BSF Officer Felicitated For "Exceptional Courage" During Operation Sindoor

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, on Friday awarded Border Security Force (BSF) Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari with the Commendation Disc for her exceptional courage and operational proficiency during Operation Sindoor in the Jammu frontier.
Commanding a border outpost within eyeball-to-eyeball contact of a Pakistani post along the International Border, the assistant commandant led her troops to silence three forward hostile posts across the zero line (the area closest to enemy territory) by giving a befitting reply.

She gallantly commanded a forward-deployed BSF company under challenging conditions, it said.
Apart from Neha, six women constables held gun positions at a forward border post, with their "josh" rising with every bullet they fired at the enemy positions across the IB in the Samba, R S Pura and Akhnoor sectors.
Neha, a third-generation officer from her family in Uttarakhand, takes pride in being a part of the BSF and commanding a border outpost in the Pargwal forward area of Akhnoor sector in Jammu district during Operation Sindoor.
"I feel proud to be manning a post along the International Border with my troops. It is approximately 150 meters away from the Pakistani post in the Akhnoor–Pargwal area," she told PTI here on Wednesday.
Neha's grandfather served in the Indian Army and her parents are from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), making her a third-generation officer in the family.
"My grandfather served in the Army. My father was in the CRPF. My mother is in the CRPF. I am a third-generation officer in the force," she said.

Training prog for civil defence volunteers kicks off in UT

Home secretary Mandip Brar emphasized the importance of proactive preparedness, saying, "What truly defines a city is not just how it responds to a disaster, but how prepared it is before the disaster strikes." Kataria urged citizens to embrace the spirit of responsibility, resilience, and readiness, encouraging enthusiastic participation and execution of duties when needed. Volunteers took a solemn pledge, echoing the civil defence motto: "Working for the benefit of all." Among the many inspired citizens is Monika Thakur, a resident of Sector 20, who discovered the programme through Instagram. Driven by a sense of duty, she stepped forward to contribute to the safety and security of her city.

DGCA Orders 'Corrective Training' For IndiGo Pilots After Srinagar Turbulence Scare

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) rolled out 'corrective training" measures for the pilots operating the IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar flight (6E 2142), which faced severe turbulence on May 21 before landing safely at Srinagar airport with its nose cone damaged. The Airbus A321, with 220 passengers on board, experienced a sudden drop of 3,875 feet, over a kilometre, in just over a minute after facing severe turbulence during a hailstorm. 'We have probed this incident. Subsequent to that, we have ordered corrective training for the pilots and also issued a revised operation circular for adverse weather operations to enhance flight safety," said a senior DGCA official. The revised circular indicates that, based on the investigation into the incident, the flight should not have proceeded to Srinagar given the poor weather conditions. 'Flight crews are advised to maintain heightened vigilance, with an emphasis on safety taking precedence over schedule adherence. Captains are encouraged to initiate diversions or air-turn-backs, as required by prevailing conditions," the circular read. IndiGo Srinagar Turbulence In the aftermath of the incident, reports suggested that the aviation watchdog grounded two pilots of the airline as part of the ongoing investigation. The DGCA said that the airline officials had requested Northern Control (IAF) for a leftward deviation toward the International Border (towards Pakistani airspace) due to poor weather conditions; however, the request was denied. 'Later, the crew contacted Lahore to enter into their airspace to avoid the weather, but the same was refused too," DGCA said. During this period, the DGCA noted that the aircraft's rate of descent peaked at 8,500 feet per minute, and the crew manually flew the aircraft until it exited the hailstorm. The heightened scrutiny of the IndiGo pilots also comes in the backdrop of the Air India plane crash tragedy in Ahmedabad last week, which claimed hundreds of lives. Pak minority migrants receive citizenship certificates in Jodhpur
Jodhpur: In a true celebration of World Refugee Day, Friday, 1,765 Pakistani minority migrants obtained their citizenship certificates in a two-day camp here Thursday and Friday. The distribution of these certificates was conducted by Directorate of Census Operations (Rajasthan) at SN Medical College auditorium, where immigrants staying in Jodhpur, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Balotara districts were given citizenship certificates. Of these, 1,407 beneficiaries were from Jodhpur, while the remaining 358 beneficiaries belonged to other districts of the division. Hindu Singh Sodha, pesident of Lok Seemant Sangthan, said, this is the second major distribution drive after a similar five-day-long citizenship certificate distribution drive in January this year. "About 2,500 immigrants were given certificates of citizenship in January," said Sodha. Talking to TOI, Bishnu Charan Mallick, director (census operations) said, this was like a dream come true for these immigrants, who come to India with the sole purpose of settling down here for the rest of their lives, and citizenship is the only foundation for the realisation of this dream. Referring to the slow process of granting citizenship, Sodha said that only 2,329 certificates were given between 2016 and 2024. "There should be an institutional mechanism for citizenship, and those who are not yet eligible for citizenship or are awaiting the same despite being eligible should be granted the status of refugees, so that essential facilities could be provided to them," Sodha added.
