer and he's been very good to me so I'm delighted I can repay him.' Cercene, ridden by Gary Carroll, winning the Coronation Stakes on day four at Royal Ascot. Photograph:for Ascot Racecourse The wait was even longer for the trainer who commented: 'This is 50 years of work, of love and care, and all for the owners we have, all our people. It's just a whole group of people together. This is heaven on earth. 'It's a lifetime's ambition to have a Group One winner. She's by Australia – a sire I love – and her half-brother (Perotto) won the Britannia so the pedigree was there: if she was an inch bigger, I wouldn't have her!' Another Irish trainer hitting the board this week was Willie Mullins , who landed the Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap with Ethical Diamond under Ryan Moore. The 3/1 favourite was Mullins' 11th Royal Ascot success. 'We will give him a little break and look at York, that is normally where we go from here. The Ebor would look possible. We would love to go to Melbourne. If we can get him qualified, that would be wonderful. We might see if we can get him Group-placed. I think he would suit the race,' he said. Ireland's tally for the week to date is nine winners with Aidan O'Brien saddling five of them. The best Irish haul ever at the meeting was 12 in 2022 with eight trainers contributing. Friday's other Group One, the Commonwealth Cup, also went to an outsider as the 25/1 Time For Sandals edged out the Irish hope Arizona Blaze. It was a second top-level victory of the week for trainer Harry Eustace who landed the Queen Anne with Docklands. Venetian Sun was described by Karl Burke as the best juvenile filly he's trained after an authoritative Albany Stakes success. 'I think Venetian Sun is a very special filly. The work she has done at home over the last six weeks – I haven't had a two-year-old filly work like that. She has been kicking all the Group horses out of the way,' Burke said.

Billionaire Premier League owner, 55, earns huge win after 12/1 bet on Royal Ascot winner
BILLIONAIRE Prem owner Tony Bloom is coming home from Royal Ascot a few quid richer. The filly was given a poor draw in Stall 1 under Clifford Lee in Friday's opening race. Advertisement READ MORE ON ROYAL ASCOT But Bloom - who is renowned for his knack of beating the bookies - backed her big at odds of 12/1. The two-year-old filly romped home under Lee, netting legendary punter Bloom a windfall after placing a "decent bet". Bloom told Sky Sports: "7-1 looks a good price now, and she was 12-1 this morning as well. "Given the confidence [trainer] Karl [Burke] gave us, we had to have a decent bet. Advertisement Most read in Football "We had the worst draw in stall one and things didn't necessarily go right for her in the race, but she still won easily. "I might be a bit biased but I'd like to think she's shown something special there. Moment Royal Ascot racegoers hurl punches in vicious brawl in front of shocked punters "We'll leave it to the boss [on her next race], but we're looking ahead to next season and to a potential 1000 Guineas, so that would be something really to look forward to." Following Friday's race, victorious trainer Burke added on Venetian Sun: "She's a special filly. Advertisement "I was gutted we got the draw that we had and to be honest, she's won despite that because it's not really the way we like to ride her – loads of daylight. "She's got a great turn of foot and she can get in amongst them and use it. "She'll stay further, I think six or seven, she's got a great chance next year of being a Guineas filly but we'll enjoy today and plan for the future."
