RM Beats His BTS Bandmate J-Hope's Record With A New No. 1

RM Beats His BTS Bandmate J-Hope's Record With A New No. 1

Forbes18-05-2025

RM, the frontman of the globally-adored boy band BTS, finds his way back to a handful of Billboard rankings this week with his new collaboration, "Stop the Rain." The track sees him teaming up with fellow South Korean powerhouse Tablo, but the tune doesn't sound anything like a BTS top 40 radio smash. Instead, the two rappers look to hip-hop's past for sonic inspiration and delve deep into their feelings to deliver a surprisingly candid — and sometimes dark — composition, one that has already proven to be a strong seller in America.
"Stop the Rain" debuts at No. 1 on one of the four tallies on which it arrives this frame. The collaboration between RM and Tablo launches in the top spot on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. It enters in first place on the list of the bestselling rap-only tunes in the U.S., with a little more than 3,500 copies purchased, according to Luminate.
This new tune gives RM his third No. 1 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. He first led the charge alongside Anderson .Paak on "Still Life" in December 2022. Last year, he doubled his total sum when he joined Megan Thee Stallion on "Neva Play."
With a trio of champions now to his credit, RM breaks a tie with J-Hope for the second-most leaders on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart among South Korean musicians. He trails behind only Suga, his BTS bandmate, who has led the ranking both under that name and as Agust D.
"Stop the Rain" earns RM his lucky thirteenth top 10 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. That figure includes a pair of tracks — "Yun" with Erykah Badu and "Nuts" — that missed out on ruling by just one space. Impressively, RM has never appeared lower than No. 7 on this genre-specific list. He settled into that space in June 2024 alongside Domi & JD Beck on the track "?" (Interlude).

Netflix's newest No. 1 movie is an animated action-comedy with a wild premise — and it's 94% on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix subscribers are hooked on the streaming service's latest original release, and it's got a pretty wild premise. The movie in question is "KPop Demon Hunters," a new animated action-comedy musical from Sony Pictures Animation. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the movie revolves around an all-female K-Pop trio who dominate the music scene while secretly protecting humanity from evil demons. It's certainly a left-field pitch compared to the average Netflix movie, and I'll admit to initially writing it off, but make no mistake: "KPop Demon Hunters" is an absolute blast. I'm not the only fan either: within days of its Netflix release on June 20, viewers have sent "KPop Demon Hunters" straight to the top of the streamer's top 10 movies list in the US. It also comes highly recommended, too; at the time of writing. It's sitting at a 94% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. If that's piqued your interest, and now you're considering whether to stream "KPop Demon Hunters" on Netflix, here's a little bit more info about the new Netflix movie, and a quick round-up of what people have said about it already. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The clue's in the title here. Netflix's "KPop Demon Hunters" revolves around a KPop band called "Huntrix." Huntrix is comprised of three superstars — Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) — and the band already has legions of adoring fans. The duo deals with the demands of being popstars while secretly also being the latest generation of demon hunters, ready to use their voices and combat prowess to fight back against the ever-present threat from those evil supernatural forces. Tasked with creating the barrier that holds the demons back, the girls face a new threat in the form of "The Saja Boys," an irresistible rival boyband of demons in disguise. The "KPop Demon Hunters" voice cast also features Ahn Hyo-seop, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung Hun Lee. Whether you're a die-hard KPop stan or not, "KPop Demon Hunters" comes highly recommended. Over on the review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes, it's sitting at a 94% critics score and an equally impressive 93% score on the Popcornmeter, indicating, essentially, that viewers like what they've seen. Need specific opinions? Well, IGN's Toussaint Egan called the movie "a stunning animated action musical to tide you over until "Beyond the Spider-Verse"," adding: "It isn't just a worthy, frequently hilarious follow-up to SPA's Oscar-nominated masterpiece. It's a relentless celebration of both the music that inspired it and the medium of animation itself." Similarly, Collider's Jeff Ewing labelled "KPop Demon Hunters" an "unmissable" watch and "a charming fantasy-action with catchy tunes, leaning into its absurdity for a fine animated tale." Like I mentioned above, I initially put "KPop Demon Hunters" firmly in the "not for me" category. However, having seen it shoot straight to the top of the Netflix charts, I relented and checked it out... and was so glad I did. When I clocked it was a Sony Pictures Animation project, I knew I was in for a good time, after both the "Spider-Verse" flicks and 2021's "The Mitchells vs the Machines," and this is another success for the studio. "KPop Demon Hunters" is unironically a killer combo of dynamic, fluid animation with plenty of personality, a great sense of humor, a simple but engaging story, solid action, and some seriously catchy tunes. Take it from me: this is absolutely worth a watch. Not sold on Netflix's new release and still in need of more streaming recommendations? We can help. A Shaman Saves Her Unlucky First Love In K-Drama ‘Head Over Heels'

Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo star in 'Head Over Heels.' K-drama fans have seen a lot of Choo Young-woo this year and they are about to have another opportunity. The actor, who debuted in 2021, played a doctor who assists in thrilling medical rescues in Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, a prosecutor in Mercy For None and two lookalike characters The Tale of Lady Ok. This week the actor joins another rising star, Cho Yi-hyun, in a new fantasy rom-com Head Over Heals. Although The Tale of Lady Ok was the first of those dramas to air—and earned Choo a Baeksang award for Best New Actor—it wasn't the first of those roles that he filmed. At a recent press conference for Head Over Heels he explained the sequence. 'I filmed them in this order: Trauma Code, Mercy for None, Tale of Lady Ok, and then Head Over Heels,' said Choo. 'Mercy for None and Tale of Lady Ok overlapped in schedule and I didn't really have any breaks between projects. But being able to keep working on new projects is something I'm truly grateful for." Cho studied with a shaman to become comfortable with the rituals. Head Over Heels is a fantasy rom-com about a high school student/shaman, Seong-A, played by Cho. Seong-A tries to save the life of her very first love, the unlucky Gyeon-U, played by Choo. Gyeon-U is resigned to his unlucky life but worries about the ways his bad luck might rub off on others. Is bad luck contagious? Not sure, he decides to keep people at a distance. 'More than worrying about his own suffering, Gyeon-U is deeply afraid of hurting the people around him,' said Choo. 'I think he believes strongly that his misfortune might spread to others.' What Gyeon-U needs is a shaman who can help him figure out where his bad luck is coming from. Seong-A's job is to mediate between the human world and the spirit world, but it's not a job you apply for. She didn't choose to be a shaman. 'They say that becoming a shaman isn't something you can choose just because you want to or reject just because you don't,' said Cho. 'It's said to be a calling by the spirits. If someone refuses it, they may suffer from an unexplained illness or bring misfortune to people around them. Seong-A became a shaman simply because she was chosen, like others before her.' To accurately play the role, Cho studied rituals with a practicing shaman. She also had her saju done, a traditional Korean form of fortune-telling based on the year, month, day, and time of a person's birth. It was a good experience. 'I've had my saju read before,' said Cho. 'Saju is the study of one's fate depending on one's birth date and time. Since my reading came out positive, I want to believe in it.' The characters played by Cho Ji-hyun and Choo Young-woo attend high school together. To save her first love Seong-A will have to communicate with diverse spirits, not all of whom are friendly. The drama's stars insist the story's spirit interactions tend to be 'cute' rather than too scary. The story also introduces a love triangle with Ji-ho, Seong-A's close friend, played by Cha Kang-yoon. Cha, who made his acting debut in 2024, has also been busy lately, appearing in The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, The Art of Negotiation and Resident Playbook. It doesn't require a shaman to predict that these actors have a bright future or that the chemistry between Choo Young-woo and Cho Ji-hyun will be screen-worthy. They acted together before. Cho, who previously appeared in the Hospital Playlist series and the global zombie hit All of Us Are Dead, worked with Choo in the drama School 2021. According to Choo his co-star has only become prettier since the last time they worked together. Their characters meet when Gyeon-U's grandmother takes him to get his fortune read. Unlike his co-star, Choo has never had his fortune told. "If someone could actually predict the future accurately, of course I'd be curious, but I don't want to know,' he said. The tvN drama is based on the 2020-2023 webcomic "Gyeonwoowa Sunnyeo' by An Soo-Min, which can be read via Naver. The story was adapted by Yang Ji-Hun. The drama was directed by Kim Yong-wan, who previously directed If You Wish Upon Me. Head Over Heels streams on Prime Video every Monday and Tuesday, starting June 23.

