The government of Maharashtra has approved the new state Housing Policy 2025 that aims to construct 35 lakh homes by 2030 for the economically weaker section (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG) categories, with targeted interventions for various groups. The policy also aims to create a land bank of government-owned plots suitable for residential use and a centralized digital housing information portal. In addition to this, the policy emphasizes home development close to employment hubs, especially in industrial areas. It also proposes to set up a dedicated self-redevelopment cell to guide societies on planning, funding, developer selection, and execution. An initial fund of Rs 2,000 crore will be allocated for this initiative. The government, under this policy, has also proposed using central government land for slum rehabilitation.'The policy will transform urban development and housing in the state, while also drawing massive investments that will support Maharashtra's ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy. This inclusive and sustainable policy will ensure affordable homes not just for the economically weaker sections but across all strata,' said Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde.According to him, the policy addresses the housing needs of senior citizens, working women, students, industrial workers, journalists, the differently abled, and ex-servicemen.The proposed centralized digital housing information portal will be developed using artificial intelligence (AI) to map demand and supply, geo-tag homes, monitor fund allocation, maintain a district-wise land bank, and integrate with systems like Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA), MahaBhulekh, and PM Gati Shakti. The proposed land bank of government-owned plots suitable for residential use will be developed statewide by 2026 in coordination with departments such as Revenue, Forests, Water Resources, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).As part of the policy's emphasis on home development close to employment hubs, of the 20% reserved land in MIDC zones, 10–30% will be earmarked exclusively for housing. Inclusive housing is mandated not only for large municipal corporations with populations above 10 lakh but also for all metropolitan region development authorities. To revive stalled SRA projects, cluster redevelopment will be promoted under the policy and capable new developers will be selected through fresh bidding to ensure timely execution and eliminate irregularities, Shinde added.'The government of Maharashtra is taking decisive steps to strengthen urban housing, accelerate redevelopment, and ensure affordable homes for all. A key pillar of this initiative is cluster redevelopment, particularly in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, and Thane, where aging buildings, fragmented land ownership, and inadequate infrastructure have made conventional redevelopment challenging,' Shinde had told ET in January. All redevelopment projects will require tripartite agreements between the society, developer, and the government authority. It has made escrow accounts for advance rent and bank guarantees mandatory to protect the interest of residents. Affordable and social housing projects will receive support through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding. And institutes like IIT, IIM, UDRI, and WRI will be appointed as knowledge partners. As per NITI Aayog's G-20 Urban Infrastructure Working Group (G-Hub) recommendations, Maharashtra needs to commit about Rs 20,000 crore as viability gap funding to boost investment in affordable and inclusive housing, Shinde said. The policy promotes green building practices, environmentally friendly infrastructure, and emphasizes climate-resilient construction methods. Under the Global Housing Technology Challenge, innovative construction methods will be adopted to resist heat, floods, and earthquakes. The policy proposes using central government land for slum rehabilitation and joint efforts between the central government and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority will be undertaken, and central funds will be sought for the same. The policy incorporates IT-based systems for transparency, real-time monitoring, and accountability in SRA projects, enabling better beneficiary identification, project tracking, and fund management.

