Conor McGregor's first words since 'throwing punches' in Ibiza nightclub
The former dual-weight UFC champion has broken his silence after footage emerged appearing to show the Irishman throwing punches in an Ibiza nightclub
Conor McGregor has broken his silence after footage emerged appearing to show the former dual-weight UFC champion throwing punches inside an Ibiza nightclub.
The incident is alleged to have taken place at the Pacha nightclub on Tuesday morning. According to footage shared by The Sun, McGregor can be seen appearing to peer down to address an unidentified man on the dancefloor. Moments later, he appears to throw two punches, connecting with the second.
The individual falls to the floor moments after he seems to be struck by the second of two punches. Just moments later, various individuals standing nearby to McGregor appear to get in between him and other revellers. Witnesses have since come forward and recalled what they saw. 'Clearly something's been said to annoy him and he's reacted very badly. The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away," one individual told The Sun.
'There [didn't appear to be any] consequences for Conor, but the guy he punched was taken away, and I didn't see him again," the individual continued, while another said: Someone came up to them and when Conor hit him, about five people fell to the floor as the guy stumbled back.
"It was a bit like bowling pins, but the guy was really shaken by the hits. About a minute later, the bouncers came and got him on the back and took him out of the club, because he had annoyed Conor. It was right before close anyway. There was no messing around; they just removed him. Conor left through the garden a bit later; he didn't look very happy that they got into a fight."
McGregor, 36, has now said his first words since the alleged incident. The Irishman uploaded several posts to his social media accounts. On Wednesday evening, in a post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - he posted: 'You won't speak bad about my country and its people and that's ever. Vote McGregor.'
A few hours later, the 'Notorious' posted several photographs of himself, including one with a group of men to his Instagram story, alongside a snap of himself underneath a photograph of Al Pacino in the 1983 film Scarface. Earlier in the week, McGregor was seen on the party island with TV personality Katie Price. The Irishman could be seen wearing a hat and sunglasses in a photo taken with Price and her friend Ryan Mira.
McGregor has not fought since losing to long-time rival Dustin Poirier back in 2021. He was scheduled to make his UFC comeback last year against former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. However, the 'Notorious' withdrew from the contest after picking up an injury in training.

Andy Carroll and Lou Teasdale 'disappointed' after police called over row
Footballer, Andy Carroll, and his girlfriend, Lou Teasdale, admitted that the police were called after the couple had a 'heated discussion', which they say was 'blown out of proportion' Andy Carroll and his hair stylist girlfriend, Lou Teasdale, have admitted they were spoken to by police following a row between the couple on the Greek island of Mykonos. The pair, who have been dating since last year following the footballer's split with the mum of his three kids, Billi Mucklow, revealed they'd had a "heated discussion" while on the party island, but that things had been "blown out of proportion". Andy, 36, was reportedly questioned about a bust-up he'd had with Lou, 42, at a packed beachside restaurant and then at their hotel. One worker at the Nikolus Tavern said of the first argument: 'We recognised him as the footballer Andy Carroll immediately. He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' The Sun reports that police arrived and took the former West Ham ace, who was "very calm" to one side for a chat. He was later allowed to return to Lou, who is a well-known celebrity hairstylist. However, hours later police were reportedly called again by staff after reports of damage to the couple's room at a £500-a-night boutique hotel. Officers are said to have escorted Andy to a local station for questioning but no arrests were made. Another source claimed Lou did not stay with her boyfriend that night. They said: "After the restaurant episode, there was another incident at the hotel. This time, the footballer went to the police station. We know the woman stayed somewhere else that night.' Meanwhile, a British holidaymaker who reportedly spotted the pair while out for a stroll accused Andy of being "very drunk" adding that he shouted at Lou: "I'm done with us!" Responding to the reports, Andy and Lou admitted that the police were called following their "heated discussion", however they insisted things had been "blown out of proportion", issuing a joint statement, which read: "Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested, and no one was charged with anything. "We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together, and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.'