(Nasdaq: SYTA, SYTAW) ("Siyata" or the "Company"), a global developer and vendor of mission-critical Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) handsets and accessories, today announced that Core Gaming, a rising innovator in AI-driven creative technologies, who it recently signed a definitive merger agreement with, is experiencing continued momentum with its innovative AI COMIC app. In less than one year, combined user numbers of AI COMIC in Japan and South Korea have jumped from 2,500 to over 32,000, a 13x increase, while those countries' share of total global users rose from 4.12% to 14.38%. "AI COMIC's breakout success in Japan and South Korea is a powerful validation of our strategic vision," said Aitan Zacharin, CEO of Core Gaming. "Return on investment in the region has more than tripled, driven by targeted localization efforts such as a language-optimized user interface. Just as important, the virality we are seeing through widely used platforms like TikTok and Facebook underscores how deeply users are engaging with our product." Launched to broad interest, AI COMIC blends next-gen AI capabilities with a uniquely immersive user experience. The app empowers users to transform everyday visuals into vivid anime-style content through features such as AI-generated video, personalized avatars, manga scene recreation, time-lapse aging and realistic face swaps. Zacharin continued, "AI COMIC runs on a robust technological foundation built on our proprietary Compute Pool System, multimodal generative AI models and a scalable cloud orchestration architecture that is redefining content creation and distribution. Importantly, our goal is not just to build apps. We are building a robust, scalable AI infrastructure designed to power creative expression on a global scale. AI COMIC is only the beginning." Technology Platform: A Breakthrough AI Engine While AI COMIC continues to attract headlines and users, the underlying technology is the true differentiator. To support rapid growth and creative demand, Core Gaming built a smart, cloud- based infrastructure that delivers scalable AI performance while keeping costs efficient. This foundation enables the platform to streamline game asset creation—from automated scene and character generation to fast, high-quality animations and ad creatives—helping content teams iterate faster and bring ideas to life with minimal effort. Core Gaming's AI infrastructure is designed around three core pillars: Compute Pool System (CPS) is a dynamic AI task distribution engine that allocates computational resources across workloads in real time. CPS ensures optimal throughput for video generation, avatar rendering and real-time user interactions—without overprovisioning infrastructure. Multimodal Generative Models that process and synthesize visual, text and audio inputs simultaneously, enabling complex creative outputs such as dialogue-driven animation, mood-based styling, and high-resolution content generation tailored to the user's intent. Proprietary BigP Backend and Cloud Orchestration serves as the orchestration layer for model training, inference pipelines and content delivery. Integrated with a globally distributed cloud framework, it scales elastically to meet creative surges whether from new user spikes or major feature rollouts. "AI COMIC is just one example of what our platform can do," Zacharin continued. "Our AI infrastructure is built for scale to transform workflows across a multitude of use cases including gaming, marketing, education and enterprise content. By automating the most time-consuming parts of creation, we empower teams to focus on storytelling and strategy. The momentum we are experiencing in Japan and South Korea is a clear signal that our technology can shape the future of creative expression on a global scale." Zacharin concluded, "We continue to work diligently to finalize the merger with Siyata and remain confident that we will secure regulatory approval in the near future, with closing expected shortly thereafter."