BMC extends tender deadline second time in a month to clear Deonar dumpsite
For the second time this month, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has extended the deadline of its ambitious Rs 2,368 crore tender which was floated for appointing a contractor to remove solid waste that are currently lying untreated at the Deonar dumpsite through the scientific method of bio-remediation within three years. The Deonar dumpsite is one of the sites that have been selected by the state government for constructing housing tenements for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP)–a venture steered by the Adani group and Maharashtra government's Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). The tender was floated on May 14, and the initial deadline was set up at June 3, which was later revised to June 23. Meanwhile, the new deadline stands at July 1. A total of 21 bidders have shown interest in the project. However, till date BMC officials said that no formal bid was submitted by any of the 21 interested parties that had evinced interest in the project. Civic officials said that the primary reason behind the extension is mainly due to the queries that are being submitted by bidders. 'Just because 21 firms have shown interest doesn't mean that all of them will submit their bids and unless we get an adequate number of bidders to submit their bids the deadline will be extended because we want to have competitive pricing,' the official added. At present, the Deonar dumpsite houses 1.85 crore metric tonnes (MT) of legacy waste which are stacked on piles forming large mounds rising upto a height of 40 metres. In its tender document, the BMC has maintained that a total 271-acre portion of the larger 311-acre dumpsite will be cleared. 'The queries raised by officials were mainly related to logistical challenges. A large number of them shared their concern about how such a large pile of legacy waste could be cleared within a three-year period especially because in Mumbai monsoon is there for four months. So, the contractor will lose 12-months within the total 36-month contract since this process can't be executed during the rainy season. So technically, the appointed contractor will get a 24-month window to complete the work,' a civic official told the Indian Express. The officials said that all the contractors who have submitted queries are Indian firms associated with solid waste management (SWM). Some of these firms are based out of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The BMC's move of floating a tender to clear the dumpsite also came seven months after the state government in October last year earmarked 124-acre of the Deonar dumpsite for constructing housing tenements for the DRP which is being executed by a special purpose vehicle–Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited (NMDPL)–where the Adani Properties Private Limited (APPL) holds 80% of the stake, while the remaining 20% is with SRA.

Prahlad Joshi slams Tejashwi Yadav for his remarks against PM Modi
Patna: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi on Monday criticised Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him "baseless" and "irresponsible." Joshi was speaking to the media after inaugurating a steel grain silo in Pasraha, Gogri block of Khagaria district. The facility, with a storage capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes, aims to strengthen food security infrastructure in the region. The inauguration event was also attended by Bihar Minister Lesy Singh and local MP Rajesh Kumar. Responding to Tejashwi Yadav's recent jibe in which he had labelled PM Modi as a 'liar', 'pickpocket', and 'big artist', Joshi said: 'How can someone who has lying embedded in his DNA accuse the Prime Minister of lying? It is the Modi government that has actually delivered on the promises made to the poor.' He further asserted that poverty in India has significantly reduced under PM Modi's leadership, citing World Bank data. 'From the Nehru era to Rahul Gandhi, Congress only gave slogans like 'Garibi Hatao'. But under PM Modi, the percentage of people living below the poverty line has dropped from 25 per cent to 5 per cent,' he said. Tejashwi Yadav had also criticised the Prime Minister's recent rally in Siwan, alleging misuse of public funds. 'PM Modi has conducted more than 200 rallies in Bihar since 2014, each costing around Rs 100 crore. It's all coming from taxpayers' money,' Tejashwi claimed in his earlier remarks. 'We do not want a pickpocket Prime Minister. The Prime Minister gives speeches written on a teleprompter. He has no real understanding of Bihar's ground situation,' Yadav earlier said on June 20. Joshi rejected this allegation, emphasising that public outreach is part of democratic accountability and that such claims were politically motivated.

Zerodha's Kamath brothers invest Rs 250 crore in InCred
BENGALURU: Zerodha co-founders Nikhil and Nithin Kamath have invested Rs 250 crore to acquire a minority stake in InCred Holdings Limited, the holding company of InCred Financial Services Ltd (IFSL). This comes ahead of InCred's proposed IPO later this year. IFSL is a tech-enabled NBFC focused on consumer, education, and SME lending. Since its founding in 2016, the company has used data science, risk analytics, and digital-first operations to serve customers across India. "India's credit ecosystem is changing fast—more formal, more digital, and more accessible,' said Nikhil Kamath, investor and entrepreneur. 'InCred Group seems to get that. They've built a strong team, a technology-first approach, and a clear view of where the market is headed. Backing them is a bet on that broader shift—and the belief that responsible lending can scale without losing sight of fundamentals," he added. Founded by Bhupinder Singh, InCred Group has built a diversified lending platform serving retail and MSME borrowers across the country. Its differentiated edge lies in deep data science, proprietary risk analytics, and digital-first operations, positioning it at the forefront of India's next-gen NBFC space.