Keir Starmer says Kneecap Glastonbury performance is not ‘appropriate'
Bandmate Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, 27, of Belfast was charged under the name Liam O'Hanna after allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a London show last year. The band – who have publicly spoken out against Israel's military campaign in Gaza – recently called the terrorism charge a 'distraction'. In a previous statement, Kneecap said: 'Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah.' Asked by The Sun if he thought Kneecap should perform at Glastonbury, Starmer said: 'No I don't, and I think we need to come down really clearly on this. 'This is about the threats that shouldn't be made. I won't say too much because there's a court case on, but I don't think that's appropriate.' The band are due to perform at the music festival next Saturday (28 June). The Independent has contacted a representative of Glastonbury for comment. Responding to the prime minister's comments on Saturday evening (21 June), Kneecap wrote on social media: 'You know what's 'not appropriate' Keir?! Arming a f***ing genocide. F*** The Sun and solidarity with Palestine Action.' Earlier this week, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said she is preparing to proscribe the direct action group, making it a criminal offence to belong to or support Palestine Action after the group's vandalism of two planes at an RAF base. Israel has strongly denied allegations of genocide. On Saturday (21 June), Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch, who previously called for the group to be banned from the festival, said that the BBC should not broadcast Kneecap's Glastonbury performance. In a post on X, accompanied by an article from the Times that claimed the BBC had not banned the group, Badenoch said: 'The BBC should not be showing Kneecap propaganda. One Kneecap band member is currently on bail, charged under the Terrorism Act. 'As a publicly funded platform, the BBC should not be rewarding extremism.' Kneecap Glastonbury slot 'not appropriate', says Starmer A BBC spokesperson told The Guardian: 'As the broadcast partner, the BBC will be bringing audiences extensive music coverage from Glastonbury, with artists booked by the festival organisers. 'Whilst the BBC doesn't ban artists, our plans will ensure that our programming will meet our editorial guidelines. Decisions about our output will be made in the lead-up to the festival.' Last year the band won a discrimination case against the UK government after Badendoch tried to block a £14,250 funding award when she was a minister in the previous government. On Wednesday (18 June), Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates Naoise O Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh at Westminster magistrates court in 'Free Mo Chara' T-shirts. He has been released on unconditional bail until his next hearing on 20 August. Following the hearing, the rapper said: 'For anybody going to Glastonbury, you can see us there at 4pm on the Saturday. 'If you can't be there we'll be on the BBC, if anybody watches the BBC. We'll be at Wembley in September. But most importantly: free, free Palestine.' Kneecap have been active since 2017. The band – which is composed of Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and J J Ó Dochartaigh – rap mostly in Irish. They released their first single 'CEARTA' (Irish for 'rights') in 2017, followed by their debut album the following year.

Coronation Street star died on benefits as 'virtual recluse' after acting career
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Len Fairclough actor from Coronation Street, Peter Adamson, passed away at 72 in his Bury home back in 2002, living as a "virtual recluse" after his acting career ended in the '80s. He had famously played Len for 1,730 episodes on Corrie, from 1961 until 1983, marking the end of his acting endeavours when he faced accusations of indecently assaulting two eight year old girls while working as a swimming instructor at Haslingden Baths. Though cleared of charges at Burnley Crown Court, his subsequent actions caused controversy with ITV authorities. Adamson sold his story to The Sun during a period of intoxication and seemed to confess in a garbled discussion. His interview included: "I am totally guilty of everything the police said. But what I hope you will print - there was no sexual intent." This marked the downturn of Adamson's fortunes, culminating in his dismissal from the television network, his exit from the soap, and an unsuccessful attempt to reinvent himself in Canada before facing bankruptcy in 1991, reports the Express. (Image: ITV) (Image: Getty) Once enjoying a yearly Corrie wage of £10,000—roughly £190,000 today—he eventually fell into a modest life in rented accommodation, resorting to state benefits when acting roles dried up. Adamson passed away whilst on benefits, but this wasn't his first brush with financial strife. The actor was known for his heavy drinking on set and by the late 1960s, he had racked up a hefty debt to Inland Revenue, leading to his suspension from Corrie in 1969 due to his alcoholism. The legal costs from his trial only added to his financial troubles, and when his wife Jean passed away shortly after the trial, Adamson's situation deteriorated further. His final roles included radio acting gigs and a West End performance in Dial M for Murder, as well as a role in Vanburgh's The Relapse in 1988. The actor left behind two sons when he passed away in 2002.
