SalamAir increases Muscat-Salalah flights by 50pc for Khareef

SalamAir, Oman's low-cost airline, has introduced fixed fares for flights between Muscat and Salalah during the Khareef season from June 30th to August 31st, 2025.
The Lite fare is OMR30 ($77.93) for one way and OMR48 for a return trip, offering affordable travel options for Omanis visiting Salalah.
To accommodate increased demand, SalamAir plans to increase capacity on the route by 50 per cent compared to 2024.

Bomb threat diverts plane of hajj pilgrims in Indonesia, second in days

A plane carrying hundreds of hajj pilgrims back to Indonesia from the Middle East was diverted Saturday after a bomb threat, the transport ministry and police said, the second such incident in a week. Saudia Airlines flight SV5688 had flown from the Saudi city of Jeddah to the Omani capital Muscat before travelling on to Indonesia where it was due to land in Surabaya, a city on the main island Java. But air traffic control officers in the Indonesian capital Jakarta received a call about a bomb threat for the flight, prompting its diversion to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan city Saturday morning, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. Regional airport authority head Asri Santosa said in a statement officers were checking the plane after its arrival but the airport on Sumatra island remained operational. All 376 passengers, hajj pilgrims from Java, and 13 crew members were safe at the airport, North Sumatra police spokesman Ferry Walintukan told AFP. He said a bomb squad was deployed to sweep the aircraft. The passengers are due to resume their journey on Sunday, said Asri. On Tuesday a plane carrying 442 hajj pilgrims back from Saudi Arabia to Jakarta was also diverted to Medan after an email bomb threat was sent to authorities.

Oman Hotel Revenue Hits $284m as Visitor Numbers Up 8.6%

Oman's revenue from three to five-star hotels by the end of April 2025, reached OR109,213,000 ($283.7m), according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). This is an increase of 17.3 per cent compared to OR93,094,000 ($242m) during the same period in 2024. The statistics indicate that this growth is attributed to an 8.6 per cent rise in the total number of hotel guests, recording 831,751 guests by the end of April 2025, compared to 766,153 guests in the corresponding period in 2024. Additionally, the occupancy rate increased from 53.4 per cent by the end of April 2024 compared to 61.1 per cent by end of April 2025, marking a 14.4 per cent growth. The number of guests from Oceania surged by 57.8 per cent, totalling 18,124 visitors, followed by Africa with a 57.6 per cent increase, reaching 5,993 guests. European guests rose by 19.9 per cent, totalling 314,535 visitors. Meanwhile, guests from the Americas increased by 19.1 per cent, reaching 28,843 visitors, while GCC nationals saw a 12.6 per cent increase, totalling 53,642 guests. Asian nationalities recorded a 5.4 per cent rise, with 114,426 visitors. Conversely, the statistics revealed a 0.7 per cent decline in Omani guests, totalling 238,895 visitors by the end of April 2025. Sultan Of Oman Ratifies Visa Waiver Agreement With Russia

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman has issued Royal Decree No. 53 of 2025, ratifying the Oman-Russia visa waiver agreement, which was originally signed in Moscow on April 22, 2025 between the Sultanate of Oman and the government of the Russian Federation. The decree confirms Oman's formal approval of the agreement, which will come into effect once both countries complete the required legal and technical procedures. The visa waiver is set to ease travel between the two nations by allowing holders of ordinary passports from Oman and Russia to enter each other's countries without the need for a visa. This development not only simplifies travel procedures but also opens broader horizons for bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as economy, tourism, education, and investment. The agreement underscores the Sultanate of Oman's position as a nation open to the world, committed to building balanced strategic partnerships and fostering meaningful international engagement.
